  • It’s irritating how people praise this kind of Cinderella but bash the Disney one for being too WeAk…when she was literally a WOMAN in the 1700s who was going through domestic and emotional abuse…

    • For real I watched this version (unfortunately) and they really backed off the abuse angle from the step family. The blonde step sister verbatim says that her mother is being too harsh to Cinderella in the ONLY scene where Cinderella is actually forced to work for her step family. I'm not kidding, there's ONE scene of Cinderella having to wake up and make tea for her step family. This Cinderella has time to stay in her basement and make dresses and is allowed to go to the market by herself and (try to) sell them. The original Disney Cinderella was purposely kept so busy that she COULDN'T do anything for herself and never left her chateau, which drove home her isolation and abuse more

  • Original Cinderella: is suffering from abuse and gets by very hard because she is physically and emotionally isolated from real people, but still has the courage to try and get out and explore the world and in the end it pays off and she even finds somebody to connect with and she is finally free of her childhood abuse 😭😭 Amazon Cinderella : is sassy and rude because she’s such a girlboss and ‘oh, fine, I guess I’ll go to the ball, but god forbid that you think I’m like other girls because, uh , I live in an aesthetic basement and I talk to mice’

    • Getting invited to a ball would be the best thing that could happen to someone then! You get to mingle with the most important people in society, maybe strike up a friendship or business deal. In fact since she wants to be a seamstress, going to a ball would be the best thing for especially wearing a dress she designs. It just shows how dumb they make her in this just for the sake of “throwing off social norms”. How much more interesting would it have been if she gladly went to the ball and we see her catting with people charming them with her intelligence and wit and ends up getting a noble or rich merchant to give her a loan to start her dress shop?

    • It's becoming very cliche these scenarios where for a woman to be strong, she has to act like a "tough guy" like men. Not that movies like that are bad (as long as they're written consistently and not with general exaggerations). The point is that they could develop a film where a really delicate woman with feminine characteristics shows her greatness is a strong and brave girl. That's why I loved Cinderella 2015's live action, because the movie's message is: Courage, kindness is also strength.

  • My favorite part about this movie, that baffles me so much, is their inexplicable decision to _downplay how bad Cinderella's home life is._ Alex already pointed out her absurdly clean, spacious, and brightly-lit basement bedroom, but that's not all. Cinderella is shown serving the stepfamily breakfast, like, once at the very beginning, and that's basically the only chore we see her do. Meanwhile, the stepfamily is shown out in the yard hanging laundry on the clothesline in _three separate scenes!_ Sure doesn't look like Cinderella's been made a servant in her own home to me! She's visibly clean as a whistle the whole time too, despite the narrator's claim that they call her Cinderella because she's always covered in soot from the fireplace. Like, bitch where?? Not to mention how she apparently has plenty of money to buy materials for her dresses, infinite free time to hang out in her room and work on said dresses, and no problem at all going out to the marketplace to try and peddle said dresses! Literally her only problem in life is that she's inexplicably not allowed to be a business owner in this bizarre society that's modern in basically every other way.

    @elsie8757@elsie87572 жыл бұрын
    • Plus during the time period women were actually encouraged to sew dresses and were actually praised for making an earning out of it, basically meaning the one problem she's facing is actually completely fake.

Also how did Cinderella get that fancy fabric that could have been too expensive for her? How did she get away with using that fabric and sewing when her steps "hate" her? Why was the prince wearing a useless head scarf?

    • 1. I dont know how to answer the first thing u said abt the historical accuracy 2. She got that fancy fabric cus they never said her family was in critical financial difficulties, also when she was making her ball gown, she had previously sold her other dress to the prince at the market, and he had paid x3 of the amount she was originally selling it for 3. Her stepfamily dont hate her, and in fact, her stepmother mentioned in the movie that she didnt mistreat her out of spite but because she didnt want Cinderella to go through what the stepmother had to go through when she was young 4. It would actually be different if the prince hadnt worn the headscarf to find Cinderella, cus ig its part of his disguise so people wouldnt recognise him as the prince

    • Right? I mean, the whole movie was basically about women not giving up their dreams over a man. And Cinderella stood by this throughout the whole movie. And yet, the prince's character (who at some point in the movie admitted that he wanted to be a GOOD king, not just "a king" like his dad is) gave up his dream of being a good king to travel the world with someone he doesn't even have an actual "committment" to. Cindy was like, "yeah, let's not label it" XD

  • I love how everyone’s just ranting, so I guess I’m just gonna rant too. First, I didn’t like the part where she was sitting on the king’s statue. Like in Spanish I would say “y que te ganas?” (What was your point by doing that?) like there’s a difference between taking a stance for things you believe in and being rude and disrespectful. Second, the “romantic tension” between the leads was terrible. It felt so cheap, rushed, and unemotional that all I could do was cringe. His lines were so “proper” to always emphasize that she was “smart” and “strong” so that he proves that he’s not objectifying her. But let’s be honest. He just saw her on the statue and his face instantly changed -_- like seriously Furthermore, on her end, she would only say he’s handsome, but it didn’t feel like she actually loved him. (Disney’s live-action Cinderella did the romantic tension a million times better.) Third, I didn’t understand the ending. So he didn’t become king? She became a traveling seamstress for another queen? So what, the prince is just gonna tag along? Yeah, that wasn’t clear. There was just a “romantic confession” she gets hired and BOOM cue dance number. Like wha???? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am confusion. There. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Bye bye 👋

It's fine that she wants to make dresses AND fall in love, why is that such a stigma with girl characters? Yet it's weird how they let Ella not give up her wants but have the prince give up his throne. I hate movies where one has to give something up in order to be with someone. Whether it's a business, their whole life, royalty, etc. it's just a huge gesture to someone you've known for like a day or two lmao.

