I think that's the whole point. As he's portrayed as the villain, perhaps he truly believed that what he was doing was the right thing to do for the people of Rosas. The only thing that made him a villain was how he responded to Asha's questions, which he felt threatened by. And remember, Asha is just a normal citizen of Rosas, so the fact that a 17-year-old girl would question the king was completely unorthodox.

@ironmanthunder100Ай бұрын
Because, not only does he not grant EVERY wish. He doesn’t grant nearly *ALL*wishes, even if there not dangerous for Rosas but he *NEVER* gives them back either, he also shows signs of Narcissism and completely overreacts when his kingdom gets suspicious of him, and when he sees some harmless “amateur”magic he chooses to open the book he swore he would never open because he knew the consequences, Asha acknowledges that some wishes may be dangerous “some might be dangerous but we can stop them”and the king also says “I DECIDE WHAT EVERYONE DESERVES!”A king only decides what’s best for his kingdom, not what they deserve human wise or wish wise. He seems like a good king and yes, maybe for the first part of the movie he’s truly genuine about that, but someone can change that quick believe it or not.

Probably the best song in the movie but I have to admit that I reacted a lot to when Asha saw her grandfather's wish so did Magnifico keep singing about protecting all whishes but she suddenly only focused on one that she cared for personaly, cant stop seeing that Ashas motivations are all egotistical and I fully understood why Magnifico would challange that, I mean she wanted and expected the working with the king perks before even getting the job 🤣

Magnifico didn't really care about the wishes though, apart from how they served to stroke his own ego. They were a symbol of his control over his subjects. And the minute his control was challenged, he couldn't handle it and went off the deep end.

Finally saw the movie yesterday and loved it! Just saying, this song shows the difference between Asha and Magnifico from the beginning and how they look at the wishes. Asha is fascinated, wants to keep the wishes safe and sound and want all of them come true. Magnifico just want to possess them like a collection, because having all wishes means he can contol others. Espeacially how Magnifico plays with them like it´s nothing, but the wishes embrace and surrounds Asha like a hug. This song is really deep.

To me it’s like they were trying to find something to hate about him & use it to make him a villain. But I genuinely think he was just a victim from losing everything when he was a child & then built himself back up when he built his own kingdom & got a wife that he genuinely loved & wanted to protect her & his people. The problem is that everyone in the kingdom was so greedy & selfish that they wanted him to grant everyone’s wishes & they took him for granted. They thought they could use him as their personal sorcerer but he didn’t want to grant everyone their wishes because of that. He’s a king first of all, he doesn’t have to be fair. He didn’t have to be a caring & kind king but he wanted to be loving & caring to his people & wanted to protect their wishes. It’s like when he doesn’t grant someone their wish they suddenly have a personal vendetta against him. That’s part of life. You can’t get everything your way & you can’t get everything your way. For some people he’s probably doing them a favor in keeping their wishes bc they’re not always realistic & sometimes they’re not good wishes to grant

The fact we have an actual villain, a real villain, somebody that started out with good intentions but ended up being consumed by his ambition, insecurities and resentment (due to past trauma). The fact that the good in him can be appreciated in this precise moment and it combines with Asha’s goodness is so refreshing and mesmerizing. This teaches kids that bad people are just people that stop caring for others, and that looks can be so deceiving, that your wish is your own and you need to pursue it yourself, not hope somebody else grants it through “promises” and pretty words… AMAZING movie. Honestly, this movie didn't need a villain, it's so cruel to have a character with so many unresolved things end up punished like this, considering that characters like Elsa left her kingdom behind without stopping to think about how her people and sister would deal with the matter, in addition to refusing to return even after knowing how serious the winter situation was and that at the same time Magnífico does not have a redemption or a better development to become cruel is the result of little interest in character development and wanting to please the absurd demand of a villain that is bad only for the sake of being bad.

