"He's my boy, he's with me". Can't imagine how much that made him feel he belonged.
Makes me cry just thinking about it. My adopted father said that about me for 10 years. meant the world to me
I work out every minute of every day. I've Won a lot, but if I had that backing, I'd be laughing.
I imagine it would’ve felt good for me and u to feel that. But that time has passed
Just oozes power!!!!!!!
Obligated, not belong
Mikes story with Cus is one of the best in all of sports.
It's a miracle
100 % the best. Unbelivable
It’s very profound
They don't call him Iron Mike for nothing.....👑🐐🥊
They need to make a Netflix series on this story. It is incredible. Tyson's story is incredible.
“A person dies when they no longer have the will to live.” Powerful words.
I think Jakie will have nothing to live for after that fight...

Cus was the closest thing to a father he ever had.
Is is dad
He was his father
He adopted Mike, they loved each other and their story is beautiful
Cus was the only real thing he ever had !
Cause you know?..
Got chills when Mike said "he summoned me"
Yeah shit man
Get chills everytime
And when Cus says “fear is you friend”
Same here! That's just eerie! I was about to make this same comment but you beat me to it.
Please could you text the last words i couldn't catch them at all and understand, what about they talk about all in all?
Cus + Mike = UNSTOPPABLE
Too much party time ruined Tyson 🤪

Thank you CUS, you unearthed a diamond from the dirt, the greatest boxer in history!! We owe you one, continue Resting Legend
Amen! May Cus be resting in peace, amazing man.
He also coached Ali, arguably the best. What a match that would have been!
Yessir, Mike is the greatest to ever lace up a pair. He is the grandmaster of pugilist science. A warrior of all the ages....

'If he were'nt here, I wouldn't be alive today." ~words of a parent
As strong and ferocious as MIke was, he was like a humble little child in the presence of Cus DAmato, understanding that with age is wisdom, never be so arrogant as to ignore "learning" you will cheat yourself out of a lifetime of experience. With age, you become wiser & begin to comprehend what Cus was trying to explain to him in his younger years, even after all this time has passed, Mike tears up when reminiscing about his father figure.
It’s the best way to be when learning anything.. child like with no preconceived notions or they hinder you!
Something the younger generations have lost. A wise old man once told me “I have forgotten more than you know”. Take that how you want, but to me that shit run deep. Made me realise to respect an older persons view of something. Everything you know now may be a useless load of bollocks by the time your 40 and actually think like an adult. Life experience is priceless.
@@godnnat hmm...makes me realize something too...the master doesn't like the student to talk back so much and be full of too many words or his own opinions and ideas...it's like if the glass is already full then nothing can be poured in...the student must empty his vessel and trust that the master will give him everything he needs to know which he only needs to apply and he has certain success...I was under the instruction of a master (no need to specify what art form) but as I started to progress greatly from putting into practice what he taught me I spoke out a bit too much in front of people and he didn't like it but did not tell me...he organized a difficultly for me after that (probably to challenge ego) and I didn't pass it and I left in anger...still have his teaching but it requires certain outside setup to be put into effective practice...the thing is if the master is not happy with his student for any reason he can sabotage that student to make them leave...it is how it is...people can be vindictive just under normal circumstances but the master can be very cruel if he chooses to be...anyway if you have a good method which has been taken to it's full extent by the master and you do it over and over several hours a day for months and then years you yourself become the master and have the knowledge to teach a student
@@babkeebabkus8177 using water as the analogy. if a master is teaching, his form should be pure with no contaminates.. with you being the clean, empty cup to receive!
@@godnnat yeah sure...perhaps some are more lenient than others but as stated some masters can be cruel...if u are too intelligent or have too much opinion it is actually a downside...one must be humble and quiet and act how the master likes to see u under him which is like a little child...my master had also been a rebel and refused to follow others orders and made his own way after he got the teaching...I revered him but then more people started coming and I thought he was a blabber mouth (didn't tell him or anyone this but maybe he read my mind)...he talked and talked and talked..and then I talked a bit too much and he didn't like it...I gave a different opinion to people than his and I think he took offence and set up something for me after which removed me....u know sometimes it can be people coming in from outside that cause difficulties and misconceptions between master and student...it's complex...we can say "just be as a child and be empty and do what he says"..I could have just stayed away and been ultra private and more diligent with my practice but I just happened to be there with more people showing up asking questions...really addition of people into the mix can fck things up quickly...the bond of master and student must be strong but with too many people around and his focus on too many things then stuff can go sideways...not giving excuses here but many variables involved...if you have the teaching and can do it without being bothered several hours a day you will have success within months and mastery within a few years but lots of tests in that time...lots of ways to fall and be removed from that training environment...I still practice but no where near the 8 hours a day I was doing in the forest on the mountain which is what is required for real breakthru and into mastery...just an hour every morning

