2024 Toyota Land Cruiser review by The Straight Pipes. The Toyota Land Cruiser is putting down 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque from a 2.4L Turbo 4 cylinder Hybrid iForce Max. At $61,950 USD, would you take it over the Mercedes G550, Mercedes G63, Toyota 4Runner, Lexus GX?

G-Wagen on a budget ❌ Regime change on a budget ✅
Not even close. The G-Wagon has center, rear, and front lockers. Not to mention power.
@@krane15 and then dies from an electrical gremlin that costs an arm and a leg to fix
@@HunterLord458 No, not really. They're actually pretty reliable.
@@holdthebeansmercedes are crap in reliability.
@@holdthebeans until the warranty runs out
Basically the Defender if it didn’t break down and the electronics worked consistently
but no air suspension - height adjustment. lol but nothing to break hahah you are right.
The gx is more of a defender
no, not at all that ! like apart from it's square like most good off roaders
The defender has the better drivetrain thou
You reminded me of one of my favorite quotes, from a review of the first-gen NSX: "The NSX is a Ferrari engineered by people who went to college."
I like the subtle dig at throttle house “we did NOT break the new land cruiser” 😂
Ha ya just messing around
If you give them enough time they definitely will break it lmao
Oh man prepare to see these everywhere
Bet it will end up like the FJ. Once you get past the quirky/toy looks it’s just a 4Runner for $10-15k more. The Lexus GX is a far better value for the money. I think the LC sales will underperform in the long run.
@@briancoleman971 with people who can not afford them but are looking for looks
@@briancoleman971the GX would be so worth it if dealerships didn’t tax the hell out of the rich white soccer moms with 15k above msrp and leaving actual enthusiasts in the dust
Gx or this ?
@@iangrant9117 It depends if you want to spend $30K more.
that desert sand color looks amazing with the white roof - love the nostalgia throwback look/feel
It looks like vomit
For car thefts in Toronto (or the GTA) - this is going to be at the TOP of the list. Anyone buying this in Canada better know what they're doing. This vehicle is in huge demand in the middle east and africa.
And if you do buy it, remember to leave your keys by the front door with a plate of cookies
@@brotherazeem Exactly, milk and cookies - Toronto police approved.
isnt the LC 300 and the older land cruiser models sold there?? I think that will still be the huge demand despite this new model.
They prefer LC300 over there. This version is considered the Prado and its not overly desirable
@@sathyanarayanans7449 Regardless of what is being sold there, new or older models - the fact is the criminals can drive off with this vehicle from your home and straight into a container for almost nothing and make a huge profit pushing it on the other side of the world. They can even go lower than whatever is being offered there and still make a huge killing because they barely paid anything for our cars, except shipping and getting runners to steal them. And if its just the old models that are being sold there, then there will be an even BIGGER demand for these western models.
Been waiting for this.
Nice review tho I like you guys reviews. 👍🏾 keep it going
Straight up awesome guys
Nah those circle headlights are easily the best
Nah. They look old and outdated. These look fresh and modern
I can’t decide which I like better. They both look pretty slick.
I ordered the 1958 in black. Yes I lose a few things. But the “sway bar disconnect” gives you 10% more articulation on just the front…. Needed? No. Something to fix and work around if you alter the suspension…. Yes. I don’t need a bigger screen. I would like the cameras but again don’t need them. And once everyone here has a kid spill milk or similar in a ventilated seat…. Well…. You’ll change your mind.
As a 4Runner owner only for 20+ years (current ride is a '15 TRD Pro I bought new), if I were ever in the market for a new vehicle this would probably be #1 on my list. The new 4Runners look good but, I like this better.
As a ‘22 4Runner owner, I’m just going to keep what I have and it will last four times as long.
@@skoolynugenator1802 I'm not getting rid of my '15 anytime soon. Was just making the point that I favor the new Land Cruiser over the new 4Runner. As to whether or not reliability will be worse with the newer 4R or LC -- only time will tell.
Agreed. I have an ‘18 trd pro and would definitely go for the cruiser on a trade in. Fortunately for me I only have 55k on the 4Runner so I’m going to keep her for awhile.
08 FJ and man I want this
@@TheIronMask1954 If you do get this I would (if you could) hold on to that FJ.
Im really liking that 1958 version!! Can’t wait for the review!!!
Great video guys!
Tuned in to hear the guys say Tee-ota" love it!
I can’t stop. I tried
a super base model of these is in my sights. if not the absolute barebones GX.
I expect Costco parking lots to be full of these soon to tackle those technical speed bumps :-)
Dope vehicle reviewed by the best, most informative automotive youtube channel out there!
My FJ Cruiser has a front and side sunshade for both front seats. It would definitely pass the Straight Pipes vibe check. 😎
I would probably get the base model. Love the round headlights and that 90’s style cloth interior.
Thanks Guys . Ronnie here from Toronto 🇨🇦☮️🖖🏼
man, 'Yota has really been knocking it out of the ball park recently - thanks for the solid vid guys. (And agree, a "TRD Pro" with the drive train out of the Tundra would be pretty wicked.)
