As someone who suffered with moderate acne every day since the age of 15, skincare isn't a "luxury". It's part of getting to look "normal" and considering how many people think acne is from someone being unhygienic having acne can be a major social disadvantage. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a massage therapist, but I knew that spas may not want to hire a massage therapist who had acne because they might think I appeared dirty and didn't take good care of myself. It's very depressing to have a condition that people assume is an indicator that you're lazy and dirty, even though you probably take better care of your skin than the average clear-skinned person does. Proper skincare gives me the ability to get my skin as close to clear as it's been since I was a teenager, and that has given me so much relief. It's truly an investment in my mental well being.
Were you openly mistreated by people, so you began assuming everyone thought like that? I don't assume people with acne are dirty/unhygienic. We can safely assume many others agree with that statement. You can't allow your "disadvantages" to hold you back. You have to keep trying because not everyone reacts the same, thinks the same or feels the same. Whatever harmful ways people have treated you, I'm really sorry. I wish kindness was easier for people.
Yeah I don't know why you feel that way. Sure kids in high-school can be cruel, but other than that I don't know of a single person who thinks just because you have acne that you are unhygienic. ? But referring to the context of skincare being a "luxury", IT IS a luxury for many people whether they have acne or not. Many people just can't afford skincare. When it's a choice between food/paying bills, etc., or buying a skincare product/routine, obviously they HAVE to skip purchasing skincare products. I understand what you meant, but just because someone has acne doesn't mean they have the means to treat it. So yes, it absolutely is a luxury for many people.
@@cassthompson3386 it's not fair to judge this person's experience, it's their experience not yours. I absolutely had the same experience, it's so common to be mistreated for having acne and to be told you are unhygienic. Acne can be distressing, it's well known in the medical field it's inextricably tied to poor mental health outcomes, depression, self- harm etc. Please rethink your opinions.
I know exactly what you mean! I'm in the medical field, and even in an industry that should know better I've had the same experience. It's a pity that people feel the need to chime in here and poo poo your concerns. You are valid. Your perspective is valid. Your concerns are valid.
@@cassthompson3386 By that logic, in the US having dental work done or going to the doctor would be a luxury for a lot of people. Many, many people just can't afford things that they need. It doesn't mean those things are a luxury. It means that we are perpetuating a system that is broken. When someone says, "I need this" just...believe them. They are the expert on their life.
Selfishly, I love the UK spin on your recommendations. So many YT guides are US based - but hearing someone recommend stuff from Boots (etc) is SO useful to know it's available and affordable. Thank you!
Absolutely, Jack! Isn't it great to actually know where we can find shops over here that sell this stuff? Same goes for recommendations in pounds and pence rather than dollars too.
Yes so true! I mean i’m Not living in the uk either but something Europe based is so good to know !
Go to boots and use their own basics range, they are fackin monster!!! Omg he mentions them, don't use target they scummy, not that boots are much better, supported apartheid in the 90s!
I agree- it's my pet peeve when UK youtubers "Americanize" themselves- baking in cups instead of weight measurements- say drugstore instead of chemist etc. and only recommend US products which can't be sold here.
I kinda wish those were affordable for me too as a Polish person - 1 pound is a fortune for me LOL, the inkey list is actually considered fairly expensive here because of that.
Great information! So many of us can’t afford to spend a lot of money on skincare now so it’s nice to know what products are good AND affordable. Thank you James!💜💜
He is brilliant 🤩 Totally agree with your comment and PS stay safe ❤️x
Budget skincare speaks to my ✨SOUL✨
lmfao me too!
yesss love the boojee stuff but when a great product has a great price, it’s even better!
I am so glad you mention Vaseline. It is a wonderful product that many have tossed aside, not realizing the skin benefits it has. Great video!
Blame the 'clean beauty' movement for that first and foremost.
@@lipstickzombie4981 thank youuu!! They’re absolutely AWFUL!
I love your channel! It's always filled with such useful information. I'm a 56 y/o woman who just started using a very thin layer of Vaseline all over my face after my serum/moisturizer, and I have noticed SUCH a difference in my skin. It is softer, more supple, and just seems to have more "oomph". It may not work on you younger folks, but for me, its a miracle worker!
It definitely works for anyone. It helps the skin products do their job and prevent transepidermal water loss. Hydrated skin looks plump, has a glow, and can even help it look "lifted" .
