James Gunn has shown us his Superman in the DCU! David Corenswet has big boots to fill and here is a video essay detailing my thoughts on the the suit, the image, its' tone, and my hopes for James Gunn's 'Superman!'

People may hate this, but what strikes me is his demeanor and what message is being conveyed, he looks weary, tired, and damaged, but he is putting the suit back on because the world is in danger and the world needs him.
Yeah, I was definitely hoping that’s the tone they were going for. Looking forward to seeing more of the vibe of the film as the marketing cycle kicks off over the next year.

Batman and Supermans friendship is very important, and it should be a priority in the DCU.
Yup! The relationship with Ironman and Cap in the MCU was a complicated one, but it was the central relationship in that universe. Superman and Batman should have an uncomplicated best friendship in the DCU and it should serve as the exact same level of importance.

Some people need to chill, it's not a picture from the movie it's a picture taken by the on set photographer of the actor putting the suit on before shooting a scene.

I can tell by the way you talk about Superman you love the humanity side of him and that’s great they always tend to focus on the fights and action but less on the human side and I feel like that’s what James Gunn is gonna revive in Superman, the humanity in him give him the dignity and respect he deserves. The movie should be 50% human and the other 50% Superman stuff a balance of both sides of his life.
Absolutely. His humanity is what makes him special. After the way James Gunn handled the emotions and relationships in the Guardians trilogy, I am very confident he can do special work with Superman. Thank you for watching by the way!

I think anyone who wants to see more Clark Kent in a Superman movie should rest assured there will be more Clark Kent. James Gunn has stated that this Superman movie will be Fathers, and will be in honour of his own father who has passed away. I believe this movie will definitely be a good movie, because it's made with a passion and love for the characters involved.

Have u seen James dc movies? They were all flops. Suicide squad 2 for example doesn’t compare to the first one. This is gonna be cheap, rushed, and no depth.
Snyderverse was not good. With that said, The Suicide Squad (Gunn movie) also not good. The Flash was awful. (One of the best superhero films of all time according to Gunn)
I just want a Superman like Tyler Hoechlin in the movies. He's the perfect modern Superman.

@@callmejacob3234 Reeve was also great! As a performer he’s legendary in that role. Tyler’s version just works so well for me. Cavill I feel for because he definitely wanted to do more with it. But I’m excited for Corenswet too.
@@BCRvideos Henry was held back by Zack Snyder. Henry should've had creative control of his character. The dude screams Superman and it's a shame he never got a fair shot. Imagine a Superman film directed by Steven Spielberg starring Henry Cavill that would be a masterpiece.

If you have a similar POV to me, then I cannot recommend My Adventures With Superman enough! In my opinion, it has the *potential* to be the greatest Superman adaptation outside of the comics we’ve had!

I watched a podcast saying that this first look was weird cause the world was in danger, and Superman looked like he could care less. They were expecting more of a traditional Superman pose and a smile. While yes, a more traditional style for the first look would've been visually interesting, I think it would fit better for a first poster, not a first look. This feels like a window into his life. He's lacing up his boots one at a time, and he's exhausted but determined. He feels like an everyday person getting ready to go to work, which connects to the idea that Superman is just like any other human being

I had to subscribe to your channel, because like you, Suoerman is my favorite character and Richard Donner's 1978 film is my favorite film of all time. That movie is just MAGIC !

I take away that Despite what happens in the world Despite if it’s an end of the world to something mundane like saving a cat Superman will always put on his suit Not becuz he has to but becuz he wants to Also for the dcu I just want Batman and Superman to be friends That’s all I’m asking for not some contrived bs that makes them fight for their first interaction like bvs But for them to may disagree at first but quickly learn to be friends like the DCAU and same goes for Wonder Woman That’s something the dceu lacked They didn’t feel like friends Just people that met a few hrs ago lol

I don’t like the fact the suit is already revealed. It should not be revealed through a post online. The revealing of the suit should’ve been a part of a MAJOR marketing campaign. Superman is the OG of heroes and his campaign should almost be royalty like.