I always watch you guys.
The 2-tone with the white roof is 🔥
How much does it tow? I believe you forgot to mention the leg support extension for the lower part of the seat. Doesn't it slide out towards your knee to support the bottom of your leg more?
From what I understand the headlights are interchangeable. You can purchase that model and buy the round headlights later if you like. When you are ready for a change switch ‘‘em out 😁
Is that true? I hadn't heard
99% sure…one of the engineers mentioned it when it was 1st unveiled
@@steves8322 that's an easy fix , sweet
So I felt the same way but more so about the taillights I like the boxy lights and I'd love to throw that Lexus light bar on the back of the land cruise call it the GX Cruiser also how come there are no v6 hybrids? I felt like this would have been a great vehicle for it
Great movie guys as always!
I wonder if there will be a way to mod the trunk space and delete the cup holder pillars to make more space. Or at least convert the cup holders to be just larger cubbies for storing things.
demand of these will be massive.. be prepared to pay premium... reliability now comes at a extra cost
that defeats the benefits of reliability.
4 cylinder turbo hybrid moving 3 tons… What reliability?
This isn't the 80's man @@cmflippen
Yeah I would hold my breath on the reliability for a few years. New gens of anything have issues.
@@cmflippen Exactly, I still see people buying newer Toyotas thinking they're going to be reliable like the previous models were. No one realizes these modern day turbocharged motors will not see an easy 300-500k mile run like the last ones.
Lmaoooo the poke at throttle house in thumbnail is hilarious
Beefed up, FJ. I love it!
Liking this video before fully watching it just because of the car lol
I need a comparison video of this and new 4Runner. They are same size….does trd version of 4Runner compare to this offroad
Intensity. I dig it
Do you know what you should start adding in your comments whenever you do the horsepower and torque and the towing numbers you should start adding how much the vehicle actually weighs. I think that would be pretty cool.
They’re gonna sell the ever loving shit out of these
Yep, they will be everywhere eventually once the dealers stop gouging people.
Oh yeah. The 4Runner as well.
@@DeuceDeuceBravoif I could find one for 55k I would but that would be so damn rare
How does this position itself against the 4runner? Just more luxury add ons?
I can’t wait !!! I got back to Toyota to get one of these !!!
Definitely liter with LC videos but I really like the directions Toyota went
Circle headlights for the win, the rectangle lights look kinda goofy. I'm in the market for a new car but I can't wait the year plus it'll take to get one of these, hopefully Toyota can get a handle on their supply and demand issues.
When you say "not the fastest", I really wonder how it compares to the outgoing GX460 V8. Would this be an upgrade in terms of power & efficiency (hopefully with a newly designed engine)...
Just wish it also had the pano roof like Gx or at least a slightly larger moon roof
The Landcruiser brand is built to lay not to be flashy or fast. More refinement seperates the 4runner from the LC250
At least they are working on looks🎉
How much “better” or different is it from the new Lexus Gx and is the price difference worth it?
It is meant to provide what people wanted from defender and g wagon with reliability and comparatively cheaper price tag
Please, tell us at what RPM do we get 465 lb/ft of torque? In Canada I expect the availability and price will be unavailable and too high for more than next year. Always enjoy your reviews.
You guys are in my hometown! Driving on 94!
The styling is great but $70k for an inline 4 cylinder car...
And that's just the start, need the stealer fees, the taxes and doc fees, mark up. It will be a 90k vehicle when done
Idk why you are surprised, this is the flagship model, of course it’s going to be expensive. For the same price as the top end model of the LC you can get a mid-grade Lexus GX550 with the twin turbo V6. If that’s still too pricey that’s why the 4Runner just came out.
Honestly i don't see why it matters how many cylinders there are. Horsepower and torque are more important. This is literally just a more numbers equals must be better argument lol. There's a reason why no one really makes V12s anymore either. A V8 or even a V6 can make just as much or more power and they're significantly more efficient, easier to maintain and are less complicated.
You'll be upset when you hear Koenigsegg gemera, millions dollar car that only have 3 cylinders
Good luck trying to get one of the these anywhere close to MSRP.
When are yall gonna do review on the lexus gx 550
“Early prototype, please be careful it’s composite…”
I think the 250-Series Land Cruiser should get the Trailhunter and hardcore TRD variants depending on how successful these extreme off-road trims are for both the Tacoma and 4Runner.
The White looks Dând Good 🥰 And I’m note even a fan of white cars !
I'm not even in the market for a car like this, it would make no sense but it looks so good that I want to get one lol
You guys were in San Diego!?!?
oh boy, I think I've found my next vehicle!
This is going to be insane........the dealership markups I mean.....
Wish this or the 4 runner or lexus came in a 2 door I think in Europe they have one can't remember which one
I was hoping you guys would compare the topper two trims.
Looks badass
The Pricetag of this small SUV is insane
This is right on
I see RR Cullinan in those squared headlights!
