ICONIC Esports Moments: OG's Miraculous Win at TI8

2018 ж. 5 Қыр.

Betrayal cuts deep.
Losing hurts, especially when you lose on the biggest stage your game has to offer, when you lose in front of everyone, when you lose to the underdogs.
But there’s something worse than losing.
There’s nothing more painful than being betrayed.
Seeing someone you considered a friend turn against you, turn against the philosophy you once shared, turn against the band of brothers you put together to win with.
And there’s nothing better than getting revenge.

    • Ashton Stansel what's especially impressive is that Ceb hasn't played too well mechanically. There were a lot of mistakes and missed opportunities. But mistakes were minor and critically important opportunities were not missed. His impact on the games comes almost entirely from positioning and timing. That sort of understanding of the game is incredible. Like his Axe game. The way he TPed on different lanes after deliberately showing up on enemy vision on another side of the map. How he kept out of sight the moment he got blink and basically never showed up on vision after that. And that's including enemy wards. There were a lot of players on TI that had better hero controlling skills, but I don't think there were players with a better awareness of the game than he had.

Whenever OG is asked why they play dota, they always answer the same thing and that's “because they enjoy the game” and not because of the money. I think that's why they're the first team to ever won 2 TI and back to back i might add. They're just a couple of nerdy guys who enjoys a good dota. It is true that when your motivation comes from a positive place, victory becomes a piece of cake. OG, back to back TI champions, WELL DESERVED. 👏

  • This type of craziness is actually inherent to DotA2. I don't enjoy playing it that much anymore yet can't help but acknowledge that it is, hands down, the best esport from a spectator point of view. Icefrog is far and away the greatest designer competitive gaming has ever seen. DotA's inner chaos and unmatched roster/mechanical depth (not difficulty, depth) rewards skill, of course, but also allows for huge underdogs with enough creativity and belief to do insane shit and win tournaments. This, added to the fact that taunting in-game is actually allowed (no other competitive scene lets that slide, except a few fighting games'), that noone takes themselves too seriously despite the skyrocketing prize pools and that we get the bonus of incredible casters (ODPixel was freaking out of control there) just overall has everything else beat. I challenge anyone, coming from other MOBAs or other genres, even knowing nothing about the game, not to feel something special watching a best-of of this International. OG's team here encapsulated all of what can make this game so amazing, n0tail's plays were insanely smart throughout, Ceb was imo the weakest of the bunch but came out with some of the sickest clutch instinctive decision-making we've seen in years, ana proved everyone that he was a TOP TOP tier carry, Jerax was, simply put, the best player in the tournament (only second to Fy) and Topson, most hilarious of all, came into his first LAN ever as a renowned toxic pubstomper and won by doing what he does best, asking for pubstomping heroes and going for weird builds that noone (especially the Chinese scene) expected.

    • I know what u mean man... it is THE best esport to spectate and the best esport in general... but playing it can sometimes be a downer... but genuinely playing good and playing a good invoker, meepo, chen, Templar assassin is something LoL can't replicate at all.... or no other game really... and LoL may be more popular and earn much more money but the pro scene games to spectate are generally boring usually boiling down to farm fest, draft, and 1 teamfight and in general the winners are always korea .. Funny how Korea can't make any significant progress in dota generally.. though I am rooting for and have played with and out performed for the most part March and his team [korean]

Reason why OG fell off from being top team into an average team during DPC period was mostly because Ana took break from Dota. OG replaced him with Reso, but Reso is nowhere near Ana in terms of carrying OG. Only two player can carry well on OG, Miracle and Ana. OG even missed the Super Major because of it while EG was able to compete. Should they be thankful for a wasted opportunity? You can't say that it doesn't matter because they don't even have a chance there back then. In fact, OG ranked 18th out of 18 teams in TI8 but went on to win the tournament. You should know that one of the reasons why OG won is that they now have a Captain that leads way better, faces the problems and never quits on the team to be on a "better" place.