🚨 Let us break this photo down. (Gunn confirmed the picture the suit is in camera and has not gone through any post): I believe the pink sphere in the picture is Solaris. Gunn is inspired by All Star Superman: I believe Solaris was one of the villains in All Star Superman. Solaris has injured Superman and have blocked the yellow sun while fighting Superman; this is wear the damage on suit came from. I see a green light striking Solaris in the picture as well. Superman may be injured and weaken from the first fight. Green Lantern and others are distracting Solaris while Superman recovers. Solaris is overcoming the other heroes and weakened, Clark Kent witnesses they need his help. They need Superman. ⭐️ In this picture, a weakened Superman is putting on his boots for round 2, he beaten and injured but he is preparing suit back up to fight Solaris, who is blocking the sun, all odds are against Clark but he is the beacon of hope; he is Superman. Now in this photo Superman is preparing to give his all to save the other heroes and the world. ⭐️ I recently rewatched All Star Superman. Solaris and Lex plays a big part; and, I believe the other in heroes are replacing the fortress of solitude robots to fight Solaris. ♦️Solaris is a Superman Character. Solaris, the Tyrant Sun, has appeared in other comics: - Superman: DC One Million - Superman: Last stand of Krypton - Superman: Annual #12 - Superman/Batman #80-81 - Superman: Action Comic #782 - Superman: Man of Steel #115 - Superman: All-Star Superman. - I want to add, in the comic or animated movie of “All Star Superman,”Superman needs help from his robots to combat Solaris; Lex get power and is working with Solaris: 1. Well in the image James release you see a green light beam striking top of Solaris. 2. Instead of the robot, this is why you need all the other heroes; they replace his robots and are an integral part of the overall story. (Gunn said this) 3. Lex will probably trick the Engineer in finding the fortress. (Remember, there we report during the time of the Crest reveal, the Engineer was in the snow with Superman. She probably found the fortress of solitude and something to give Lex powers; and Lex some way made a deal with Solaris. 4. Gunn is taking inspiration from the New 52, All Star Superman and Superman All Seasons. 5. 🚨 Gunn should had waited and run the photo through post production before releasing to the public. (I think he released the photo without post because the media may get a bad picture.
People who have no hope are not true superman fans. Hope is the primal thing superman stands for. If you can't hope for something good from superman even during the bleakest moments then you're not a superman fan.
Hope is definitely important for this, but maybe those who don’t have it are the ones who need a great Superman movie the most!
James Gunn is 4x the filmmaker that Snyder is. I have faith he’ll deliver a great movie
Superman holding back his powers even against his most powerful foes is what makes Superman different. Quite frankly with The Authority being in this universe I'm more than sure that is what Gunn has planned.
So I take it you prefer him extremely powerful?
@BCRvideos He can't hold back if he is not extremely powerful IMO. But in the fantastical world of comics we have seen Supes get hurt. I think and hope that James gives us a similar fantastical world in the DCU but definitely do not want a powered down universe. If anything power them up.

I hope that the one sided take on a fictional worlds end. I mean balance in tone. I want Metropolis to be bright, colorful, beautiful and inspiring. Gotham, to be dark, gritty, and gloomy on most days. Let each city almost have its own vibe. Atmosphere, and chemistry. Treat the cities, the characters, the properties, as their own types of people. We should still have dark moments in the brighter pictures. We can have both in these movies. I don’t want this to be like. Tim Burton- Shumaker situation, where we have one affect the others tone and outcome. We can give the appropriate vibe and energy, to the appropriate story and characters. Also, we need a Worlds Finest movie. Not a BvS movie, make it Worlds Finest. That’s a whole other discussion

I think the actor himself looks perfect. Superman should be beefy and this one is. I am also very happy with the large S . I hope the cape is not too long like in Man of Steel. I think the suit looks regal , professional. More like a uniform. I do however prefer Superman showing his actual muscles in a thinner material.

"Is this Clark the embodiment of the working man?" Yeah, I can see that here and I love that take... but that's exactly what we got with Cavill's Clark. Just your hardworking average man with a heart of gold that just happens to have godlike powers. I thought we'd get something drastically different here but I guess, we'll see. 🤷🏽♀️
See I don’t feel like we got much of that in those movies personally. To me the themes of that character were more in finding himself and trying to get others to accept him. Also definitely portrayed him as a god-like figure.

My favorite movie is Spider-Man 2 and while it would be awesome, I don’t need it to be just like those movies per se. But I do want them to give me that same feeling!

