Bethesda aren't themselves anymore. Fallout is dying. Elder Scrolls 6 is years away. Now, we're gonna look back at Bethesda's last adored project, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. We're going to ask and answer one simple question. Why did you love Skyrim?

    • I first started playing Fallout a few years ago with Fallout 4. I had tons of fun, believe it made a great introduction to the series, with a simple yet captivating storyline, a RPG system that worked just fine and some great interactions between characters. Then I played fallout New Vegas, which sincerely looks more like a Mad Max universe than a post nuclear apocalypse, but the Gambling system was really fun to use. Then this year I played 76... OKAY YEAH IT SUCKS ON "SOLO", but if you gather a few friends it can really be a great way to have fun. Me and the bois liked to go bunkers on West Virginia and it was pretty damn good. What I believe happens is that the previous games had a similar vibe that worked out greatly, and the most recent ones try new styles, which sometimes backfires or people dislike it because it's not the same as before. I for myself am very happy that many franchises are trying to rewind some games with a fresh new look, and as long as you have fun or a good experience playing a game, I believe it achieved it's purpose. I might be the only guy that actually liked Mass Effect Andromeda and No Man's Sky, soooooooooo....

  • Might be that I'm getting old, but I never understood why people shit on Skyrim's graphics so much. That is literally the most often cited criticism I've heard of the game. Yes, obviously today's games look better, and obviously modded graphic packs make the game look more stunning, but in my opinion, Skyrim's vanilla graphics are already on a level that after a couple minutes of play, I'd completely forget about these minor details and be immersed in the world.

      @Corrupted@Corrupted2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Corrupted I wouldn't say it's "product"-feeling, but there are a lot of aspects that clearly were designed to be mass-produced first and hand-crafted second. The melee combat is a big offender. There's still a hell of a lot of content, and very little of it has NOTHING to throw you off, hence why I keep finding new things. Even if most locations in Skyrim only have one thing that sets them apart from every other crypt in the same genre, I've played games that don't even reach *that* standard, and I naturally didn't play them for something like 500 hours over ten years.

  • One tidbit on the archery section, as an archery instructor, you actually do aim "lower" on close targets. It still felt sort of intuitive to me because at short range, because of the angle of your eye to the arrow tip, you actually do aim the tip of the arrow sometimes WELL below the target. It's why when you see bows with sights on them the sights are so high up and sometimes have multiple prongs to aim with to account for nearer and farther targets

  • Growing up I was a very quiet kid and always kept to myself and never talked to people, but when my parents got me Skyrim for my birthday it helped change me. I would get lost in the world for hours just wandering around taking in the amazing views and listening to all the sounds the game offered me, the music was always great and helped soothe my social anxiety to the point when I would go to school I could actually have a conversation with someone. Might sound dumb but Skyrim gave me hope when I couldn’t give it to myself, it gave me freedom, and it helped me get out of the dark places in my head. This game is easily my favorite rpg of all time and definitely my favorite game in general. The memories I’ve made and had with this game is why I love Skyrim.

  • The greatness of the Elder Scrolls games lie in their scope. Whenever they come out, they're a bit clunkier than they should be but the sheer scope of what you can do always surpasses other contemporary games by a lot. So I can overlook some of the wooden NPC dialogue and random bugs because the world is so open and enormous it's outshines all of the negatives.

    @logicaldude3611@logicaldude36113 жыл бұрын
    • Its funny because I enjoy the wooden dialogue and use of few voice actors for NPCs, it somehow gave the games charm. Unintentionally hilarious when two visually different looking NPCs talk to each other with the same voice. Plus the lines are quotable as hell especially in Oblivion and Skyrim. "By the gods, there's a psychopath on the loose" or "My cousin's out there fighting dragons and what do I get, guard duty".

    • 2 years late but one month early to add that it's not only Elder Scrolls, Bethesda are pioneers in the game industry. It's not about achieving the very best graphical and gameplay performance within its timeline. It's about creating new concepts and innovating on what drives the player, through the screen. Why one month early? Because Starfield will soon be launching and i have zero doubts that the game will be forever remembered. I don't expect it to be bug-free nor short of some issues that others games may have already solved, matter of fact, i don't expect anything from Bethesda RPG's and i still get pleasantly surprised.

  • Honestly, the moment Skyrim became truly immortal, is when Bethesda basically gave people the keys to Skyrim, and said to just make more for ourselves. Thus, Skyrim Modding came into existence. The shear number of mods available, for FREE by the way, is staggering. Got bored of something. Install this neat mod, that does basically nothing but make the world look a bit cooler, and play through the nite game again. Skyrim has become an near eternal toy for people to play with, as they add more and more pieces, until they make something basically there own, a basically unique selection of mods, unique to them, there own personal Skyrim.

    • That is how I always think about Doom and Skyrim. They're quite identical when it comes to how well-known they are:they're both old but gold,people all over the world love it with passion,you can play them on pretty much anything and the mods make them either into something more enhanced or a completely different game. Id Software's Doom and Bethesda's Skyrim are basically the gamer's most loyal friends that cemented their legacies into the history of games,unchanged by the time itself.

Sure, our bows only had a maximum of 25 lbs of pull back, significantly less than what the long bows in Skyrim would have, but even 10m away from the target I’d have to aim almost at the bottom of the target to hit a bullseye. I know, I know, it’s just a video game, and the English long bow had ~100lbs of pull, but having to aim lower the intended target was something I appreciated, even it doesn’t make sense. Archery was really fun when I tried Skyrim vr because of the crazy shots I could try that I never could in competition 😂😂

Everything in that game could be boiled down to 'go in X cave/dungeon/tomb, kill everything, get Y item, return to main hub area and sell all the trash you picked up'. Exploring and leveling up to get stronger was fun but there were no interesting stories or characters in that world to actually make you care about anything. The world felt full of life and lifeless at the same time because of it.

Also dark brotherhood questline? Civil war was so hyped up but was a huge letdown, but the blades thing is above average, not amazing but the meeting and going to sovngarde is really cool. i think that a lot of the dungeon quests can be unique like blackreach and hunting down karliah and mercer frey, and the miraak temple was really sick at the end.

The leveling up and even the gameplay (once you get your footing) is just flat out fun. And the overabundance interesting lore is great. But most of the story, characters, and surprisingly companions are just meh. It might just be the style that Bethesda opts to tell it in, but it doesn’t intrigue me and I always find myself ignoring most of it. That being said, it’s a great game and I’m glad I’ve finally played it.