Because they're not singing about each other they're singing about their hearts deepest wish

@@Dragonstorm2000it would’ve been cool if he turned out to be her real father because that way Asha would be a literal Disney princess.
Oh, I like the first one better
You can tell the moment Asha snaps where she goes from caring about all wishes to just her father's. Meanwhile King Magnifico saw each one as something to behold and to be protected.
THISSSS
It's not her father's (I think it's a grandfather), her father died when she was a kid. But yeah.
Asha is the villain in this story.
Exactly! She literally pushes past all the wishes and makes a mess just to admire her grandfathers wish. She's incredibly selfish.
You can see it when Asha runs to hold her grandfather's wish and "destroys" the order with the wishes that were forming a circle when the view turn to top view
In the Japanese lyrics, they sing, "I will never leave you behind" "I won't leave your side" I love that the subtle difference in wording shows the difference in the sense of justice between the two people.

@@lewismoreton4856 Also, the king was also distracted by the wish and did not realize the fact that he was singing while leaving Asha's feelings behind. It's sad, but I like this kind of relationship😭
yeah one is selfish, the other (king) loves everyone
There is no way the antagonist of the story can sing such a compelling, heartfelt song without being a twist villain. You can HEAR in his voice, he really means what he says...
@@laynie7720 I think they drove it a little too far in "This is the thanks I get" The problem is I find myself agreeing with every other line that comes out of his mouth
@anoopkashyap401 the irony is that's what a king should do for his people regardless. It's what a king does openly and what the public sees vs. behind closed doors. He knows he does generally good things for his people but deliberately hides what everyone would know is wrong.
@@laynie7720 What exactly does he do that's wrong BEFORE turns evil?
@anoopkashyap401 I think anyone would agree that keeping ones wish hidden from them with no intent to ever grant it and keeping it for yourself is pretty selfish and cruel. That's the point Asha was trying to make; your wish is yours and yours only. If you really want it to come true, make it happen. Magnifico never really had any right (other than his status) to keep everyone's hearts desire hidden from them and all for himself.
I have quite a few gripes with this movie, but I will say that this is the best piece in the soundtrack. The demo piece is even better, since it was originally supposed to be a love song between Asha and Star.
starboy is Asha's deceased grandfather please stop spreading the romance thing, it's weird
@@Alex-mh5mu What are you talking about??? Saba, her 100 year old grandfather, is alive in the movie. @@Dragonstorm2000 yes and there are pics of his face being the shapeshifting star so it's gross to promote it as her lover
How in the course of 30 min after this does he transition to a villian? Just because he doesn't grant every wish? He went from be this kind generous king to to a power hungry manic in one day!

I know. Honestly Asha with her "You should grant everyone's wish" is more like a villain. The moral of the story should change to "you can make your wish true" or "try hard to make your wish true" instead of "you can just sit here and wait and your wish will come true without any work on its own".
@@vikaziza1506anyone who says asha is the villain either hates women or watched the movie with their eyes closed. she *literally* suggests for him to return the wishes he won't grant so that his people can work to make their dreams come true themselves, but he refuses and insists that *he* gets to decide what they deserve. i don't know how you got "sit there and do nothing" from her words.

The fact that Magnifico was singing to all the wishes, he really loved his people and wanted nothing but the best for them and he knew that if he granted every single wish then they would become very greedy, which they already were greedy. But as soon as she seems her grandpa or whoever it is she pushed everyone else aside and goes straight to his forgetting about the rest, she showed him she was too selfish and naive to make the hard choices
☠️
So close. Magnifico only cared about the wishes becasue controlling how they got granted gave him power and adoration. Asha never ask for every wish to be granted. Just for people to have their wished BACK so they can pursue them of their own free will.
How is she selfish? Do 18 - 100 see how many years she's been waiting I'm not hating if u think that but macnifico was sorta rude anyway he kept wishes for years qnd years and never granted them

@@Alex-mh5mu what? U hate asha?
Love this song! Really had me rooting for Magnifico tbh, I wish he had a redemption at the end. I think he had good intentions but went awry with the power and fear of uncertainty.
I know! I would have liked to see more of him, he has a very interesting background and motivations, and as a writer it breaks my mind that they didn't do it! The fact that he didn't have desires for power but because they give him a feeling of fulfillment is very intriguing, it makes me wonder if he even had desires at all and that's why he wanted to have other people's wishes for him, because he no longer had any after he lost almost everything he loved. Also his relationship with Asha, which could have been the means to explore that past or really give it a selfish or more malevolent side to justify the ending.
This is one of the most beautiful songs in any animated movies I have seen