Where (spoilers) the “prince” was a magical being where all the women would be tested by his sister. The test was whether or not they could see him (he can turn himself invisible although his sister can see him). The test is asking if the women can see him. They all fail because they all lie, except the “Cinderella” of the story. Because she didn’t lie, she got to marry the “prince”.

  • I thought of a type of Cinderella movie: Cinderella vs Zombies. You have to admit it’s an interesting idea for a movie and would be cool to see Cinderella, the Prince, and her stepfamily having to fight off a zombie apocalypse accidentally caused by the fairy godmother’s magic. The fairy godmother attempts to bring back Cinderella’s parents to life for just one day which is their daughter’s wedding and then everything goes down hill from there. You have birds and mice holding up crosshair targets for the survivors to kill the zombies, people shoving dynamite into pumpkins and launching them as explosives, and so on.

Putting up with that doesn't make her weak--if anything it makes her stronger. (Blaming her for being weak and submissive is literally shaming an abuse victim for struggling to get help). Plus, Cinderella just wanted to go to a ball, escape her wicked family and have fun for once. Like she didn't even realize she danced with the prince until the next day so it's not like she just wanted to be royalty and was seeking him out. smh I don't know why people keep making Cinderella movies if they're just gonna mock the original source material. • Am I the only one who really appreciated the original Cinderella qualities? Sure princesses like Miranda and Moana had their independence and that fit their storyline… but that doesn’t make them better princesses than Snow White and Cinderella. They were feminine, gentle and good-natured. It’s not to put women in a box that you have to be dainty to be womanly, but being manly doesn’t make you womanly either. All I’m saying is… Cinderella was just as much of a woman as Miranda. They took their situations like champs and both showed the strength of women from different perspectives. I really admire the original Disney princesses. This version of Cinderella is terrible at depicting that no-nonsense business woman trope. Tianna was THAT princess and she didn’t have to be obnoxious to be her own boss. She fell in love, she accomplished her dreams that she worked her whole life for, she was happy.

So they have literally no right to say "ArE yOu On YoUr PeRiOd?". Also the only reason tablecloths were invented was to cover table legs, because men in the Victorian era were said to get aroused because of table legs. Tablecloths were put so that they wouldn't get a boner during dinner. That should tell them not to say "are you in your period" to a woman because atleast women don't get boners for a fucking table.

    • I completely agree!! This movie was an absolute mess. I also hate how they tries to make Cinderella "Sarcastic and witty" to make her a "StRonG FeMale" but she just comes off as fricking vain and annoying. The comedy feels so forced and try-hard.

    • This film felt like they tried to do an Ella Enchanted style remake... but failed miserably. Ella Enchanted had the modern twists, some contemporary songs, costumes weren't historically accurate, twists on the OG Cinderella story, forward thinking views etc. but they did in a way that was cohesive all the way through. The costumes and sets all looked like they were from the same world and time, the story changes all made a lot of sense as well. But this was just a mess! Also want to say having recently rewatched Ever After it still holds up really well considering how old it is! Such a lovely movie!

  • As literally every human has said: Ever After did Feminist Cinderella first and better. Just slapping a "#GirlBoss" over a trendy celeb of the moment does not a feminist lead make. Danielle was a successful feminist Cinderella because they gave her a passion and goal that wasn't just "succeed at something that aint a man." She was self-taught. She had a political opinion. She had a hobby. She thought outside the box and defied social expectations based on her creativity and resourcefulness, and not just by being your standard nonspecific ceiling-smasher.

    • @Erwin Lii Still very good. Brandy's Cinderella chose to escape on her own and was caught by the prince leaving. Even that demonstrates an agency most versions don't. I also lile the scene where she says a girl shouldn't be treated like a princess but like a person. And I get that its okay for girls to like girly things and stuff, but it seems counter intuitive to the GuurlBozz message that Cindy wants to make a career out of shinies and fluffies and pink tulle, but I guess the writers thought they were maling up for ny having the sister sibling take the throne after all (the ending they stole from Coming to America 2).

    • I agree for the most part. Danielle was an amazing character. But Ever After fell a little flat for me because Danielle was so amazing she didn’t need the Prince at all. She saved herself at every moment. I’m not saying I wanted the Prince to have to save her or for her to be a damsel in distress who needed rescuing, I just wished their relationship was a little more equal. The prince clearly loved her and found her fascinating but she didn’t need him at all. In fact, she was basically his special guide the whole time, the epitome of a wise character who leads the prince to better himself, but who does not change or grow herself. I just wish that we could have seen some kind of change in her that would explain how she grew closer to him and came to feel he was important to her enough that she wanted to marry him, and I don’t feel the movie gave us that. On the other hand, it has been awhile since I saw the movie so maybe I’m misremembering it. But I have seen it multiple times and each time felt a little disappointed that we couldn’t see why she bonded with him and needed the prince in her life. Edit: I do agree that Ever After is the best adaptation of this story and Danielle is the best Cinderella.