“Mike was my motivation to stay alive” - Cus d’ Amato
03:09 Hearing the emotion while Mike struggles through his words 😭😭😭 Cus meant everything to him.
It’s been said that a child needs only one person to believe in and support them to grow up and be ok … here’s proof
Why hasn’t there been a movie out with Cus and Mike… this is the best duo of all time
Mike and cus and even the whole life of Mike's can make one of the greatest true story in movie history
They've
Agree
Mike loved Cus. Mike has changed a lot over the years for the better. Imagine the impact one person can make on your life and change your entire trajectory. Sounds like Cus needed Mike just as much as Mike needed him.
Cus was unbelievable. The impact he had on Mike, one of the absolute grestest, says all that needs to be said. Tyson cant even speak about Cus to this day without breaking down. Cus gave us Iron Mike, theres no Mike Tyson as he is today without Cus. Its profound when you hear Cus say the same about Mike. Hear him say Mike kept him alive. Their relationship was the definition of one of a kind

Let me say the trainer cus was the greatest
Do some research before you post. For example; Cus trained 3 World champions and Stewart trained 41 World champions.
Almost like Rocky
@@troydixon4425huh? What kind of weed are you smoking? I need some of that.
Growing up without a father really messes you up… Hope someone reads this and considers not abandoning their child. Life without structure leads to a belief in nothing and it’s a dark place to live your life…
“I’m Sonny Liston, I’m Jack Dempsey” On the spot he named those boxers, the most ferocious and devastating of their time. A true student of the science
If only Cus had lived to see the championship years.
He woukd not have let Tyson go off the rails like that fake Don King. His winning streek woukd have been longer. And his health better.
Cus actually stated that he attributed his fighters success to the ability to succeed without him looking after them. Mike definitely accomplished that but he was surrounded by the wrong people after Cus had passed.
All I ever wanted when I was growing up was to have someone like Cus to look up to as a role model and a father figure. I just wanted someone who believed in me more than they believed in themselves
I hope you still find it if you are still young enough for it. If older now, may be you can give the younger ones your learned wisdom. You might be pleasantly surprised what you might find out by teaching younger people. I wish you all the best. God bless!
You can get strength from not having someone like that, if u dont give up and search for wisdom... and maybe one day you can be that person for someone else... Thats my thoughts, my experience is similar too yours...
Absolutely well said, i never found that but now im dedicating myself to do that for others.
Oh man. I feel that. To have a strong, kind father figure in your life encouraging you is very important for every son. How many have gone astray or not reached their full potential due to their fathers being either absent or unsupportive or abusive?
@JKD TYSON more than you could know, bruddah! i really appreciate you taking your time to reply to my comment
RIP Cus He created the best fighters in history which clearly make’s him one of the best trainers in history too❤️
Absolutely right. Cus D'Amato is the greatest boxing trainer. His style is a very formidable one.
Agree, but i will say he was more like a teacher and father than a trainer. A mentor

Mike Tyson u are really special in everyway
Note how good Mike's head movement and footwork was when he had Cus/Teddy/Kevin. Once he got rid of those guys he relied on brute force punching power.
Very true bro. Mike's martial arts skills were nearly cut in half once he lost the discipline of the techniques and ways of his original team.
Wow 👌
@@themegaislandman true, because Mike was a shorter heavyweight the pikaboo style was the most appropriate but that requires alot of footwork and head movement to get on the inside of bigger guys and hit and not get hit. once he lost that he became a easier target.
Am not going anywhere until I see him succeed, that's crazy on the old man's part because it shows he also has a fight in him.
All these quotes on discipline effected me to a certain extent. Very inspiring even to the average person, personal success, and just being of good character.

Nah he is the goat of boxing until someone is better than he was in his prime. Nobody has been since.
I love Mike Tyson.
Cus was not a Trainer, he was a teacher. Not just in boxing, but also in Life. I wish i had had a Father like him.
To this day Tyson still gets very emotional when he speaks about Gus. Its heartbreaking to see and hear Mike when he does talk about it. Thats how powerful of a connection or a bond that they had. RIP Gus you were definitely one of the most inspirational trainers of the 20th century hands down.
it's Cus not Gus
When a vicious fighter can't get through a sentence without crying about his trainer. He was his father. Not just his trainer. So many men need this kind of love. A father's love.
Truth...
This shows the importance of a father figure in your life, this warms my heart so much, specially this and Ian Wright when he's talking about his old school teacher.
It’s funny because you named another black dude (I had to look him up). 75% of their peeps grow up without a dad. It’s pathetic.

