  • I don't get it. What are the sandy oily cylinders used for at the beginning? I see they get thrown into the top of the furnace, but are they fuel (sand??) or metal powder or what?

    • That is charcoal. Sawdust mixed with oil, and then, converted to chardoal.

    • It's used oil used to bind the casting sand. Not sure whether it's engine oil or cooking oil, or a mixture of anything available.
