We need one of these EVERY SINGLE YEAR
But not in order. He should do 1921 next.
All in favor of a quarterly check in?
Made retroactively,
They said that about the KZhead rewind the first year😅💁🏿♂️
Haha only if they're better than this
“He would axe his own mother if it gave him a tax break.” 😂 I needed that. I can’t stress enough how much I’ve hated David Zaslov this year.
You and me both.
I mean, killing Batgirl? Don't you know there are people on the internet making living by making fun of obviously bad movies? Come on, those dudes have kids and zero actual work experience. Don't you have a heart, David?
He even pulled the plug on "Wile E vs ACME".
@stepanotrisal1512 He should have gotten rid of Flash instead.
@@williamcrowe2576 And then plugged back in when we got angry.
How was Shazam 2 being a feature length Skittles ad not up for best product placement? 😂
I haven't seen t he movie yet, but I do want Skittles now. That's some marketing power there.
@@snukastyle I mean, I'm always down for Skittles
Bc no one saw it except me. And I tasted the rainbow let me tell ya!
Darla and her skittles was honestly the best part of that film. “Taste the rainbow mother f…”
Same could be said for the Gran Turismo movie
Arguing over “who gets more deck chairs on the titanic” is the perfect metaphor for the strikes this year.
Hey, it's not like the strikers were asking for the blood of every Hollywood executive's first born child, they just want a living wage and job security. Plus, this is America, people are always protesting something. Visit Washington DC sometime and count how many people you see with picket signs and bullhorns.
How so?
I had to pause to laugh at that one, brilliant
At this point, it's kind of the perfect metaphor for human civilization.
Shorting has never been so widespread.
How did I watch 1000 hours of streaming shows and miss all of these movies?
Yeah I'm like over here with a pen and paper writing movies down 😄📝
Lol me too
Algorithms. You need to avoid
I forgot most of these even existed. It’s sad how forgettable all these streaming shows and movies are. At least for 100 flops we get one good film tho, or 1 good season before they ruin it or cancel it 😂
I spent most of the year on K-dramas. The One piece adaptation and new season of Hilda were pretty solid. Glad to see Reservation Dogs gets a few seconds of recognition. Just easier to make fun of lackluster mainstream films.
Without this honest trailer so much bad movies would have disappeared in the streaming-void. Thanks a lot!
It still baffles me to this day that Batgirl was not allowed to be seen, despite Shazam 2 and The Flash being released.
i mean...... they were not THAT bad and i didn't even realyl like either movie but.... whatever
@@JakeGottfriedStudios they were absolutely terrible
@@JakeGottfriedStudios nah, the flash sucked balls big time The only thing I've ever heard about it before the honest trailer/ cinemasins recaps were the microwave baby scene
Yeah, coulda gone for another shitty movie lol
They weren't bad but there's no way in hell that they are better than what Batgirl would've been
Jason Schwartzman had a renaissance era this year too. Scott Pilgrim takes off, Spiderman into the spiderverse, hunger games the ballad of songbirds and snakes and astroid city. That dude is a great actor and I hope to see him more in films in the future
And Quiz Lady too
I think I've grown back into really enjoying Nick cage because even when he doesn't give a fk about the role you can tell he loves being an actor, and anyone who loves their job like that is nice to see
Some of my favorite watches of the last couple years include Willy's Wonderland, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. For Willy's in particular, every moment Cage was on screen was pure gold and every moment focused on other characters was flaming hot garbage.
He gives 110% to every role.
Lack of debt to worry about anymore means he can be more choosy with his roles again. I feel like he hasn't really had a "bad" role in some time. Even gonna take it easy for a bit now.
@@hbdragon88I don't think he knows any other way to be, his engine is just constantly cranking devil fuel
And he can still ACT. He was fantastic in the Colour Out Of Space adaptation a few years ago, and his Cage-ness actually worked perfectly with the Lovecraftian horror. He really nailed when to over- vs under-play a line, and was very creepy for it.
Allison William's should have won the Nepo Baby award for "“All that people are looking for is an acknowledgment that it’s not a level playing field. It’s just unfair”
This was amazing! You know streaming industry is inflated when I haven't heard of 90% of these movies/shows
Can we please turn this into a genuine awards ceremony? I honestly believe an award from Screen Junkies would be coveted at least 78% more than an Oscar. Will Smith would only be granted admission if he consented to wearing a pair of large foam hands, though.
They used to do something called The Screenies every year which was an award style show. I guess this is their way of bringing it back?
