It would be simple to have safety belts attached bt cable or other strapping substance then anchored to the deck of the boat to prevent fishermen/crew from being thrown overboard.

Fishing can be a high intensity environment with men crossing from one direction of the boat to the other, crossing paths could cause the cables to become entangled and possibly result in injury from falling.

In 2013 my final year of HS, technology was extremely banned from schools they threatened to take your phone, keep it for a year 😂 which my parents would never allow that. See kids back then we didnt have KZhead in 6th grade to look up how to do math or something we had to tough that shit out. I didnt see a smartphone till I was in 7th or 8th grade and that's when the iphone came out and the only kid who had it was the millionaire parents kids.

These squid did make it all the way up to Washington State in 09-10. We fished them out of Sekiu Wa. Biggest our group caught was was over 6ft
I remember those years. I worked on a purse seiner out of Westport, WA. We targeted sardines, but caught about 100 Humboldt squid one day. They were mixed with the sardines, had to pitch the squid back overboard. Heavy bastards

That's what I always liked about Mr. Jeremy Wade...the biologist out weights the angler...u also learn many things about the catch and not just the how to of it...and the one time he let the people win out in keeping the catch was out of respect for local tribal culture...
at least there's some fish that we don't have to worry about overfishing.

Actually the author of Jaws wrote a book about a killer giant squid called The Beast
He said so this is the beast but that was a small one. Ive heard Humboldts can be 6 ft. If you look at their beak, jagged hooks on their arms, their aggressiveness and extreme intelligence you might not worry about the Humboldts so much but what about a giant squid up to 50 ft. They have proven it exists.
We are helpless in the water. A 40 pound fish can take us down.
Giant and collosal squid exist 100s of feet down and pose little threat to people. This is far more frightening.
The Humboldts have v=been in Canada from Victoria to Bamfield on Vancouver Island for years. They come and they go with the warm waters.
Imagine, like he said, being dragged deep down and drowned when you fall overboard. That has to be one of the worst ways to go. 😳😬💀

The "coming to a beach near you" line is no joke. I'm from Vancouver Island Canada in the Pacific Northwest and back in 2006 we had a flood of humboldt squid migrate to the western side of the island. The dead ones were washing up on the beaches in the hundreds for at least a month...

The deep sea definitely scares me but I believe its the giant squids that actually gets me... I know it could definitely just be my imagination but you could never be so sure about how big one of these damn squids can actually be... we just dont know... and its frickin terrifying.

For Humboldt's you only have to go to the sea of Cortez. They fish for squids, I dove with one that I happened on. It was trying to drag me down, and it was strong. Humboldt's scare me way more than sharks.

I only saw it clearly for a few seconds. And everything looks a little bigger under water. It looked like he was 5 ft long and at first it was cool to see it swimming. Then it decided I was chow and in a second it clammed on to my left thigh and started pulling me down. After it latched on to me I think it was more like 3 ft. The whole time it was flashing red and feel it chewing threw my wet suit. I was at 90 ft so I inflated my bc and that was the only reason he couldn't get me down and gave up and left. I am really grateful their wasn't two or more I would not have made it. The locals warned about diving deep at night in open waters. Hopefully you live and learn.

I thought about it my knife was on my right calf. I was to busy pulling it's tenticles off me. I could feel it chewing so I started to panic a little. I was worrying about it getting through my wetsuit. To tell you the truth my dad always said if you run into any critter's that you think is big enough that you need to use your knife. It's already too big and all your going to do is piss it off.

I spent 6 months on a NOAA fisheries research ship in the Eastern Tropical Pacific - we would stop for water testing each night and also go fishing. I have pulled in squid like these but have seen others at least 5 feet in length. Scarry.

These squid are just a lot bigger versions of arrow squid from where i am from. Arrows are very aggressive as when you catch them they try and grab a hold of you, which is pretty funny to see and watch once they're out of the water. We are normally going for Southern Calamari squid from Victoria Australia but you can catch these arrows from time to time.
OMG! The river monster guy has graduated to the SEA! But those squid aren't really deadly! They could bite you, but that's about it! And you can bite them, and I hear they are delicious!
Little late here, but BS, Humboldt Squid are f*cking dangerous- you fall overboard into a ravenous swarm of these things, they’ll drag you down and shred you with their beaks and tentacles- think of them as the squid version of Piranha..
