    • @@liquidminds That's reductive. Dogs don't care what you call them, it's just a string of meaningless sounds to them, so I'd personally have no problem naming a dog "Plague" or "Terror" or anything like that, it would actually be funny to have a dog with a name like that be an actual bundle of love and joy. Plus "Venom" can be a pop culture reference, the movie came out before that dog was born. I could name a dog "Venom" - although I'm pretty sure they'd get nicknamed "Venven" pretty soon.

  • When we adopted my late dog, he had a collar with King on it. The shelter workers all called him that but he flinched when he got called it. We had to wait a day to take him home but when we finalized it so they couldn't adopt him out to someone else, I asked them to change it to the name we were gonna call him on the cage. I named him Yugi... Yes after Yu-Gi-Oh because he was very timid and yet very sweet... And I knew once he came out of his shell nothing was gonna stop him. We had our beloved boy for ten years.

  • I adopted an intimidating looking pitbull from an animal shelter that was previously used for dog fighting. People were too scared to adopt him, but he ended up being the sweetest dog ever who just wanted some love. The shelter said his name was Zues. I wanted a gentler name for him. I noticed his fur looked like it had brindle stoney looking patches, so I named him Rocky. That was before I found this channel. Now I realize just how cool of a name I chose.

  • I spent 5 years as a county animal control officer in one of the largest and most affluent counties in California. While there was lots of satisfaction, the frustration and anger that much of the work engendered was really hard to tolerate. I am watching lots of suspicion and way too many fear responses from this dog. That, along with almost no response to the praise tells me way too much about her former owners; as in people who have no business owning a dog. Project dogs like this girl are demanding but always worth the effort. She just really needs a home where she can trade her affection for affection in return. Most dogs deserve far more than they get.

  • GSD's are beautiful, loyal, loving, protective family members. Absolutely one of my favorite breeds. There is something deeply special about Shepherds. I lost my Girl 3 weeks ago. ..she has Vestibular disease. I rescued her 9 years ago, from a deplorable life. What was done to that baby was unconscionable. I had her for 9 wonderful years, and did my best to UN-DO every evil, rotten thing, AND memory she endured, and every terror she lived through. Her 9 years with me, hopefully erased the evil from her memory. I loved that Dog with all my heart, and she loved me. She was strong, and faithful. She was protective, and loving. My heart is broken over losing her. I still "hear" her moving about the house ... checking on my sleeping family. I pray that God finds me worthy of another German Shepherd...I cannot ever replace her, but I'd sure love to have a new friendship with one. Shepherds... They are remarkable animals.

And that is the commitment people should have when they buy an animal that they are introducing a new family member To stick with and stick by for ever till the end of days .New cute, young, rambunctious, old and sick. In fact, I think there should be a type of fund that is held to the side. that people have to pay on buying an animal. to ensure that that animal is backed up in terms of food and maintenance (And only ever payable as food and dog animal maintenance). So when somebody cannot do this the dog is safe. Rule is don't make a buying animals easy .

  • In the 1960s my family owned 60 acres in the country in a mid-Atlantic state. The humane society had a very small shelter a couple of miles away and my mother got to know some of the people there. A beautiful, small, female GSD came into the shelter but they had no room and my mother brought her home to foster her. As a child on a farm, we took care of the animals but I was informed that the GSD was 'vicious' and that care was needed when feeding, etc. The real story was that she came from a home where a couple had one child, a son, who was beating the dog and the dog eventually began to respond aggressively to the son, and began to dislike male humans. That dog became part of our family, became a strong protector of my younger sibling, and we loved her to the end of her life. It seems that Honey may not have been treated well, likely didn't received the positive love and care she should have, and only needs a good person to turn her around. I hope she finds that home!

