Caught in an Avalanche in Kyrgyzstan (Everyone Survived) || ViralHog
Occurred on July 8, 2022 / Jukku Pass, Tian Shan Mountains, Kyrgyzstan
We were 9 Brits and 1 American on a guided tour of the Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan. We’d just reached the highest point in the trek and I separated from the group to take pictures on top of a hill/cliff edge. While I was taking pictures I heard the sound of deep ice cracking behind me. This is where the video starts. I’d been there for a few minutes already so I knew there was a spot for shelter right next to me. I was on a cliff edge, so I could only run away from the shelter (hence why I don’t move). Yes I left it to the last second to move, and yes I know it would have been safer moving to the shelter straight away. I’m very aware that I took a big risk. I felt in control, but regardless, when the snow started coming over and it got dark/harder to breath, I was bricking it and thought I might die.
Behind the rock it was like being inside a blizzard. Once it was over the adrenaline rush hit me hard. I was only covered in light powder, without a scratch. I felt giddy. I knew the rest of the group was further away from the avalanche so should be okay. When I re-joined them I could see they were all safe, although one had cut her knee quite badly (she rode one of the horses to the nearest medical facility). Another had fallen off a horse and sustained some light bruising.
The whole group was laughing and crying, happy to be alive (including the girl who cut her knee). It was only later we realized just how lucky we’d been. If we had walked 5 minutes further on our trek, we would all be dead. If you look carefully in the video, you can see the faint grey trail winding through the grass. That was the path. We traversed it afterwards, walking among massive ice boulders and rocks that had been thrown much further than we could have run, even if we acted immediately. To make it worse, the path runs alongside a low ridge, hiding the mountain from view, so we would have only heard the roar before lights out.

"Oh well at least it's far away, it won't get this far, let's watch."
Yeah, because they were going to be able to outrun it's reach within 20 seconds. Might as well appreciate the last few moments before it gets there with some cover.(this is what they did) You aren't outrunning an avalanche on foot.
i think he chose to record it because there was really no escape, better to document everything in case you don't make it out

For the people wondering why he didn’t run, the avalanche is faster than him, even if he ran the avalanche would catch up. Taking cover is the best option, which is what he did.

This is one of the most incredible videos I’ve ever seen. By far the most incredible avalanche videos I’ve ever seen.
Have you seen the clip from the Chinese warehouse explosions some years ago, this one guy was livestreaming from what he thought was a safe distance down an alley after the initial explosions, while it was burning. Then the 2nd wave of explosions starts, and at first it's like "oh, that's not good, I should probably get more distance." Then it explodes with like 20x more force, like a massive bomb going off, and by the time the person recording even realized they were in serious danger, it was too late. Probably the last thing going through their head for maybe the 3 seconds they had was "oh- I'm going to die." Then you see the Shockwave literally tear apart brick walls and send everything flying as it moves down the alley toward the camera....and the footage ends. It's hard to believe its even real. Under normal circumstances the camera or phone would have been too destroyed to even recover anything. But it's a rare case of someone standing within the lethal range of a massive explosion and recording it in a way that ensured its documentation. If you look up compilations of the camera footage from the event, it's usually sprinkled in as a short clip, a lot of footage is from nearby apartment buildings, but you'll know you're looking at it if you are seeing the fire down a long alley at ground level. Like I said, at first it just looks like a shot of someone filming a fire from a perfectly safe distance, but it's crazy how drastically that changes.
"Cameraman never dies" is a theory, this guy decided to make it a fact.
