Tennessee has always been a solid program under Rick Barnes. They've gotten good NCAA Tournament seeds, they've performed well in the SEC, and they are known for having one of the best defenses in college basketball. The problem? They just never seem to figure things out on offense. Enter Dalton Knecht. A 6-6 grad transfer from Northern Colorado who has put the Tennessee offense, and their Final Four hopes, on his back.

  • I disagree with the no 2nd scoring options. What is ZZ averaging right now? He is averaging almost 11 points a game. JJJ, Vescovi, and Aidoo can give you double figures any night. Gainey is a capable scorer.

    • All fair points. It just seems like none of them are consistent enough game to game.

    • @@BobbyDouglasBasketball ZZ has had 1 bad game (South Carolina 2 Points) since he’s been 100% healthy in Mid December. He tore his knee up around a year ago.

  • Not a bad analysis. I do think he is the key to making a Final Four his year. However, I think people who put down the past losses to Chicago-Loyola and FAU in the NCAAT are not being completely fair. That 2018 Chicago-Loyola team ended up 32-5, defeated UT by one point, then went on to the Elite 8, beating Nevada and Kansas St - so they were no pushovers. And the 2023 FAU team went 35-4, beat Kansas St to make the Final Four, and lost to San Diego State by only one point. Yeah, I still wish we had won those games, but it's not like we lost an opening round game.

    • Yeah that's true. It's not like they're losing to "bad" tournament teams, but I'd still argue that they should've won all those games.

  • I'm sorry, but DK is not enough of a difference maker to carry this team any further than they've already been. The scoring droughts are present every single night. I appreciate and have enjoyed watching DK play, and he is the only reason this team gets out of the round of 32. My prediction from day 1: sweet 16 loss. Second verse, same as the first.

    • Yeah that's a fair take. My whole line of thinking is that they got to the Sweet 16 last year with practically the same roster, so adding Knecht I think is good enough to maybe get to the Elite 8 or something.

    • Anything is possible, but DK is good enough to shoot Tennessee through a round in the tourney. And if the Vols get contributions from JJJ, Vescovi, and Aidoo watch out! I didn’t mention ZZ, because he is a STUD. Eventually, Tennessee & Rick Barnes will break through. This year’s team has as good of chance as any.

    • @@shadiwolf2720 yeah those 3 won the SEC tournament the year that Kennedy Chandler was there. Z came off the bench. They did tie with Auburn for a reg season title but it was grant Schofield and bones second to last year I’m pretty sure. Because the next year they all came back and were better but lost steam toward the end of the year and it cost them a back to back.