I personally agree with that take! It was the most STRAIGHT FORWARD “cheesy” , heartfelt heroic movie ! Nothing over complicated, no multiverse, no need to overthink! Just push play and let the story lead you in the simplest way possible! Especially coming out of such a dark time in our real lives as a planet, and as you mentioned, such a darker time in film, that feeling was PERFECT! Same reason why Barbie had soo much success! The colors the cheesiness etc. I’m a 36 year old 6 foot 6 SUPER DARK SKINNED MAN … I look like a linebacker 😂 and I did ALL the cheesy Barbie stuff, wore a Barbie shirt to the premiere, bought the in theatre merch etc…. Very nice comments. I don't have a lot of faith in James Gunn but you encourage me. I'm an old fan... I watched Superman as a 6-8 yr old in the 1950s. My love of Superman has never really failed. The ultimate Science fiction hero. I love the archytype and mythos of Superman.. He's what we humans should be. His story is both a warning and a ray of hope. (don't end up like the smug Kryptonians/use our powers and gifts wisely.) We have powers no other generation of mankind has ever had.. do we use our powers/tools for good or ill? Can we mature without becoming cynical and/or violent? Can we help one another? I love the Lois and Clark series because Dean Cain's Superman is very much a believable man working, striving, wanting the things we all want - a good job, someone to love, a home, friends, a great deal of the time. He has two jobs and it's rather a challenge of times. He makes mistakes. Misses opportunities, etc. I didn't entirely like Man of Steel, nor, totally dislike it. I thought the Kryptonian scenes were brilliant but the second half of the movie was intentionally too violent and Computer game inspired. I know that may be it was aimed at a generation that plays computer games constantly but the devastation of Metropolis was way over the top The Batman vs Superman movie was just cruel, made Batman totally irrational and didn't show either character in a good light. My favorite Lex Luther is actually John Shea - his Luther was actually horrifying, delusional and cruel.
Man of steel you could feel the flying and his powers. And I think it’s more badass and interesting to see Superman be as strong as the comics make him. I wanna see him push the planet out of orbit on accident
You can definitely feel his powers in that movie. Especially the speed as the camera struggled to keep up with them.

I always loved the original Superman movies where it felt like he loved being Clark Kent just as much if not more than being Superman. I wonder if we are going to see a Superman that is more concerned with his daily life rather than being a symbol of hope. And in doing so learning how to be that symbol after all these years.
Possibly! I’ve seen quite a few theories online about him showing the superheroes that already exist how they can be more kind and peaceful. I’m not sure what approach Gunn will take, but I’m excited to find out!

Incredibly well said my man and yes I agree with everything you said. I can tell from your demeanor that you truly love Superman and everything he stands for. Superman is my favourite superhero too and I am truly excited to see what James Gunn has in store for the character and everything I've heard so far sounds like everything I've always wanted to see in a Superman movie. David Corenswet is honestly perfect casting as Clark and truthfully I like the costume so far and yes I do have criticisms about the lines, collar and I wish the blue was a bit brighter, but nevertheless I am still excited. I agree that the best Superman's are the ones that show his relatable humanity and I adore MAWS version of Superman, STAS Superman, and Tyler Hoechlin version of Superman. Superman is a character that means a lot to me and helped me through tough times. Superman doesn't need to be modernised to fit a cynical public perspective, he's just a kind, earnest farm boy from Smallville and you don't need to fix him. I couldn't be more ecstatic for this new movie in 2025 and though I have some minor concerns I trust James Gunn after giving us excellent CBMs like the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker show

And I actually think putting an earnest and kind Superman in a modern cynical world makes him even more special because he then becomes the change the world needs! I think Superman's costume should look like something made by a farm wife in Kansas. If ANYONE needs to not have a slick, modern, overdetailed costume it's him. Let it be a little goofy. It's okay. The costume of a filmic superhero should reflect the character, not just look cool for its own sake. Batman's rich. He can have high tech costumes made. Wonder Woman's should look like something eternal Amazon's would make. Green Lantern's should look like an alien uniform. Superman's should look humble, like something made by an everyday mom made for a son she's proud of.

Yeah I think that’s what they’re going for. The more I look at it, the more it looks like it may be a Kryptonian soldier uniform. That’s the vibe it gives off. And apparently it’s the same costume designers from the Guardians movies and TSS.
I definitely think My Adventures With Superman was a sort of test pilot to see if people today would gravitate towards this version of Clark. I personally like the show, in specific Clark’s character.. I don’t share your optimism when it comes to Gunn. My biggest fear is that he’ll have Supes making a bunch of juvenile jokes like Star Lord or Peacemaker. I absolutely love the image he released however, but I hate the suit if that makes sense.
I’m personally okay with Superman making jokes. But I also don’t think he’ll go full Starlord or Peacemaker with him. Looking forward to that first trailer to actually get a sense, though. Thanks for watching!

