One “somewhat” controversial update was the Hog Rider target change. Originally, the troop didn’t have a preferred target, unlike Giant or Golem, which made it a bad troop. Later Supercell changed the troop so that the troop would target defenses first. However, the change would be disastrous for the game. The troop was so strong that Town Hall 7s could 3-star Town Hall 9s by just having a bunch of Hog Riders. Heck, it got to the point where the Giant Bomb had to do 1.5 more damage to Hog Riders, simply because almost no Town Hall could survive from the attack. Today the troop is fine and balanced, but surely everyone remembers how meta the Hog Rider was
That would be the buff they received, as when it was added into the game, the hogs were actually trash because they went for any building. The buff made them go for defenses only. But yeah you’re right, that was probably worth a mention, but I had so many specific troop nerf/buffs in mind that I decided to leave them all out haha

The worst part about making the shovel permanent is the dozens of shovels I used prior to the update weren’t updated

It took me years of farming shovels to perfectly align all my saved up decorations (Playing since 2013) and then like 3 weeks after I was finished I had to start all over again (Almost finished now though) that could have been so many gems if I sold all the shovels.
yes it’s really stupid. they should have just made all the obstacles movable instead. it really messed us up for the people who paid to move an obstacle before the update

They said in the patch notes the raid shop had to be changed to preserve the longevity of the game. They literally nerfed our progression.
Still salty about the shovel update too.

@@nathanfirlik2001 I don't disagree it was one of the best updates ever, it's just that I already used all my shovels to move around the objects I wanted to keep prior to the update, and they didn't give objects moved with past shovels the ability to be moved endlessly. So, I basically have to use all the shovels another time if I want to move the objects again lol.

2012 and 2013 were kind of a dark age, so many new rushed accounts (including my own). I was a super casual player so it legit took years for my rushed town hall 9 with level 2 canons and walls to catch up.
8:47 the town hall didn't give you a star? That's not right... The town hall has always given a star. It just didn't give the defender a shield unless you got 30% destruction

The only one here that I am really sad about is the removal of global chat. Almost everything else actually turned out to be better for the game in the long run

Idk if anybody else did this elixir exploit, but when spells and troops used to be super expensive and spent with elixir, we would train a bunch of a troop right before it was gonna be upgraded in the lab, then cancel the troop training and get the extra elixir that you are supposed to pay for free. This worked with spells when they were trained with gold too.

@@antonberglund117 nope.. Back in 2012-2014 I believe or maybe 2013.. Spells were made using gold. It was a huge strain in gold and almost nobody used spells cus they wouldn't have enough gold.. Also back then each spell was like 15k gold. So training a bunch would be like 70k or so.. (could only hold like 3-4 spells (housing space) back then. Only later was it changed to elixir, and later costs reduced, and later freeeee :D

Yes I did & also like when a troop or spell gets a event it elixir cost or dark cost would become 10× lower so before the event finishes used to put all of them in army & remove it before after event ends
remember when the kings ability spawned an actually rage spell and any barbarians even one’s from your army would also go on rage if near him when he does his ability? including the ones he spawns obviously

The removal of upgrading Townhall level without even buying all buildings was the feature I missed the most. One of my no walls account was stucked on TH7 because of this update 😞
Lol it was broken at that time mostly war match ups were unfair , sadly I had a th11 at that with only troops maxed out & no buildings that's called a war base ,not rush base
It was to avoid monocanon villages. It was completely broken in clan wars
I tried to do one of those and then the update hit when it was th 7. Kept building all defenses but leaving them level 1 and now I have an account with pretty much maxed army and level 1 defenses, which is pretty cool.

Regarding the TH11 update, there are two other important parts of it you didn't talk about. One was that in addition to the loot shortage created by people leaving the game, the devs removed 'dead' bases from the pool of available bases much more quickly. This, IMO, was the stupidest thing they have ever done. When they added them back in an update later they claimed 'dead' bases were being removed by accident, but that seems unlikely to me. The other huge problem is this update came out right before Christmas / New Years, and the devs dropped this update, took their vacations, and then went radio silent for around two months before they even released any kind of statement or anything. They dropped the worst update in the games history and then just left the game to fester for months with no response.
There should be an update that builders could stack together and make building time less. - this update can stack builders to make the time faster like from 10 days to 5 days but will pay half the orginal building upgrade and could stack 3 times
Or queues for upgrades, sometimes you can't play for various days and can't do anything about it