I hope James won't mind me mentioning this but AzDesertFoxx, have you seen Wayne Goss' channel for make-up tips aimed towards us that aren't kids any more? I don't wear that much makeup myself but it's nice to get the recommendations that are aimed specifically towards our age group (I'm 52 btw) that I can use and won't make me look over-made up or like a clown!
@@jeanproctor3663 yes! I love me some Wayne!! :)
i prefer the Cerave Healing Ointment which is similar
For me, skincare is also a big part of my wellness, my mental health and self care. I suffer from post traumatic stress disorder and dissociative disorder and both exercise as well as sleep is ultra important for me - it’s crucial for my wellbeing. Last few years I’ve amped up my skincare game and it’s made a world of difference in my well-being as well and doctors and nurses in my “team” have noticed and are actually telling me to “keep it up!” It’s amazing!
Hi five to noticing and respecting your needs. Very often society teaches us to ignore ourselves for others.
Exact same. Especially with the sleep. Sleep deprivation will put me down almost immediately, and it shows on my skin too.
@@joannakowalska9247 I used to buy into that. But I'm no good to anyone if I'm barely holding on myself.
For me skin care, washing my hair regularly, showering regularly is part of the routine that helps me a lot with depression: having a routine helps you get out of bed and do things even when I don't feel like it ... it's not just a "cuddle" it's a real routine to keep yourself clean. Obviously the routine is also made up of many other things that involve cleaning the house, running errands regularly ... It sucks to be so depressed that you don't have the strength not to brush your teeth.
@@Anotherprisonsystem this is sooo true! I wish more people understood this! It’s absolutely unintentional! Everyday is a struggle and a battle!
i just did my skincare for the first time in a long time because i suffer from depression and it gets worse in the cold winters here (yay michigan) and skincare is one of the first things to go when im feeling real bad but you motivated me to want to do a full routine again, thanks james xx
I am completely the same way. Taking care of myself is always the first thing to go when it's a bad depression or anxiety day. It just gets so freaking heavy!
Same!
❤️
I'm the same, I love doing my skincare but it's always the first thing to go when my mental health disorders worsen.i hope life is going well for you and that you're taking care of yourself
I'm here with you...but the snow is just about gone now!
I started my skin care journey with The Ordinary products. And even though I try other things, I always keep the whole line in my stock, cuz I tend to still supplement their ingredients into other products. I'm like a skin care mad scientist.
OooOOOooo, what a great line! 🤣
Same love the ordinary it's doing wonders X
I'm a mom of 3 on a very tight budget. I use the full elf holy hydration line and I love it. The cleanser you showed is what I use and it usually lasts me like a month and a half to 2 months with everyday use. So it's definitely an amazing deal. And I have very dry skin and it has done wonders for my skin. I'm a huge elf fan! 💙
I've been using that elf cleanser for years now off and on and I always seem to go back to it because the other cleansers that I've tried lately don't seem to compare
The e.l.f. cleansing balm from the Holy Hydration line is perfect. I’m totally fine with spending a lot on skin care, but nothing I’ve tried beats the e.l.f. product.
I was extremely impressed with the elf holy hydration cleansing balm.
same, i used to used the then i met you living cleansing balm but the elf one is just as good and so much cheaper
SAME!!!
I have tried a few, elf has the best price and the texture washes off better. Love it!
I use it every single night, it’s SOOO good!!!
I like it too! but felt like I flew through the tiny jar too fast 🤷♀️
Personaly I love the Aveeno Calm + Restore line. They're kind of "boring" products but the best affordable cleanser and moisturizer I've found for my sensitive skin.
Until recently, I worked in skincare for a brand that told us that everything was safe for the "most sensitive" skin, and that one of the founders had rosacea (as do I) and everything (including strong acids and multiple exfoliators) were safe to use. These were luxury priced products and they RUINED my skin. I've been using a prescription rosacea treatment, but I just picked up a few of Beauty Bay's products (both moisturisers, mushroom serum and gel cleanser) and I can't stress how impressed I am. My redness has gone down, my skin is soft, none of them sting on application, nothing is heavily fragranced or full of sensitising essential oils. If you need rosacea-friendly basics, they are great!
James i need to know what you think of Lush!
For me, my skin is loving the Superdrug me+ range and it's so affordable and often on 3 for 2. Their Hyaluronic acid cleanser has been a game changer for my eczema-y face and shoulders (also their Solait face sun screen it's the only one I don't want to claw off my skin)
I used some of the body lotions with SA and Niacinamide found them to be real good
I saw this the other day and was wondering if they were any decent!