Honest to Cthulhu if he starts crowdfunding around this it would take off like celebrities at the mention of Epstein
Question: Physical Media is gone for good only in the West, right? Salesnumbers for Manga still mean something? And if im wrong, follow-up-question: How many times more Manga get sold digital thann physical?
@@loturzelrestaurantIt's nicer to hold a book in hand than a pad and you can be assured that nobody has tampered with the content for whatever reason
@@loturzelrestaurant I mean, maybe if western comics got their act together and started selling and promoting their comics outside of dying comic shops, print media wouldn't be gone for good in the west.
This might be yalls best end of the year wrap up yet
Some of my braincells commited suicide hearing the blacksmith last name explanation.
Same here😂
Thank you for giving Nicole Kidman some much-needed screentime.
With Disney and Warner Bros going downhill Hollywood is gonna need the old-school auteurs more than ever
I BLAME DAVID ZASLAV!
How is Warner Brothers going downhill when Barbie was only 1 out of 2 movies this year to reach one billion dollars?
@@xcellentcreations3312 I blame the woke
@@klimmrUnfortunately that wasn’t enough to offset their other bombs, which really oughta tell you how these companies throw around cash like water.
I blame Superman, David Zaslav, Bob Iger and every other executive ever! 😡
Nicholas Cage is always the winner, no matter what is the competition.
He’s a sexy cat
Thats high praise
@@youreokay7888read it in Abed’s voice for sure
Please give whoever wrote the line “don’t run afoul of the bird community” a shiny nickel
afowl* lol
@@3ffinawesome459 👆👆lolol shiny nickel for you too :)
I may be the only person in the world without Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, etc. All of these jokes flew over my head.
To be fair to Jamie Lee Curtis, she has worked consistently for four decades and her fantastic performances prove she deserves the roles she gets. She is also at this point a bigger star than either of her parents ever were. Very few "nepobabies" have had such consistent and long careers.
I and I think most people have No problem with Napo Babies it's just when they act like they earned everything that bugs people 🙄
Liza Minnelli...
Yeah and she even outright said she got the role in Halloween bc of her mom
@@happinesss2 Never heard it said but I personally believe she got her role in "Operation Petticoat" because of her dad.😀
Oooh. In terms of star wattage, tough to choose between Tony and Jamie Lee tbh.
This was the funniest Honest Trailer I’ve seen in a while! You should do this from here on out.
Question: Physical Media is gone for good only in the West, right? Salesnumbers for Manga still mean something? And if im wrong, follow-up-question: How many times more Manga get sold digital thann physical? !??
I genuinely need to know more about this mob connected parking lot company that once controlled what are now some of the world's most powerful entertainment studios
Is that where the mob buries the bodies now?
Can’t wait to see y’all do Aquaman 2 when it finally releases.
Me I’m waiting for Wish.
Did you hear about the feces on the bed? Amber heard...
There was an Aquaman 1?
It's not out?
@@unclenogbad1509 yeah… came out years ago. Grossed over a billion for DC. One of their last profitable movies.
"you're forcing us to socialize" I felt that.
That end with our terrible politicians was amazing

Thank God we might actually get to vote for Nicki Haley thanks to Colorado!
@@Cinemagrins😂😂😂😂

This is the Honest Trailer version of the Screenie Awards you guys used to do with Hal Rudnick and I am soo here for it 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Remember Hal Rudnick? He's back in Pog form.
Brendan Fraiser should have won the Renaissance award
Love Brendan Frazier but The Whale 🐋 was over hyped 🙄😄
Ke huy Quan from Everything everywhere all at once and Loki season two should have at least been nominated for the McConnaisssance category

Please do both Percy Jackson films next week!!! Or anytime that you can!!!
Do it, do it, DO IT!

Next week’s most likely will be a compilation video given that the final one in every year is that.
There are more than one?
Huh.
YES YES YES to a new super chaotic format wrap-up of the year 10/10 so unexpected
Question: Physical Media is gone for good only in the West, right? Salesnumbers for Manga still mean something? And if im wrong, follow-up-question: How many times more Manga get sold digital thann physical?
Still surprised y'all didn't make a Honest Trailer of Renfield, it would be super easy barely an inconvenience
wrong guy!
@@TheRealNormanBates he's the guy from that youtube!
2023's movie releases have also included some outstanding Japanese films. Godzilla: Minus One, The Boy and the Heron and Suzume have all been amazing films👏👏👏.
Yess Suzume was magnificent, I have to admit I cried a lot while watching it
Suzume was mediocre. The man is just rehashing your name to make easy money
This is unironically the best year Japan has had since Kurosawa was alive holy crap.