I’m 100% getting the TRD Pro version which will surely come out in a couple of years!! 👍🏼👍🏼 Sorry 4 Runner and Tacoma~
Pretty beautiful 😮
What $ they start at?
“Its just a toyota dont go all out” The designer: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It looks like a land rover defender, but actually good.
Looks better than a Defender. And the best part is it isn't a Land Rover / Range Rover.
Right... well looks are a matter of personal preference. The entire competition range in this class is pretty nice: Land Cruiser, 2025 4Runner, Defender, Bronco, Wrangler, GX, G-wagon... only G-wagon is priced out of this world, but the Defender will bring up the same total after about 3 years....
@@georgetown8986 looks are in the eyes of the beholder, or something like that. I won't say it looks better than the Defender, though I do prefer the Land Cruiser lookswise.
@MaverickPhantom i meant actually good as in its an actually good vehicle, my bad. I like the way the defender looks, and i loved how it drove, but its still a Land Rover so its by default garbage. They just cant make anything reliable lol.
You can literally buy a brand new Land Cruiser and keep it for 3 years or so and it will cost you at most $10k in depreciation (if you keep the miles down and excellent condition). Land Rover / Range Rover will cost you $40k-$50k in depreciation over the same time period. And you have a better looking, more reliable vehicle while owning it. Plus, you don’t look like a maxed out credit card / lease special db while driving it like the Range Rover/G Wagon, etc.
Toyota is killing it with their new SUVs! Gotta give it to them!
I think the design will probably look better when you see it in real life
I really like the new land cruiser looks sick actually
Watched my bois first again.
🙏
Doug popped up 1st 🤷♂️
I don’t off road or know jack about all that cool mode stuff but want this Soooooo badly!!
Some speed and power
I gotta ask is the intro song just a coincidence or are you guys a fan of the podcast Professional Insight?!
Dunno what that is. Just some random stock music
Going for the GX 550 gotta have a V6!!!!
This has more hp than the outgoing GX lol with the V8 326 vs 301 and more torque
Looking forward to exploring Oz. We had, regretfully a Fortuna and sold it so we can get one :)
Better daily drive - LC or GX 460 w that V8❤?
Depends how much you want to spend on gas. Power looks comparable
I don't think it make sense to compare this LC to the 200 series. This is actually a LC Prado which the biggest engine it came in was a 4.0 V6 gas.
The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser cars is A Phenomenal ever!!!! ❤❤❤ Also,Bring The New 7th Generation of Chevy Camaro Back!!! Thanks and greetings from Indonesian!!!!
Estimate 0-60? Did you feel confident for lane passing or was it under powered?
under powered
I don't know if they'll do a TRD Pro version of this, but all these iForce Max hybrids will probably get a plug-in Prime version in a few years, with a power bump...would be a shame not to capitalize on this with more "TRD" or "GR" version awesomeness.
gasp! Land Rover that actually starts...
And like always, the other Canadian automotive KZhead channel made the far, far better video on the Land Cruiser 💀
They get me every time with the thumb nail. Lol.
The circle headlights look way better
Damn this car, making me want to buy it every time I see it
GR edition ?
Not sure how it wasn't mentioned yet, but this is sold as the Landcruiser Prado in Australia, and comes with a 3rd row.
Hybrid, understandable. But why give the option of the rear seats flipping forward and not having a third row? Cup holder and climate vent options also? Ehhh
This thing looks great. I'd buy this over a Defender every single day. Every day.
Ok so now that you've tried both, which is the better fake LR Defender - this or the new Santa Fe?
I've read most of the comments for this video and congratulations, stupidest comment award is yours.👍 (Unless you are trolling in which case, well done!)
@@ytj22 Lol of course it’s a troll. Go look at their Santa Fe review, where they literally refer to it as a budget LR Defender.
@@jc_cop Yes, Santa Fe would be a fake LR Defender. Why would this be?
LC300 says HELLO.
Sad thing that the actual Land Cruiser sales dwindled down during the 200 Series. Now US/Canada gets a Prado and they celebrate it like it's an actual LC. But I guess that not bringing the LC300 to NA made sense considering the 200 never sold that well while the Sequoia sold like crazy. Lexus still sells the LX, but that's just too much lmao
The only thing is I wish this car was in the 40 to 60 range usd and then the 4 runner at 60 to 80 range. Also Lexus with the v6
Dog: “Wake up everyone movie just started 🤷♂️"
I think the Lexus GX which is based on this has an option for a 3rd row
Plus a v6
YES
Toyota could make the 4Runner exclusively as a two-row SUV while giving both the Land Cruiser 250 and the Lexus GX550 Chevy Suburban-esque extended wheelbase variants with a standard 3rd row. While it's gonna cannibalize sales of both the Sequoia and the Lexus LX600 and will do so anyway, it may provide the two (mostly the former) something that they have both lacked compared to the massive SUVs built by Ford, Jeep, and GM.
Good Thumbnail 😂