I love the Me+ range to 👍❤️
Their vitamin E range is really nice too!
@@sophiemorris3236 this too. The 360⁰ spray-on body lotion is nice and light as a face moisturiser (spraying it into my hands and then patting it into my face)
Had an awful day so I was glad you uploaded. Just seeing you cheers me up. Thank you
Love this.. So straight to the point n practical.. Please do more of these James!
my fave skincare guru! so clear and easy to follow! We appreciate you :)
Wow, thanks James for the time and effort to make this video!
This was your first video I have seen and I was so impressed!
I’ve been very happy with ELF Holy Hydration cleansing balm and the cream. I use it at night. Also use the ELF toner. The products fit in well with a few of my more expensive products. I don’t tend to spend much more than $50 on a product, so love the price on ELF. And they WORK.
I needed this! Skincare is so important to my mental health 💞💞💞
Great list and especially highlighting the fact that there's so much quality skincare and makeup out there within a lower budget. There's no excuse for not taking care of ourselves! 💋
Your voice is soo soothing. I love it. Great video as always.
I'm loving the Mad about skin range. Lovely products and affordable too!
So glad you mentioned boots! I've been using them recently and they're basic but good for budget!
Thank you for making this video. This will be very helpful for those striving for affordable beauty.
Great timing on this video seeing as people are being more cautious with their spending, there's some awesome budget skincare products around
I’ve been really loving the ELF cleansing balm and their SPF moisturizer
We want more videos like this! ❤️ Many of us are on a budget even before the pandemic!
This is a great video! So needed for basics. I myself have been loving the elf hydration line - love the cleansing balm and it does what it needs to do as well as Clinique or Elemis etc
Thank you for the tip about powdering your eyes before sunscreen, I tried it today and it worked so well 🖤
Happy Sunday, James! I’m saving this because I love a bargain. Have an awesome week! 💖💜💖💜💖💜
Ok so the ordinary caffeine serum stuff didn't do much under my eyes BUT I use it on my thin hair line, where above my temples it is getting thinner. No joke this stuff makes my hair grow so fast and full. It strengthens the baby hairs and i swear by it now. Super cheap and versatile!
I’m so glad you mentioned ELF! I’ve been using the ELF Supers line and I love it! It’s super cheap, the cleanser doesn’t leave your face stripped and the gel moisturizer isn’t too heavy! 👏
Thank for this James!❤️🙌🏻
Tbh “drugstore” skin care is what I gravitate back to after venturing into more expensive products. Combine that with Tretinoin and my skins lookin like a million bucks lol.
Thank you! I got into skin care at the same time as make up. It’s been sooo expensive. Especially because at first I figured ‘you get what you pay for’. I learned real fast that it’s way more complicated.
I KNOW niacinimide makes pores appear smaller! I added a niacinimide serum and was absolutely shocked!!! It was the ONLY change in my routine! And I have LARGE pores due to sun damage💜🖤💜🖤Welsh Twins are awesome!
Please let me know which moisturizer you were using with niacinamide??
This video is a life saver. Thanks James ✨
Great video! I’ve been using E. L. F. Skincare for a very long time and it works beautifully and doesn’t break the bank.
the new elf pure skin line is so good. i put the toner in a spray bottle and use it like a face mist and the moisturizer is really nice, kinda dimethicone-y but not extremely so and it really hydrated my skin
I love the garnier sunscreens. Their UVA protection ist incredible.
Thank you for this video James, very helpful and kind of reassuring that we can still take care of our skin in this current climate, where everything gets more & more expensive.
Great video! Really helpful for people who can't or don't want to spend a lot. Love the music too! I'm glad you mentioned the Bondi Sands. I was considering buying it as so many rave about it, but as an oily skin person, probably not for me!
Happy Easter James! Hope you have a restful skin day. Love the Ordinary, and now I’m trying the collection of Haruharu, and loving it! Also, Aveeno kid’s stick sunscreen, game changer!
thank you for testing budget options. times are indeed hard financially do really appreciated. 👏
So enjoy your videos and Twins & Marcus and your dearest friend and helper behind the scenes. This has one of the best written descriptions list maybe ever. This is such an informative video and its inclusive of affordable items.
I would LOVE longer videos! You’re my favorite skincare youtuber and Im truly sad when a video is less than 10 minutes 🤣 anything over 15 is amazing! & don’t be afraid to do some close to 30! I know there’s other people that would love it too 😊
The second garnier sunscreen I’ve been using since last year. It’s really cheap and I had that bottle since June of last year and I just recently finished it. It was also the only sunscreen I was using.