This is coming out of the tail end of the Superhero movie renaissance where people are sick of the usual superhero saves the day stories and want something new, the DC and Superman brand (with maybe the exception of Batman) have been so mismanaged that even people who would have supported it might not give it a chance, there's no hype behind it with Henry Cavill not returning, they're rushing a cinematic universe buildup by shoehorning in other Superheroes in the DC universe when they should be making a standalone Superman story, and James Gunn while a talented director for other films, is just the wrong choice for a Superman movie. That and Hollywood in general, from the actors to the writers to the producers to the critics, is full of people who HATE the morality Superman once stood for. They hate the ideals of Truth because they believe it's subjective, they hate justice because they believe it's a lie that is used to oppress people, and don't get them started on the American Way because America can't be the good guy in big budget Hollywood movies anymore. It might be good. But knowing all that it has going against it, I doubt it will be .
Superman is a shining light to Metropolis we need that in the DCU now to show the difference from Gotham and why Batman and Superman have different impacts to the city. Batman encourages fear to criminals so they don't commit a crime while Superman will confront and stop them and show a better way of life. - Luke

I know people complain about Costners Pa Kent but the absolute ONE redeeming quality I don’t think anyone can argue is his love for his son. When he first shows Clark the ship and all that Clark says to him “Can’t I just keep pretending I’m your son?” And P Kent grabs him fighting back tears and says “You ARE my son”. But idc what anyone says the best Pa Kent is from Smallville. Hands down. Will die on that hill gladly.

He was off to a great start with casting and set locations etc but the suit killed most of if not all of the hype for me. It’s Superman.. the suit has to be on point. That comes first. The story can be great but when you got that ugly ass thing staring you in the face.. nah, that ain’t it, chief

I mean that’s just not true. He has multiple scenes where he’s upset. He has a scene where he visits his mother because he doesn’t even know if he wants to be Superman anymore.
@@BCRvideos It's the context that matters his arrival to planet caused a lot of s**** with people so he was feeling he wasn't doing good. He wasn't crying about putting boots on to get to work which is what that Gunn picture shows.

0:25 - The lines in he suit are fine. You'd have to be a real-life 40-Year-Old-Virgin to complain about them. They looked fine on Spider-Man's suit in the MCU and they make sense because the suit is very technical with lots of gadgets. Honestly, in this age of superhero movies sucking by default, complaining about this sort of thing just demonstrates the unfortunate reality of the spoiled-brat culture of silliness pervading society nowadays. I agree with everything but not about powers. I think superman should be someone who can do anything but he doesn't do it. He doesn't use his full power so that he couldn't accidentally kill or hurt others. Yeah he should feel pain. But his powers should be the same as before. But, I think flash or even batman's power (which is intelligence) could be scaled down a bit. But not superman. He is our ultimate hope. He should be the same as always. He should be the most powerful being with his will power but the most humble and goofy guy in the world. He always puts brakes to his powers fighting with himself. But when it'll be time he will let loose. That time will come after a long time and hopefully not in this movie.
I can totally respect and understand that take. I think that’s probably my most unpopular opinion in this vid. I see the appeal in Superman have a moment like in JLU vs Darkseid where he fully unloads and it’s a massive moment.

I feel like they just hired gun out of desperation and they should have stopped dceu and given it time to breathe before this stuff. They could have found a better leader than Gunn.
I don’t this picking a leader of a studio is ever easy. But as a creative lead, I think Gunn is a fantastic choice. I could be mistaken, but I thought I heard he worked closely with Kevin Fiege throughout his tenure out Marvel. So if anything, he seems like the man for the job imo.

All the hate towards this photo just shows the state of our country and how people are ridiculous… gone are the days where people waited for a film to arrive in theaters and based their opinion off the quality of the film , not all the little dumb details, to me I get Chris Reeves vibes somewhat and if you recall those films were great films and classics today , sad you have fans who act like babies and say “ I won’t watch nothing Gunn is setting up “ , cry me a damn river . That’s childish as hell to base this film off one photo that hardly shows anything as he is sitting down for one , haven’t seen this suit in action and for all we know this could not be the actual suit we are doing to see on film . Yeah it is definitely unfortunate for anyone to not give it a chance. I think it’s okay to comment and critique (constructively) what they show us and when they show us. But I also think it’s important to at least give it a chance and be open to having your mind changed. I for one am obviously full on excited!

Not with that outfit and not with out cavill this film will be WB biggest Flop this superman is the skinnest yet at only 174 pound he nothing hell tom welling and cw tylor are 190 pound the to this Day Christopher Reeves is the biggest superman at 232 pound roth was second at 212 Cavill 3rd at 195 pounds i believe this and the sleeves thickness indicatea muscle suit fitted with the suit to bulk him more suit baggyness in the photo is due to it being air filled not been infected yet so he can put the boots on easier.