Watching This In The Theaters Back In November Was Such A Beautiful Bond Of A Hero And Villain Singing Together. ❤🥰
This song was originally between Asha and Starboy. (Edit: In the line where they sing) "I will protect you" they (also) sing "I will love you"
That's not true. They sang "And love you as one does I will protect you at all costs". It sounds more like a lullaby than a love song
It was still Asha and Magnifico singing, but Asha was singing to Starboy and Magnifico was singing to Amaya. It would have been nice to see given how the lyrics would make more sense in that context.
@@ozvuchkibilla It actually was. They changed it to just have this scene with Asha and Magnifico singing to the wishes but intended it to sound like a lullaby or love song or whatever suits you when taken out of context. One of the things they envisioned was playing the song at a wedding.
It's so hard to find a song about feeling protected and safe and I am so happy this was made so I could add it to my "safety" list for those moments I don't feel safe or like anyone cares about protecting me ❤
I love this song , i keep singing all the time
Probably the best song in the movie but I have to admit that I reacted a lot to when Asha saw her grandfather's wish so did Magnifico keep singing about protecting all whishes but she suddenly only focused on one that she cared for personaly, cant stop seeing that Ashas motivations are all egotistical and I fully understood why Magnifico would challange that, I mean she wanted and expected the working with the king perks before even getting the job 🤣
Magnifico didn't really care about the wishes though, apart from how they served to stroke his own ego. They were a symbol of his control over his subjects. And the minute his control was challenged, he couldn't handle it and went off the deep end.
??? She was looking at and loving all the wishes she saw for most of the song. Of course when she sees her grandpa's she's gonna run to it. Y'all r so weird and misogynistic honestly

True, apart from the fact that the wish spheres turn a slightly purple tone when they are around her. Although from what I know, supposedly in the extra material of, (If I remember correctly) the novelized version of the film indicates that Magnífico partly keeps them there because he belives he can find a certain feeling of fulfillment in having them (?
@@janusthekitten9692I Feel like if Asha wasn't tempting him and if Magnifico got therapy he would be less overprotective Let me remind you, Magnifico literally lost both his mom and dad, So it's probably the major reason he was so overprotective and acted too quickly, Magnifico was never a villain, he was being used by the people around him

More i watch this, more i understand. "I will protect you" Magnifico is talking to the power of this wishes, the power that he want and he will protect at all cost just for use it for himself; Asha is talking to the people that create those wishes. Same words, different meanings
I genuinely believe king magnifico had good intentions, he did originally and he has a good point, a wish cant be ambiguous, he’s traumatized and it’s protective, this song.
He didn’t know the wishes had power
You don't need to be a genius to know that they retooled a love song into this song. It shows greatly.
Noticed that too. It’s a beautiful song but kinda doesn’t fit their relationship
They want to do the same thing, but one lost the reason why (and themselves) along the way.

I really find it hard for this man to be a villian. and this song is just beautiful.
You're not alone. But then when you look at it, his past hurt and loss he experienced fueled what he did to keep others from experiencing the hurt and loss he experienced. He was doing a bad thing with good intentions. She because of that, he lost himself along the way and forgot why he did what he did in the first place.
Asha is my favorite disney villain
And this is why I tend to be on the villains side. In the end he was relatable.
It was meant to be a love song duet between Asha and Starboy.
I thought I was the only one. I really liked him in the beginning. he just lost sight of the reason he build the kingdom in the first place. a victim of his past.
This song was so great in the movie
Indefinitely :-)
I refuse to believe that a king that saying that he will protect he’s people at all cost. Will be bad. Disney did him so dirty 😔

I absolutely ADORE this movie. Disney killed it. MORE movies like this please!
You are 100% right but many people don't seem to get this movie... It became a box office bomb :( It is still one of the best Disney movies of the last twenty years!