Yep me too! It’s lasted ages and I love it! X
@@amandalouise8823 it’s really good I love the glow and my makeup looks beautiful on top of it.
@@crytical1237 and its not greasy?
@@christopherbird2739 it’s shiny which I like it’s not greasy in the way when u can feel it on your skin personally. I only apply sunscreen during the day I don’t use anything else sometimes moisturiser so take what u want with that information.
Really appreciate that compilation! I found out last year (through a lot of trial and error) that I'm allergic to tocopheryl acetate, and it's in *everything* so it's been quite hard for me to find moisturisers and especially sunscreens. Checked out your recommendations and found some that should work for me, thank you!
Oh my goodness this is the exact video I was hoping for! Thank you for posting this (:
This video is so good! It's really nice to see UK affordable products mentioned, and ya can't beat good ol' vaseline! There's another UK based, affordable and cruelty free brand is Q+A. Available at Holland & Barrett, Sainsbury and on their website too - been using them for like a year, and they're amazing! Would love to see you review some of their products ☀️
I love the whole elf hydration set.
Thank You James! My skincare routine is inexpensive ( not my sunscreen.. that’s glow recipe.. I love it!) Inkey list and good molecules are my favorites. Your skin looks fabulous 😍🖤💜
Thanks to your content James you taught me about one of my now favourite ingredients - squalane! E.l.f’s super hydrate squalane moisturiser and The Ordinary’s Squalane Oil are now 2 of my holy grail products and both really affordable. Thanks a million, love this video ☺️
I've literally been waiting for this.
First time catching one of your videos within minutes of it being posted! I feel like this is an Easter miracle 🐇🐣
Right I’m so happy I caught this so early on!!!!
Yay! I've been waiting for you to talk about Byoma. I just got the starter kit for 18.99 in the U.S. and it is really nice and affordable. Been using it for 3 days now.
The elf prep and hydrate stick is a great primer !!! I use nothing else for priming. I swirl it around just on my cheeks. ( dry skin)
I love the simple gel moisturizer. It's one of two that doesn't break out. (Rectivan lotus cream is the other)
Thank you for this video james. I'm trying to figure out how im able to keep up with my skincare routine when im gonna be tight on money cause stuff is getting so much more expensive, this helps so much thank you
Loved this, thanks James! My skin really used to like the ordinary moisturiser- it drank it up, then I had the same as you where it just slid around my face. My fave bargain products right now are some of the primark skincare! I really like their HA lightweight moisturiser, the cleansing balm (although it feels more oily than my fave squalane) is really good at make up removal. I'm trying a few of their serums at the moment too- so cheap.
Definitely love Neutrogena, Cetaphil and CereVe. Elf's eye cream and hemp line is good
One of my favorites for my dry skin is Garnier Skinactive moister rescue face moisturizer. It’s a gel cream and I love it! It’s $8 and a little goes a long way. It comes in a sensitive and normal/combo. My skin gets dry, tight and flaky and this helps it so much.
Thanks for the video! Ponds cold cream cleanser is one that I'm looking into as I love that it comes in a tub (means I can get all the last dregs out and easy to recycle) x
Totally agreed on the inkey list fulvic acid cleansed. Tried it and instantly become my go-to cleanser. Have repurchased it already. Definitely non stripping and very gentle. It just ticks all the boxes for me! PS its always summer where I live and I have oily combo and sensitive skin! 😊
James you need to try the Aveeno Calm and Restore range especially the cleanser! Soooo gentle I love it so much
I love elf's Holy Hydration! cleansing balm, it feels so good, plus The Inkey List's Oat Cleansing Balm and their Salicylic Acid Cleanser. Also use the elf Holy Hydration! gel cleanser you featured. I ❤ a good for skin budget buy. Thank u for this vid!
Superdrug naturally radiant renewing night cream. I absolutely love it, I have normal skin that gets dry/ oily depending on my diet and the weather. It smells lovely and the texture is great and my skin always feels so moisturised the morning after. It's one of those products that I always come back to
I’ve been loving The Inkey List’s Omega Water Cream! Perfect lightweight moisturizer I use morning and night for my mostly normal (sometimes a tad oily in tzone) skin type! I think it would work for most skin types except for maybe a super dry skin.