9:30 I just finished TH8 when this update came out, I upgraded to TH9 and used gems to hit TH10 right away to stop myself for playing the game. Years after, I came back and thanks to the changes SUPERCELL made I was able to get trough the process of attacking with an underleveled army
i think a good rework for global chat could be like, there was an automatic message "Recruiting Players " and then one user input. the user input could ONLY be number. this way it could be used as intended.
Yeah you could easily say that i am a girl and mfs would line up to join your clan but its become too shitty now I can't even recruit like minded people
that would be more a rework of the recruiting system, but even then, would be better than the current one.
Yeah global chat's problem wasn't on the tech side of things, it's problem was people themselves.
What I am getting from this, is that it would probably be better received to add something in a weaker state and make it stronger, than adding something too strong than having to nerf it in the next update
Buffing will mostly be recieved better from the community rather than nerfs
Ahh yes, global chat, those were the days. I met so many people, and most were pretty nice. I remember meeting each and every clan member I had back in the day, in global chat. RIP Global Chat, 2012 - 2019, you will be missed

Global chat removal will never be forgotten, it killed the entire game, I didn’t play for 4 years after that, I remember making friends and staying in ACTIVE clans for months to sometimes years
It was such a cool way to get a vibecheck of a clan. If the leader was in global and he was really chill, then the clan was probably nice too. Also nowadays most clans have to use reddit or discord to recruit, my former clan was slowly dying because nobody did anything and people slowly quit/left without anyone replacing them, until it got so bad it desolved. I myself just by chilling in global used to recruit a lot of active members without trying much. If you vibed with someone in global they would sometimes just ask to join / request.
Great video Havoc 👍🏼 Did you mention the removal of costs for training troops? That was a great saving. Sometimes I didn’t have enough loot to train an army.

You could do a video about controversial troop buff/nerfs in the game and defece buffs to certain troops, for example the eagle artillery did 1.5× damage to golems, and teslas did i think it was 2× damage to PEKKA's

The resource nerf didn’t nerfed what I was doing since clan raids started and that is selling the items for gems which you can get a book of heroes almost every 4 weeks. About 20 gems from trees per week 25 gems per 8 days (gem box) From 30 to your maximum (because you technically can sell more) from raid medals. 160 gems from clan games plus 50 from the shovel. And 33 gems from the gem mine.
Man I remember I used global chat so much since I started playing in 2016 or 2017 to recruit players for my clan... It'll always be the greatest feature ever.
The annoying part of the raid medals is that people have been complaining for more items in the shop and they took it away with ZERO explanation 😐

I missed the change here that its u have to place every new building per TH, before u can upgrade TH again. No Deff, MiniMax, Engineer bases were gone by this, which some accounts of mine were😢

i remember dealing with the first time walls allowed elixir to upgrade then that was rough for elixir droughtedge and i miss the flags
The main reason for the flag change was to avoid political controversy which might lose players or even get them a reagional(geopolitical) ban. (For example, if Taiwaniese players wanted a flag and didnt get one, they could get some players upset, but if they did China would most definetly slap them with a geo-political ban)

They had flags for almost a decade my guy, they could have just taken them off the market and kept the assets as sort of a rare item. If they didn’t get huge bans across the world before then they wouldn’t now.
The worst update or balance change was when you donate to a lower level TH and they get a lower level donation pretty annoying still

Imo the worst thing is making people (like me) max troops in the builderbase by spending so much time and resources. And then throwing an update which made all the troops trash af.
Ngl I was one of those who quit after the th11 update. I mean it was already hell to farm back then and they made it so much harder without the farm base anymore so it's understandable why so many players quit around that time.

I got back into clash recently and damn, it changed much, i stopped playing around when the builder base came.
I'll forever miss the global chat. Game feels so lonely without it and most clans seem to just be inactive or not quite what I'm looking for.

Honestly, none of these updates offended me except for the removal of Global. It made recruiting so much better, even if many of those recruited left quickly.

The gold/elixir nerf they did is the reason me and my friend stopped playing again. It was the reason we were still playing, it was good.
I believe that the personal break feature got removed today with the new update.
I think the reason they removed national flags is because many people in the community wanted them to add the Ukrainian flag after the war started; however, Supercell probably didn't want to risk upsetting the players/governments that are from the countries that support Russia. In the end, they chose to remove flags all together to avoid controversy.