  • Nobody be discouraged by this behavior if you get a dog acting like this. My shepherd from the shelter acted like this for a month but he found his favorite rocking chair and laid in it by my bed and slowly started opening up. Now the dog is the most playful and talkative dog I’ve ever seen. Hes a literally 100 pound baby who submits to the little 20 lb daushand because he knew the other dog was here first. It’s so sweet to watch. But just dont be discourage by this behavior and make it why you never get that kind of dog

  • The whole sitting process and just letting her get comfy reminded me of my granddad and his dog, Cuddles. Cuddles was abandoned in the woods about eight miles from the nearest town, out where my granddad lived. He'd put a bowl of food out on the porch and sit with him and talk to him, and after a few days Cuddles would hang out on the porch with him, which then progressed to letting my granddad pet him. After a week, he was able to convince Cuddles to come inside. Cuddles was still pretty iffy on hanging out with a human, so he stayed in the entryway for a week, but eventually warmed up to my granddad and started roaming around the house. They had 10 wonderful years together. My granddad named him Cuddles because, according to him, "he looked like he needed a cuddle and a hug". Honey has the same energy.

  • I recognize that Australian cattle dog expression and border collie coat coloration. She is very special working breed that needs acknowledgement - not happy just as a pet. They receive affection through constant companionship and being around herding animals. Careful, they aren’t called “healers” for nothing. Ever seen them load bulls into a stock trailer in an open pasture? They are masters of body language and highly observant, happiest with constant learning challenges and structured predictable environment. Could be her previous family didn’t provide enough appropriate activity to satisfy her breed needs so she took out that pent up frustration on her companion. I predict she’d make a great helpmate for a young family farmstead.

And I've experienced the same thing as a kindergarten teacher in a very low income and gang ridden area. Idc if everyone including your mother calls you Lil Ray Ray or Chili or Bam or J-dawg. I'm calling you Rayquan, Achilles, Amber and Jayden. They are totally different kids in my classroom. As a side note, years later I was helping Jayden with a college application and where it asked for 'Street name" he wrote J-dawg. Names effect our entire lives. 😮

I’ve worked with rescue dogs before and the craziest reason for owners to bring their dog (pitbull) to the shelter was because he wasn’t “aggressive” enough. People sometimes come up with the craziest reasons to abandon their pets, so the fact she had 4 owners wasn’t something that scared me off. That being said, I visited Juno 2 times before adopting her, just to make sure we were a good match for each other and to see if there were any behavioral problems which could’ve been difficult for me to work with. Turns out she was and still is perfect ❤️

It is something that is misunderstood, and misused by many people. Not Every single situation holds true, but the majority of the time, if You follow this rule, You will be correct. Stay Positive, Vigilant, Be Kind, Happy, Caring, Respectful, Loving, and You Will Be Fabulously Blessed. 🙏🏽 ♥️ 🙌

I didn’t get him until he was almost a year and had spent almost that entire time in shelters. He’s a cattle dog/pibble mix. When I first got him he wouldn’t stop crying and cowering and wasn’t potty trained. He’s so smart he was house broken in about 1 week and was a completely different dog within 1 month. He still has issues with fear nipping (so we use a Baskerville muzzle on busy trails or meeting new people) and is especially uncomfortable around men. Pretty sure he was abused. Came to me with scars in his head and a chunk missing from his tongue. Besides that he’s the absolute funnest, most affectionate dog I’ve ever had. He’s 11 now but still acts like he’s a puppy. Project dogs are soooo worth it. Please don’t give up on any dogs who have emotional issues. 🖤

  • I got my black mix pit labrador a couple years ago with my mom when her friend said she couldn’t bring her during the move. She didn’t want her to be in a shelter because the poor puppy was unwanted from 3 families. I can’t imagine what she had to go through, but we made sure that she has a forever home with us. She is currently happy and lovey dovey living with me and my family. :)

Just need love, patience, people meeting you where you are in the moment and speaking life into you. Thank you for not seeing them as a lost cause. You remind me I'm also not a lost cause. Some animals just need extra love, just like rescue people.

