  • I was afraid this was just a hair style video but was happy to learn it's much more. Thank you for going into detail about hair types, what to look for in products to use with them, what blow dryer attachment to use with them, and to even use a blow dryer in the first place. The practical advice made for some great content.

  • I used to have shoulder length hair in my mid 20s and loved it until it got to be a little too much to manage. My problem was that I didn’t know how to manage it. I have dark, thick wavy hair and I could definitely use some suggestions for products and advice on daily maintenance because I would like to try growing it back out.

  • Great video! Would you think about doing a similar video as this one but for skin care? I wasn't taught good skin care as a child and I'm sure many men aren't and in my 20's i am just lost on how to start taking care so that not only i can improve my skin but make sure it lasts well going into my old age. No time like the present to start. Appreciate all the info!!

  • If you have thick straight hair and want to grow it out, i'd suggest getting drop fades with a side part until it can be styled into a nice flow. Also, using leave-in conditioner also helps with the health of your hair and prevention of split ends. I grew my hair out for 14 months and didn't see a single split-end. For the first 3 months i'd suggest using Pomadde and from months 3-6 i'd suggest Sea Salt Spray. Then after 6 months you should focus on the health of your hair since now it's long enough to never have a bad hair day, and then maybe at 9 months you should see a barber who works has alot of experience with cutting longer hair and getting a trim that evens out your hair with the top, sides, & back, and also cleanup the neckline. For Shampoo & Conditioner i use Desert Escence Coconut based Shampoo & Conditioner. Also, i'm pretty certain diet plays a role in how healthy hair is too, so eat clean & well.

  • I grew my hair and noticed two things. 1. products that cater to your hair type goes along way especially when you don't want to use a blow dryer. 2. Getting yourself a good barber that can consult well with the style/ length you want to achieve (: Communication is key, soo pictures and a conversation goes along way!

  • I have thick straight hair and used to have hair as long as yours. I cut it a few years ago, but I've used a blow dryer for years and other dudes think it's weird. I think it's the bees knees. I can get my whole body completely dry super quick and it adds that volume. Up until recently, I would spike my hair up like I did in the 90s lol. I had long hair for so long, that was the only style I knew! I started doing more of a side part now, similar to like Ted lasso is the best way I can describe it, because I started realizing wearing suits to work every day and spiking my hair really didn't look my age. Now I get more compliments and look more professional and my age. The blow-dryer is the trick for the great volume I get!

  • I'm a guy with long, thick, curly hair that people just LOVE (I do too) but it's been a struggle learning how to handle it. I have several sisters but all their advice and hair tips have been disastrous for me. Lol Sometimes you just have to experiment and learn what works for you through trial and error. I might give this scalp massager a try though cause that sounds like it could be a life saver for my hair, as a guy in my mid 30's, I stress constantly about eventually possibly losing my beautiful locks. lol

  • I've been having my hair cut by the same barber since my first haircut ever. I get a high taper with a 1 on the sides and just a light trim on top and I literally just tell him to clean up the top and he knows exactlyhow much to cut for me to style it. I've done the short sides long on top and I either do an oldschool come over or some other styles with my hair. I did that in middle school and was the kid who got made fun of for having styled hair. I did it before it was cool😂😂😂😂😂

  • I have been keeping my hair in a pony tail for years because it made me look "professional", according to my mom. Now that I have let it down, people have been complimenting it constantly. I have a blow dryer, but I mostly use my heat iron and electric hair brush. It's mostly because I want it damp in under an hour. It's a little amusing when people ask how I style it. I laugh and tell them I don't. I can spend an hour with a straightener and the moment it dries it goes back vavoom.

  • Don't get the combination of shampoo and conditioner. Always go separate, control the variables better that way. I have wavy, thick and dark hair, so I go for anything that prevents splittage and just keeps the oils and keratin in proper condition. Also, use conditioner on your beards, work it in and really just go ham on it all.

  • I had to click on and watch this, Courtney, because, well....I'm subscribed and generally like your videos, but this doesn't in any way apply to me. As an older male, I've been through many different hair styles, from halfway down my back to very conservative short styles. Several years ago, I tired of keeping my "fine" hair unmessy in the wind and elements, and I went to a "buzzed" look. It's one length (about 1/2") all over, and care-free. NO bed-head in the morning, and I don't have to worry about going outside. Since I don't have to worry about what women think (involuntary MGTOW) that doesn't really apply. As a side note, I'm strongly attracted to women with very short, pixie-style hair. Never been with anyone who also had buzzed hair, but I find it VERY appealing. (and yes, I'm strictly heterosexual) Those of you who still wear longer hair, I'm still amusedly sympathetic. If you can get over the "hair vanity" (both men and women) you would find it wildly liberating. Thanks again Courtney.

  • I'm a redhead with weird hair. My hair is long and straight, but likes to adopt a wavy pattern towards the ends, and unfortunately hair loss does run in my family. I bought vanidox carbonic acid shampoo and conditioner. I can't tell if it's helping my hair regrow but it does leave my hair smooth and silky, and my scalp does feel ok. I'll add a scalp massager like the video suggested and see how that goes.