So when are we getting an animated bird movie, with ALL the voices performed by Awakfina and Alan Tudyk
Nah, all the birds will be voiced by Aquafina. Alan will voice a leaf on the wind.
@@Starsaber222 Sounds like it'd make a perfect CIA interrogation device.
That last bit about politics makes you realize how screwed we really are in the ole U.S. of A.
This depressed the hell out of me even while I was laughing; the thought of really good movies and TV shows disappearing is AWFUL
Question: Physical Media is gone for good only in the West, right? Salesnumbers for Manga still mean something? And if im wrong, follow-up-question: How many times more Manga get sold digital thann physical?
The rest of humanity can’t hear you over all the TikTok dances and Morb memes.
Every one of the awards this year was a huge plot twist. It must’ve been incredibly difficult to subvert our expectations that way!
Actually it was … super easy! Barely an Inconvenience!!! (Someone needed to say it) = )
5:34 How was Matpat's cameo in FNAF not even on the docket?!
Funny, entertaining, meaningful and overall thoughtful. Thank you for this 2023 screen junkies, big big thank you. It was a rough year and I could always count on you to lighten my face. Most dependable award: You!
Why is Awakfina's agent just so damn eager to get her into any voice over role that is open? I don't even think it's out of passion for the style, I think it's just because it's the easiest thing for her to do. She's even got at least a half-dozen more VA roles coming in 2024 already confirmed in Kung Fu Panda 4 and IT alone.
*IF
Because it’s a nice paycheck or a day or two of work.
@@erakfishfishfish Oh yeah, I know that much. It's still weird how frequent it has been. Most big name actors at least put a year or so between stuff like that but her? She's been so oddly consistent for a "big name".
To be fair, she does also have a super-distinctive voice, and is very expressive when she speaks. So it’s a pretty good fit for voiceover work.
Same thing could be said about Chris Pratt 🙄 I'm a fan of both but come on there in everything 😂
If this is the new alternative to the “annual” Screenie Awards, then I’m here for it!
Question: Physical Media is gone for good only in the West, right?
@@loturzelrestaurant LOL no, physical media is gone here in India too, and we literally have 20 film industries that make like 1000 movies a year. The only viable option of media ownership is piracy. Streaming is here to stay
At least we got to see the two best Batman actors make a return in one year: Michael Keaton and Pete Holmes.
@guyvizard549 Gavin Blake double stomps on all Batmen.
4:34 She should go for scripted interviews from now on
4:02- I saw the trailer for this in theatres a bunch of times but don't ree=member it actually being released
The closest to the discontinued Screenies, thank you!
This year proved that we can be fine without Hollywood
Just imagine the awesome story material we could get out of a post-Hollywood LA. A horrific, toxic wasteland, inhabited only by the most self-obsessed and greedy humans to have ever existed... And then their biggest source of income fucks off!
No it just showed that Hollywood is getting consumed by itself and has lost its mind
The highlight of my year was that I didn't even hear about most of those. A toast, to the death of Hollywood!
I keep forgetting D&D came out this year. ...BOY it's been a long year. XD
I thought it was _funfunfunfunfun_
I want to see an honest trailer for all the honest trailers you did this year.
Good idea.
That's what I thought this was going to be.
The Skittles moment in Shazam could've also been a nominee for this year's best or (worst?) product placement.
Did she really say you become a blacksmith BECAUSE your name was vlck/Smith, when everyone over the age of 12 knows its the other way around? How tf did she pass grade 2, let alone? Ya I'm thinking she totally deserves the job she got!
Definitely do this yearly. And just every once in awhile for different types of films like genres (idk). I just like how y'all did somethin a bit more different than usual and executed it great.
One of the best honest trailers in a long time
In the Matthew McConaughey - naissance award, you forgot to mention the new Hollywood 'It' Girl: Greta Lee - naissance. She was everywhere.
Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt really deserved to be released especially since they were already done and it’s wrong for a studio to cancel a finished film but released failure after failure that wasn’t Barbie
I can honestly say, my family and I did NOT go to theaters once this year.....and it was great 😅
Seriously at this point theater's should play episodes of shows like season finale for example or marathons of shows
and the award for best film of 2023 is… Honest Trailers | The Year 2023
Thank you for another great year Screen Junkies and Epic Voice Guy
The ending title had so many puns it felt like a hbomberguy video could be made about unpacking all of them.
There's no industry that doesn't have nepotism in it and if you're the child of talented people, there might not be a guarantee that you'll also be talented, but there's a certainty that you'll pick up something.
