Budget Audiophile here. Tecne is awesome but these are just ok. Penrose/Mobious meh too. Get a hyperx cloud 2, not alpha for value.
Audiophiles like cheap headphones too. Lot of $5 to $50 budget finds especially with eq. More $$ does not always equate to more sound quality.

Great video! You might want to look at the LCD-XC if you want an amazing closed back experience. I have the 2020 LCD-X and I love them but Audeze recently upgraded the line and they improved them. So if you get them now they are even better.

Having just purchased the Hyper X Cloud Orbit S during the hyper X sale, these reviews have been extremely relevant for me. I was just looking at this headset the other day.
for those interested in open backed planar cans on a budget; Hifiman Sundara's + Meze 99 Series 1.2m Standard Cable with Mic and Remote. Best headphones in thier class that can be powered easily but will only get better if you add an amp/dac. Seriously the best sound for the money. I think they sound better than the GX as well.
Worth every penny and pair with a schitt stack!

I would definitely spend $900 on a console or TV or even monitor. But a headset MAYBE a little to far if you know what I mean. But HUGE thanks for showing us what a $900 headset is like 🤗🙏🏿😘

They use the same driver as the LCD-X/MX4. The LCD-GX have their following for guys who don't even game. They are known as one of the few Audeze headset that don't need an EQ. I have had mine for over a year now, and I like them better than my old LCD-X.
that is very intresting take, I'm not audiophile at all and I do have those for almost 3.5 years now, for gaming, this beast is a MUST EQ, everything above 1khz is really down.
Unless they cook and clean for me no headset is worth $900!!!

Audio grade headphones that big music, movie, game audio etc. companies use. 900$ won't really put a den't on their wallets and if that price means a better experience for millions if not more then it's probably more than worth it for them. For the average consumer though it's really hard to justify this purchase unless it's sounds *like god is speaking trough your ears.*

the Meze Empyreans are woth the $3000 they are so balanced and so wide you can point to the music
Once you go Planar it is hard to go back to anything else. If you want great sound and don't want to spend $900 you can't beat a pair of Sundara's at $350. They are better than my DT1990's add in a 5DB shelf filter at 80hz and oh man it is perfect for gaming! Great imaging and stage without being to bright and super clean punchy Bass.

I have headphones: sennheiser hd 600s, mic: beyerdinamic fox, amp/dac combo: iFi audio NEO iDSD. For music and gaming. Totally cost me 1480 dollars. Yeah it's expensive but I'm very happy with it. Everything it's sounds amazing.
I am running my headphones through my speaker aux port and using a wireless usb mic. I want to have a way to power the headphones better - but have multiple aux inputs running to my Logitech speaker through my PC. What is the best way to have multiple aux inputs running to either speakers or a pair of headphones? I looked at an aux switch - but they seemed very cheap. I can't seem to find an amp/dac that has multiple aux inputs - Any suggestions Techne or other viewers?

the mezes were made to run with phones and plugging them into an amp wouldn't give you too much of a benefit the lcd-gx does not require a lot of power but an amp/dac combo is still recommended to get the most out of planar headphones, something like a fulla 4 from schiit is more than enough
@@Hungarian_ it's more than just power with an amp. Especially with an amp/dac combo, it's about how it processes the audio signal and will always sound better (depending on the amp)

Are amps worth buying on a gaming laptop? That’s also why I can’t decide which headset I don’t really have a budget. I just bought a top of the line x17 Alienware. Penrose has that long dongle for wireless on the back and I usually play with the laptop in my lap laid back in a recliner. But I like the idea of steel series with a game dak. But I’m hoping for just the absolute best sound but has to make sense for the dollar.

about to buy these. Coming from a Razer Kracken v3 (which I actually hate) I'm hoping to be blown away.
Let's say I wanted to get these.. and from what I'm hearing these work on the series X no problem if you plug them into your controller... Question is could I plug in one of those smaller amps from the video into the Xbox (USB) and get even better audio?.. Or is a sound already that much more better you could use it but you don't need it???

Yes you can as the amp drives the headset but only uses the console to power it. With an amp you will have more power going into the headset which will improve volume control over a 3.5mm connection into the controller but as the impedance is just 20 ohms and sensitivity is 100db you really do not 'need' an amp for the LCD-GX for gaming which is one of the reasons Audeze class it as a 'gaming headset' as they can be driven with little power such as a console controller. That said, the amp will need to be a DAC too if connected directly to the console i.e. a DAC/Amp - without the digital to analogue conversion an amp alone will be useless

I loooove open back headphones. These seem absolutely amazing, but I couldn't justify spending more than $250 on headphones. I'm sure that these are better than a $250 pair of cans, but the price to performance ratio just isn't for me at $900.
Look into it the Sennheiser hd58x, 560s, 6xx, Beyerdynamic 880. All solid choices.

With the og lcd 2 I like how I can find a good height to pull out to and tighten the screw to make jt never move.

How different does it sound when plugged to a smartphone, versus into a proper dac/amp? Is it day and night difference, very subtle or no noticeable difference?
They sound good either way, but there's a big difference plugging them into a dac/amp where you can mess around with EQ settings.

I decided to save my money last year and bought the top of the line steel series instead of these. The steel series are already broken, and I'm going to buy these anyway. Better than buying a new headset every year in my opinion😑. I hate that it costs this much to get an actual quality product.
People that don’t understand why a headphones can cost $900 plus has never used one for a set amount of time, and I don’t mean that to offend anyone it’s just something that has to be experienced. And you hit it right in the head “Investment” with a big I because that is truly what it is and once you start down that road it doesn’t get any cheaper 😅

i have had the lcd gx for almost a year now and omg these are the endgame of headphones. the only trade off is that it is cabled but the quality of the sound is worth it.

As an owner of the 300 USD HyperX cloud orbit... I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that could beat those headphones is these from Audeze. I've bought several other headsets and I just can't stand the audio quality... It's something that you just can't go back. It's like switching from HDD to SSD. Some things can never be experienced the same way. Someday I might go full 900 USD for those... But for now, I hope I don't try them, I might not be the same guy again once that day passes

A separate headphone and microphone would beat those hyper X resoundingly for sound quality and microphone quality for cheaper than the LCD GX. So unless you are playing on console, that is a much better option and more flexible than any gaming headset

These are audiophile grade headphones, of course they’ll be good for gaming in some capacity
These are specifically designed for gaming and have a sound signature quite different from Audeze's normal headphones. Most reviews I've seen from audiophiles don't particularly like them and think the LCD 2 sound much better and are around the same price as the GX.

I got these with a mayflower ark mk2 amp Dac . Gaming sounds amazing and I can just sit and listen to music for hours hearing things in songs I love that I’ve never heard before .

I would because I am looking for the best of the best. I'd rather pay the price for something like this that will last me forever vs buying 300 dollar headphones that end up getting outdated or they come out with better headphones the following year that I'll end up buying and going through the hassle trying to sell my used ones. In the long run you'll save money which is why I game on pc as well.
You hit the nail on the head. The fact you can still buy brand new LCD-GX headsets from authorised dealers four years after they were rirst introduced says everything. This is not a here today, gone tomorrow product. Quality headsets like these last years when looked after properly.

People It’s not about justifying if they are worth $900. It’s about the experience. Most of us average gamers haven’t and will never be able to experience what real audio $900 quality headphones can give you. But I would love to.. just for the experience. Then I would return them 😭🤣. And I’ll stick with my Audeze Penrose X👍🏼.