Granted now, I live and work in a rural enough environment where I can do this. Probably not gonna work for office workers. Also... I think an interesting experiment for men would be growing their hair longish and experimenting with different product if they don't know how they work or that they're typed for.

    • I've had long hair since I was 13ish and I'm 41 now. I have never cut mine and probably never will. Keep it trimmed, using shampoo and conditioners that work well with your hair type. If you're one of those guys that's comfortable wtih it and you have a good stylist, let them shape it for you. Not saying wear curls and all that, but layers and shaping the bottom, while a little bit feminine, looks really nice on men too. The most common complain I get from women is that I have nicer hair than they do. Also know your leave in conditioners.

  • As for me, I actually don't really know what "type" of hair that I have and I'm still trying to figure out the best products & the best shampoo/conditioners I need to use for my hair. If I had to take a stab at it, I would guess that my hair is in the "normal" category because I know for damn sure that it's NOT curly. I don't have super fine, super thin or extremely long hair. My hair has a little slight thickness to it so I don't think it's frail, damaged or all that thin. Not too keen on the details but I think my hair is just ordinary, average & normal. Usually I can style my hair without even using gels or styling products so it usually stays in place. I think my hair is straight & not really all that wavy but I do have a little volume without even using a blow drier. I don't really need or even use hair products such as gels or hairsprays but I do use them from time to time. I have used them occasionally in the past for a spikey or comb-over type of look. When I'm on a budget, I save money by neglecting to go to the Barber by letting my hair grow out. When I do let my hair grow out it has that shaggy "Justin Bieber" type of look that overlaps my ears & gives me bangs on my forehead to my eyebrows. Some friends & family like that look on me & then others in my life hate it so when I have a little more money, I take a trip to the Barber & usually ask for a "Fade" haircut while keeping a couple inches on top for styling. My hair usually isn't a problem because 90% of the time I can get it & keep it how I want it. I tend to get more compliments when I choose to go for the "spikey" look because more women respond to that hairstyle on me. Apparently it seems to be good for my "face shape", my large pointy nose (beak) & my other facial features. I'm still in the learning process of how to care for my hair & keeping it healthy. I think I may need to look into using a hair dryer more often, investing in that "scalp massager" featured in the video, using a couple more products to add more volume & then possibly finding a better shampoo/conditioner situation to keep my hair healthy. Honestly, I'm a little more concerned about my scalp than my actual hair because I think I've developed psoriasis on the back of my neck & other parts of the scalp on my head. I have a dry scalp & I think I may have developed a skin disease so sometimes it's difficult to manage but I'm convinced it's probably psoriasis or eczema, who knows? It's weird that it's only concentrated on the back of my neck & my scalp but not any other part of my body. Not a whole lot of problems associated with my hair but most definitely my scalp. I'm excited to devoting more of my time to taking care of & learning more about my hair though. I would like to take steps on how to improve the overall Health of my hair though. Can you help me Courtney? :)

I’ve got the thinning M starting as I get older and I want to grow my hair while I still can. Im super self conscious about thinning hair and I’ve tried using different products and one of them with coconut oil made my acne return on my forehead after being clear for year so now that makes me super self conscious. 2022 has just been a brutal year of experimenting with hair products as I try style it to look somewhat nice but now making my hair look good isn’t as big of an issue as acne which is hilarious cuz never thought I would look like a 30 year old 13 year old with the worst qualities of each

  • In general, hot air blow dryer damages every hair type. So does using shampoo every single day. I personally use a blow dryer only if it's cold outside and I'm in a hurry. If I don't sweat too much, I wash my hair three or four times a week. At the age of 25, I'm very careful about my hair because my father was almost completely bald at the age of 20. I have thick wavy/curly hair that can be styled only when it's wet. If I blow dry til the end, it gives me too much volume and looks like as if I were in the 1980s. My mom likes it, and that's one more reason not to do it.

  • Ha! At 51, I am blessed with my genetics and have a full head of hair with no real grey. Women are always shocked when they find out my age. Though my hair never got me lucky :D

  • Don't you have to be careful when scrubbing your scalp? Not too much pressure and not enough pressure?

  • I have nice thick hair. I comb it well, but probably should blow dry it.

  • Why don’t you use a blow dryer with product? I use Pete and Pedro shampoo and conditioner . A pomade right now but debating if I want to grow it out and just get an EDGE. But these barbers for a simple cut like that is like 35-40$

  • I thought using a hot blow dryer will do more damage to the hair over time than help the style, no?

  • Ask your stylist how to style it. It always looks great after you get it cut but once you get home and go to work the next day you can't get it to look the same unless you know how they did it.

  • 1. Quality haircut. Without that the rest will be more difficult 2. Shampoo: Kérastase Densifique. Currently using a leave-in conditioner by Mixed Chicks 3. Blow dryer: anything from Rusk. I like the W8less. 4. Round brush: 1/4” to 1” 5. Product: something reputable. Redken/Bumble n Bumble $$$. Not Your Mother’s $. I like Redken Aerate 08 and their Triple Dry 15 texture spray. Biggest mistake I see is using too much product. It will only weigh your hair down. Most KZhead tutorials are selling their products and therefore show them taking out a huge glob, when a pea size amount is enough for most. Lock in with texture spray.