3:00 IKR? I like akwafina, but she's been appearing in a lot of movies lately since The bad guys. It's getting bizarre

I think it’s so damn funny that Candy Cane Lane was nominated for the Nic Cage “Keep it on in the Background” award because I literally hooked up with a woman while that was playing in the background. Neither one of us knew what the Hell the movie was about after an hour. 😂😂
You missed 30 seconds and lost track of the entire plot??
@@samuel5591 30 seconds, plus a nap.
The funny thing is that Video Game Adaptations, the one category usually cursed, got their best year with The last of Us, Super Mario, Five Nights at Freddy and we can even add Dungeons and Dragons even though it is a boardgame. We are truly living in a weird era.
I am expecting E.T. 2: The Return and When Harry Met Sally Again to be the biggest hits of 2024!
Well, it sure was a tough couple of months for actors and writers. But thank god they eventually convinced the studios to be more fair to them and made it work
Fair would have been firing all those hacks.
"I couldn't afford a new private jet this year. I'm underpaid"

You finally showed a great show in Reservation Dogs on Hulu at 6:03
They need to do an Honest Trailer of Reservation Dogs.
Well done. I was apprehensive to click on this for some reason like getting in the shower, but when I got in, it was warm and fuzzy and delightful.
I had the same feeling 😉
But it made me feel UNCLEAN. Must. Wash. Hollywood. OFF.
Best thing of 2023 is Godzilla Minus One!
"Airforce-- Helicopter 1" had me rolling.
Well, my plan to link every honest trailer made in 2023 to Flash Gordon in 6 degrees clearly didn't work. So this last one is just for fun: Jon Bailey (Honest Trailers) -> Jon Cena (Bumblebee) -> Mark Wahlberg (Daddy's Home 2) -> Sam Jones (FLASH GORDON) Happy holidays, guys. Thanks for continuing to keep us smiling.
This is such a great idea for a yearly video from y’all!
Awesome. Could you do "Big Trouble in Little China" next year? Also could you say "It ain't happening, like a loaf of bread" in your epic voice?
I really liked the Haunted Mansion honestly, it at least felt like there was some genuine heart in it
And this year's winner for "Movie That Was Actually Unironically Really Good": "Godzilla Minus One"!
This was delightful. Thanks Screen Junkies!
Funny how between this and 2020 how we’re getting trailers for years 😅 (To be fair we live in crazy times!;)
2023 was the year I didn't go to a cinema, not even once, and the year I rewatched a lot of old movies, like Dirty Harry.
Definitely need an Honest Trailer for Godzilla Minus One soon!
This was my worst year ever. I'm scared for 2024😭!
That was so funny! I'm always in awe of how witty these videos are, but your writers have just outdone themselves! 😊 Realising how that comment is so earnest it almost sounds sarcastic, but that is just because I myself am not a good writer or very witty 😅
When a indie animation about a circus is better then 99% of Disney movies nowadays
Thank you for highlighting I missed nothing by avoiding all these shows this year.
The best honest trailer of all time 0:52 This started the writers strike, I binge watch bupkis on peacock 1:25 The man who help and cancelled scoob holiday haunt. 2:11 I seen every movie on disney+ and wish is a great movie 2:27 Look I'm sorry I didn't binge the idol on max staring the weekend. 2:45 the little mermaid was best live action disney movie 3:17 You know the barbie movie had better product placement 3:49 You know family switch is great christmas movie, nicki cage please. 5:33 John cena in a barbie movie I mean cmon
It all feels like a one giant nightmare at this point
1:18 savage hahaha
Now I need to make a list of all the movies mentioned in this video, add them to a "will watch" to do list, and never watch them
Well, the industry could have hit some really big lows this year, but if history teaches me something is that when you have reached rock bottom, theres nowhere to go but up.
History has taught me that you NEVER reach rock bottom. You can always go lower.
Just remember there is no trampoline at the bottom. You can always hit rock bottom and just stay there.
You can always still go six feet under.
If you've hit rock and can't dig any deeper then that's when you start drilling.
What about sideways?
A video like this every year would be perfect. This may make Hollywood and the studios accountable for what they release on streaming and movies.
Accountable, really?😂 Do you think they care?🤣
Totally criminal that the awesomeness of Across the Spiderverse was never mentioned in this video.
Honest trailers and Jon Bailey make my day any day. Laughter is the best medicine.
Spider-Verse really did the hard carry for all movie theaters ever this year, huh?
Once Beyond hits, it’ll be one of the most perfect trilogies to ever exist.
The end of physical media is terrifying and maddening. It also makes no sense when you have a finished movie to not release it.
This has to be the best honest trailer I've seen. And I've been following you guys since the very beginning. 👏 👏