My skin absolutely loves elfs happy hydration moisturiser with hemp in, I use this at night and it's so moisturising but not too heavy or sticky! I've also recently started using the blue bondi sands spf and I'm liking that so far! Leaves me with a nice glow. I'd be interested to try the byoma cleanser as I currently use corsx good morning cleanser but it leaves me a bit dry after use! Thanks for the tips James ✨️💜
I use Inkey and they last a few months. Love their products, huge change in my skin
I started using ELFs skincare and I'm impressed with it. I have super dry skin, their face cream has helped my skin feel so much better.
Such a thoughtful video, thank you for the recommendations. 💕
Thanks to your videos I found the Inkey List and they changed my skin for the better and they work great for my budget too because I’m disabled and live on disability payments!!!!
Love a good budget skincare routine! My bf is just getting into skincare and I decided to order him some products from the Inkey List. I started him off with the Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser, the Q10 Antioxidant Serum, the Omega Water Cream Moisturizer, and the Ordinary's AHA and BHA peel for once a week. So far, so good, but I do need to get him to wear a good sunscreen!
I bought recently a moisturiser ‘ Rose Gold Rescue’ from Bliss for £5 in Boots and I am absolutely loving it! It’s got this very creamy and luxurious texture but sinks in to the skin so quickly! It’s definitely more for people with normal/combination/oily skin! It’s going to be my fav for summer! I honestly couldn’t believe how luxurious it feels for £5! It’s like a marshmallow/whipped cream texture.
Really helpful info. Thanks James.
I've been using Origins ginzing gel cream for a couple of years. The simple one actually works pretty good as well! Kinda the same texture and light feel to it.
Yes! Vaseline is great stuff! I opt for the Cerave healing ointment because I use it on my lips (I keep the small tube in my bag) and I like the feel better than Vaseline but both are great for around the eyes and covering little cuts or ouchies (what my whole family uses if they are not actively bleeding). But Cerave is still pretty affordable and you get a lot in either type of packaging - tub or tube.
I have the whole holy hydration line, I love it!
For my combo oily skin I've been using the neutrogena gel sunscreen without a moisturiser and it's been great. Ive been wondering about that fulvic acid cleanser so thanks for the review!
Love your videos! Im currently loving the Bakuchiol oil boster from BYBI i purchased it on sale from target for 20 dollars and have seen a reduction in my fine lines.
It's great actually finding someone from the UK giving advice I've been looking a lot lately and everyone seems to be from the US great advice thankyou so much
I've really been loving the Elf matte face lotion for under my makeup. It's seriously a dupe for the caudalie skin perfecting mattifying fluid which is a must if you have super oily skin like me and work hard during the day.
James you are an absolute beautiful person, thank you for this ❤ this is why I follow you and love your content
That’s so interesting, I haven’t seen a chemical sunscreen that wouldn’t sting my eyes in years (I’ve been using a separate spf around my eyes, the same one for a very long time, and every time I try something new, I regret it immediately) but I had absolutely no problem with the Garnier one! But I agree, it’s very good, especially for oily skin.
Vaseline lip therapy is my go-to budget balm. I find the squeezy tube makes for easy application as well. 😁
I love the elf hello hydration (fragrance free) moisturizer! Super simple ingredients and great for my acne prone skin.
this video is so handy! i'm a bit tight on money rn and have been cutting on some skincare, so i put the Garnier Ambre solaire sun protection cream (the 200 ml one) right into my face, not only my body and it lasts at least 3-4 months! plus i'm using the old good nivea creme (250 ml) which is ridiculosly cheap and lasts sooo long✨
While I've definitely swapped out to more expensive products because of YOU, I do really enjoy products by good molecules. My favorites from them are the niacinamide serum, the moisturizer primer, and the pineapple exfoliating powder.
Was just thinking about how I need a new sunscreen, so this was perfect timing😄
Half of why I watch your videos is because of how calm it makes me feel. Like just listening to your voice. Thank you for all your content!
Love a good budget video. Happy Easter everyone
I'm so glad you did this. I was just watching Rose (roseandben) do her skincare routine and nothing was under $50 heck her serum was $450! Absolutely insane. So 😅it's good to get recommendations I can actually try
Thank you, great info as always!!! ♡
Love this! Great skincare doesn't have to break the bank, especially in times of inflation!
I have been using boots skin clear range.. The lotion is fantastic, so cheap, doesn't leave my skins greasy and sinks into the skin really fast. I have also been using the anti redness night balm and found it to improve my skin texture
