Building a Lego-powered Submarine 2.0 - magnetic couplings

2020 ж. 29 Мау.
23 828 077 Рет қаралды

This RC sub has magnetic couplings to transmit torque through the walls. No need to drill holes = no leaks. At the end I test it in a swimming pool. Enjoy!
Differences to the first sub • Building and Testing a...
-rectangular hull (need flat walls for magnetic couplings)
-snap-and-lock lid (more reliable, less leakage)
-bigger motors, more motors, more propellers
-depth control using propellers (IMO more accurate compared to a syringe ballast tank)
-lead pellets for ballast (easier to adjust, both shape and weight, compared to steel plates)
-captain (thanks everyone for pointing out this obvious missing part :))
The submarine specs:
Displacement: 2.7 kg (6.0 lb)
Test depth: 1.5 m (4.9 ft)
Hull: glass food container (IKEA 365+ 1.8l), plastic lid
Motors: 3x Lego XL-motor (8882-1)
Magnetic couplings: K&J Magnetics R844-N52 neodymium magnet, TapeCase 423-5 UHMW Tape
Propellers: Lego propeller blade (2952), Lego liftarms
Radio control: 27 MHz controller dissembled from a toy submarine (Zantec Mini RC U Boot), L298 H-bridge to drive motors
Power supply: 9V Lego battery box for the motors, 3.7V Li-Po for the RC
Onboard camera: Faironly Firefly Q6
Pressure sensor: Jolly Logic Altimeter One

    • in former Eastern Germany they built stuff that worked and lasted longer than anything you can buy nowadays because of your beautiful "market"

      @sonofhismother@sonofhismother2 жыл бұрын
    • @@sonofhismother The machines differ in fabrication quality. Try any fake legos. Their constructions are a lot more fragile and degrade with time and its not like they are handmade. But it’s not just about the machines. It’s also about plastic quality which is not affected by water or low temperatures. I am sure all german industrial quality is just a market legacy. Because I know exactly where all of the soviet industry came from: all russian production has always been basically some american fabric bought and copied detail by detail. A state run economy can only evolve extensively not intensively. And do you really believe a state could authorize some toys to get that amount of resources to enable that quality?

      @Vlad-sw4zd@Vlad-sw4zd2 жыл бұрын
    • I disagree. Nowadays Lego is no longer making products that are aimed at building your own creations from the parts. Just look at these app controlled things that make it hard to reuse motors and stuff.

      @gustavg@gustavg2 жыл бұрын
    • You are all right. But unless your budding engineer has 100’s of pounds to spend on exactly the right components and a handy swimming pool. Then its not going to teach any new child anything. Its interesting and a good advert for Lego (its already plural Americans) but if the kids cant get their hands on the kit its useless as an educational tool.

  • This is absolutely amazing. I have to build one! in fact I've got all the lego done but I'm having trouble figuring out how you did the wiring.. I've got the bridges and spare Lego wires. I see where the motors are hooked up but I can't see how you've connected power.. any chance you could show a wiring diagram if you've made one or a picture of the wiring spread out? thank you so much for doing this, I applaud your skills!
