  • I am nearly 75-years old. I have been a sports fisherman and outdoorsman all my life. I have become an amateur chef in the last 30-years. Your videos are so enjoyable! I still catch a few salmon, Dungeness crab and dig razor clams. I am retired and live in Astoria on the Oregon coast. I imagine myself taking part in your adventures. It brings me joy!

I've been watching outdoor chef life for a while now, and being a PNW kid I really like how a lot of your videos have been in places i can recognize from either being there or seeing it in passing before. • Hey, I'm from Portugal... to harvest the "percebes" you can't pull on them, you have to scrape the rock with something sharp so you don't break the little black arm part that is full of sea water and delicies juices. When you are harvesting them in the video you can see the juices dripping out. The way you cooked them was perfect, just simply boiling water and a good amount a sea salt (ideally the same concentration of salt you would have on sea water) Love the videos!

  • You can say now that you lived on the Coast of Alaska and foraged for the plentiful food the Ocean has to offer. And I must say that the ling Cod you first caught would have provided you and your partner a nice meal the first night in the cabin. You would have had two perfect size filets that would have been excellent. but the nice red Ling Cod was actually a BEAST and will give you food for a few days. What a pleasure it is to be in a cabin so far removed from everywhere else and then a natural hot spring to soak in and rest the sore muscles from hiking afterwards is perhaps the biggest reason to go there, I mean the entire package is fantastic but the Natural hot springs with its own building is a bonus and a half. And is almost a mirror of Japanese food, just on the opposite side of the pond from Japan, and perhaps a little further North than the main Island. That kind of life is what I lived for as a young man and have had a number of experiences similar to this only for my part the fishing and foraging wasn't nearly as good as what you had. What a perfect location and perfect cabin to be able to access. How did you get to be able to use it? I'm sure not everyone can access that cabin and use it. I'd have to say that you struck a lucky streak and got access to a cabin hardly anyone can use! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I am particularly grateful because I can no long travel because of my health issues, to being able to live vicariously through other doing it is the best I can manage so I am indeed grateful. I would rather visit that cabin, eat fresh caught fish and sleep in that single room cabin on the Pacific Ocean than stay in a five-star hotel because as nice as man can make things, Mother Nature's retreats are su much more valuable to me than anything manmade. Man cannot even come close to the beauty that this Earth has to offer.

  • Taku: An Alaskan from 1967 for 38 years. What more can I say how you dealt with coastal Alaska weather in late August (RAIN) with a smile and adventure. Your fish filleting/butchering skills are incomparable. Your beach/surf side food foraging, food prep, cooking and presentations are astounding. The lures of AK are the blue fox Vibrax and Pixie; but you landed an arms lengths ling barely above legal size for non residents. in AK: Sea planes are "float planes". Woods are "forests". BIG Brown bears are coastal (interior browns are grizzles, in cold country long hibernating seasons) that feed lots on salmon with short hibernating season. Black bears can be coastal and interior but mix much only deadly with either brown/grizzly when they mix. Blacks may eat you. Browns just want to dominate you. Glad you enjoyed your stay at White Sulfur Springs near Sitka, AK. I very much enjoyed your Alaska travels.

  • I just love your videos. You and Jocelyn together are so calming and have a really nice energy. I am so happy for the both of you to be able to live the life you are living because there are very few people in the world like you two and you both deserve everything that you get to experience 💕 I'll always watch and support even if I know zero about fishing and costal foraging lol just because I love y'all's relationship that much.

    • @@JC-wn1sp well based off what I do see I like their relationship.. I'm sure all couples have difficult times. I'm married and we have an almost 4 year old so I know the struggle. My husband is a 1911 guy so if that's what your username is referring to then I see why talking to you is so difficult because he is the same. But it's all in a joking manner. I'm not being serious in the least bit.. none of this social media or KZhead banter stuff is taken into my everyday life. I say what I say and then move on.

You started you're own line of knives. And now you got crispy kelp?! Love the scenery in your vids. One of my favorite vids was when you had strangers come on your channel and you shared food you had just cooked. That was really cool

  • This series is probably your best work, and being in Alaska doesn’t hurt. This was probably your best video ever! At least top 3… You are a true fisherman. You aren’t only a fisherman, you are a true outdoorsman. You are able to live off the land and with a few extra ingredients, be able to cook what looks to me Michelin star entrees in the middle of no where. You should start a business taking paying travelers out and show them how to forage, what to look for and teach them how to cook it, out in the wild. I bet people would pay a lot to get that experience. Excellent video!