We all love iron Mike he’s the best there’s ever been ! You’ve already done it Mike you are the champ ! The fights you fought when you were kid dynamite! Unbeatable you were and still are in the history of boxing! No one was more furious than Mike Tyson! You don’t have to prove anything more to me Mike You are man’s best at boxing!
Let em know Rich! I've always said Iron Mike is by far the greatest to ever lace up a pair. No other fighter in history comes close to the Cus D'Amato, Kevin Rooney, trained Tyson! He's a grandmaster of hand-to-hand combat. A force of nature. And also a deep thinker. A man of the people. I can tell just from encountering this now that Cus was not just a boxing coach, he was a philosopher
I'm a grown ass man tearing up at a Mike Tyson video...that is very unexpected but god damn it Cus D'Amato must've been a special kind of man.
"you can do whatever you believe you can do if you really believe in it" the power of believe in oneself is key to conquer your mind and master confidence when you're afraid
I can honestly say I never loved any boxer more than Tyson....A ferocious beast in the ring ,,Giving soul outside the ring ...So blessed to have met him 3 times at the Boxing Hall of Fame, such a genuine humble man....I love M.T
If you control the fear you will be the beast very discipline guy number one coach
I could have done without the music, but that's one beautiful relationship. They needed eachother.
When Tyson passes....he will be at peace. Only then, he has never got over his death. Some people never get over the death of someone so influential in their life.
Wherever Cus will go, Mike will go, wherever Mike will go, Cus will go, these two legends will keep each other alive forever in the history of sports!
Cus promised Mike Tyson if he did what he said he'd make him champion of the world and then he said he would stay alive till it happened. What is often not understood is this was not the goal. He carried Mike to the mountain top and then left him there to learn what it means to be king of the mountain. This broke Mike again but Cus knew Mike now possessed the ability to rebuild himself and Mike has done so. He may still be falable, as we all are, but Mike Tyson holds knowledge and insight most ppl could only dream of. Cus and Mike truly is a combination of two great life stories combining to make something even greater, a lesson for humanity itself. Their story is one for the generations imho
Really stupid post. I am embarrassed for you. Pure Dolt!

And i believe a person dies when they no longer want to live...👌 Cus
That emotion at 3.05 ....raw... what a life story
I couldn't catch the words, could you please explain it?
I was 9 when Mike won the Heavyweight title. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine the guy on the Punch Out game, who had televised fights, trials and tribulations would be someone who I grew to deeply admire and respect. So much so I listen to every interview I can of him, many as of late bringing me to tears. I’ve seen so much oh this man’s life I almost feel selfish wanting to know about his relationship with Cus D’Amato.
So True ^^ please Mary me y be waiting for us in France 😀
Pisses me off that as smart as I am I didn’t see the lesson Coach Joe and Coach Walton were trying to teach me with all that cardio and running they were making me do instead of actually wrestling. They were trying to teach me discipline and my ego and weak mind back than made me miss it. Discipline is the only thing between me and winning it’s always been me vs me. Took me years to figure it out but better late than never bby 💯 thanks coach Joe
100%. Motivation comes anf goes, discipline js always there

Cus amazing … what a story … reality greater than fiction
“How lucky you must have been to run into that guy, no no he said he summoned me” that was deep
Perfect fit for both people at the right times in their lives. Both would probably had left this earth before their time if they did not cross paths when they did. Instead, they did cross paths and they both created something the boxing world never saw, or probably never will.
I always come back to watch this video for some inspiration ❤
A lot of people would have benefited from having Mr. D'Amato in their life. Happy Mr. Tyson found him. His gift just got better over time.
That father Figure is something i whised for my whole life and never had. Someone who knows so much about life and manlyhood. One Day i will become that mentor to someone else i try to learn as much as possible i want to be in pain so i can learn from it.
Cus has done his part is bringing out the potential in Mike. Unfortunately the late 80s and 90s was an era where athletes are easily misguided due to fame and money. You either learn the easy way or the hard way and mike chose the hard way. Glad he has recovered though
Fear held in back, fear got him to the top of the world the baddest man on the planet, and then it pulled him down into the worst depths within himself. But what brought him back to this humblest man on the planet? Idk. Hard to say, wisdom and through the hard realizations that those depths created. Maybe? Or the toad.(same thing hah)
You make a good point about athletes in the 80s and 90s. I’d think if Mike was brought up today he’d wouldn’t have been so misled. Athletes seem a lot more business savvy, and more empowered to take care of themselves mentally and avoid the pitfalls of fame.
@@MrLOLsteveLOL Dumb post, fella.
OMG - this touches my heart.
A parent is rightfully worried that their child might fall when learning to ride a bike, but not more than they know that they will get it even if they did fall. Cus said he wouldn't leave until Mike made it and, although we would've loved to see him around more - Tyson especially, he did not pass on only until Mike had become the roaring blaze he'd been tending to since he was a boy. "I believe that a person dies when they no longer wants to live, but I have a reason with Mike here.....and I WILL stay alive and I WILL watch him become a success." They needed each other and ended up helping a whole lot more people than one another. Such a special bond story they have. RIP Coach