I would have took this dog in if she was close enough to me to retrieve from your shelter. I hate animal abuse. This beautiful girl looks just like two other dogs I had the privilege of blessing my life in the past. That poor baby girl looks so broken hearted. God bless your soul for what you are doing with unwanted, troubled and abused animals. The world needs more people in it like you. Please continue with your good works. I know it would be a long and probably a bumpy road, but there is a hope even with the most reactive dogs. It was so nice to see her come out in her shell just that tiny bit. • She looks just like my Lolly. I adopted her here in Spain and she was the same, scared, in a corner. I adopted from a post I saw on fb without ever meeting her in person. She was broken when she arrived and would not leave her corner for a week and I could not get her outside without carrying her (25kg) for several months. She hates treats, they did not interest her, but now she lives for treats. Her bed was in the corner in the living room the first week. So I slept on the couch to keep an eye on her and not leave her alone in a strange place, but after a week I decided to go to my room. I tried to convince her to come, even carried her there, but she ran immediately back to her corner. Then I woke up in the morning and it was the most beautiful gift, she had come in the middle of the night and lay beside my bed on the ground. Although she did not interact with me, this was a great sign, as it was when I left the house and came home and she had taken one of my flipflops from the entrance into her bed to sleep with. Now, 3+ years later, that is still her spot next to my bed, she chose it, even though I'd love her on the bed, she prefers this spot. It took a good two years for Lolly to behave like a more normal dog, and even now she will never be completely fearless and "normal". The amount of abuse she had in her first year of life was unfathomable. She is a princess in the house, but scared on walks and will always be, but that's okay, I am getting used to my girl. I am so happy that you mentioned that the transformations are not always fast. When I got Lolly I had watched so many videos and assumed within a week or few months she'd be completely transformed, but this did not happen and I got really down. But now I realize, I had expectations from social media videos, but what really happened was that (with time) I had to get used to her and she had to get used to me, and then we just figured it out together over time. I just discovered your channel and it brings tears to my eyes to see people making such a difference... and yes! Names are important, they resonate meaning and energy. I am so glad her name is now Honey

    • :3 adorbs! I just wish my brothers(I have 3 and they're all older than me so of course I'm not gonna be listened to whether I was a male like them or not) never hit our dogs just because they did something they didn't know they weren't suppose to do. We never got rid of them btw and the last dog we got had three litters(10, 10, 3) and we only had others that wanted to adopt them do so, but ended up keeping just two from the first litter just because one of them threw up and the other one ate it🤦‍♀. I wish our dogs had a better life and I wish I knew even more than I did back then but also I was a kid still in elementary school and in&out of the hospital because diseases exists for some reason, but most importantly, I wish ppl would listen to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one doing research and experiments on literally everything I come across as long as I know what I'm doing :/ The only thing they've really only been trained to do(sort of) was sit, stand and "up".(Having them literally jump up on their hind legs to put their front paws in our hands or chest XD ) That one wasn't intended actually😅 but then again, most things are like that... I just wish ppl would always think before doing/saying something and do research if there is any actual true information on the internet and then experiment if not, but common sense ain't common :( and unfortunately, not every little thing you can find will always be found in a "morally correct" way because life ain't fair :/

  • Let’s think about this for a minute… they said straight out they don’t want her, they keep putting off paying the shelter fees, since they were on VACATION the first time she was there, it’s clearly not because they can’t afford it!! I don’t believe she got out of the yard, they let her out of the yard because they don’t want her anymore. So sad, as are all these cases, because she’s such a sweetheart, and deserves a loving home, and someone would never abandon her, but give her all the love she deserves!! 🐾❤️

    • You have no idea what their financial situation is. You don't know how long ago the vacation was, or where they went. You don't know if someone lost a job since then. And the fact that she was hurting another dog might've just been the proverbial straw. I am dealing with two dogs who got along fine, then suddenly they're having fights, sometimes several a week, with blood drawn (including mine). It is very difficult, frustrating, frightening, and disheartening. I'm thankful they are SMALL dogs, I can't imagine going through this with one or both the same size as Honey. I'm figuring out ways to manage them without needing to get rid of one, but that doesn't mean everyone can do that. Especially if there are children around. Better for a dog to be surrendered than a child get injured or killed.
