  • I finally realized why this movie is so amazing, It is just a movie of two girls enjoying time with kind and loving creature enjoying the world together. There is no protagonist or antagonist, or any horrible events that cause you to worry too much. You just enjoy Totoro and the girls together. Truly an amazing movie.

  • Feels incoming So, when I was a little kid, my mother got me into Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Ponyo. I loved this movie as a kid and I would watch it almost every other week. It was when I turned about 10 that I forgot about the movie. Now, about a year ago I had a dream about this movie. I woke up and started crying from nostalgia, thinking about my childhood, this movie, and everything came back so suddenly. I had to stay up all night to find this song, and when I did I cried. To this day, I still cry everytime I hear this song. If you are still here, thank you, it means a lot. Always keep your childhood close to you.

    • Wolfeasy Hey,I should thanking you for make my day better after this. I was hooked for the first time when I was watching the walking castle (I forgot) recommended by my great grandfather who also watch the older movie like the grave of fireflies,Spirited Away and Kiki Delivery Service. Now I'm undergoing to living alone since my parents already giving a green light to make sure I'm gonna be fine after all. And god how I watched your comment invoked so many feeling and memories about how's our childhood is simple back then.Playing Pokémon Platinum with my Torterra at level 70 and my trustees Gardevoir who also fought with me at 6 Elite, and so many great cartoon and anime back then too.Gundam Wing is lit too. Then,Ghibli Studio came around and me and my great grandfather watched this from morning till noon and shared the laughs together. I'm sure I will keep my childhood close to my heart because I just want to enjoys it once more and you better enjoyed it too. May the wind guide you,my bro.

  • Those little girls in this movie and father too went through a sad time. Worrying about their mother. Tortoro comes and helps the children. The scene when growing the trees made me tear up. And I'm a big guy but this scene always gets me. Because it's so beautiful. The gentle creature that is tortoro and the little girls that sorta look up to him. This movie needs to be brought back. Now I didn't watch in the credits but the mom does get better and looks like the two girls have siblings. This movie is beautiful.

Totoro reminds me of Appa from Avatar even though I’ve never seen the movie. They both seem like gentle creatures. My Neighbor Totoro somehow reminds me of Mulan in a way even though they are pretty much the exact opposite.

Music is one of the only things that can make me feel a roller coaster of emotions. I first saw this movie when I was three, and it is still to this day the most beautiful film I've ever seen. • I think i know now why I cry when hearing Path of the Wind. It's because of the loss of our childhood. The loss of imagination, of being carefree, of not worrying about heartbreak, bills, jobs, etc. We, even at our worst moments, were just full of life and youth. Adulthood changes everything and I mourn for those lost days. But, we still have the Path of the Wind to bring us back to our younger days.

    • Ashley Chan I'm the same author as the comment. The reason why I said this is because Japanese society has increasingly been Westernized, so that Japanese cultural expressions from its past, like music, appear less and less. For instance, a good portion of recent anime has shown a tendency to emphasize Rock music and use settings that don't have anything to do with Japan.

  • Sad incoming When i was a child i watched this movie like no tomorrow, i knew it by memory and always watched it with my family, mostly my father. I have to tell tho, my mother and father werent a happy marriage but my father always got me presents to make me not pay attention to that. My father bought some totoro limited editon figurines straight from japan and i didnt know why but he hid them, i knew where thwy were but i didnt play with them because they seemed important. I have to recall that my father always was good to me and loved me with all his heart, we played with legos and built papercraft houses, but he changed. Since the divorce he started to get distant and strict, he wasnt him anymore, he got a new spouse and married her (she is great tho) and didnt even told me, she gave birth to my new sister and it seems that she is loved even more than me but im happy for her. When we moved out with my mom to the other part of the country we didnt see eachother that much, but in one of my vacations there, he gave me the figurines, he had saved them for me. I wanted to cry and hug him, but he is not the same person anymore, but the memories were still there, he isnt caring anymore but i still love him. I just wanted to say, that i love you dad, even if you dont love me anymore, you are not the same anymore, but i still love you, and would be happy if you just told me that everything is gonna be ok and that you love me. I just want to be happy again you know?

  • I know this story will go amid all the other comments, but it's mine and i still want to share with all the fellow humans who are interested. This movie has played an extremely important role in my life. Ever since my dad introduced me and my younger sister to it, one far summer evening when we were little, both of us immediately loved it. We watched it during lunch and dinner, whenever we were in the car ready for a new trip, every time we were on a holiday. We used to pretend to be satsuki and mei and look for totoro and all the other wonderful creatures in our aunt's house in the countryside. I turn 18 in a few months and right now it's really hard for me to see this movie again, unlike the others from studio ghibli. Just hearing the voice of the two little girls brings me back to all those smiles, the amazing adventures, the places we have explored and the ones we haven't. But most of all it breaks me because I miss how things used to be and how my family overall was much happier. Even though my sister is now almost 15 i still tend to take care of her as satsuki does for mei, and i believe that despite the years passing this is the only costant thing that will last forever. This music is the anthem of my childhood: it makes me think that although i am the one who leads the way, she is my light and i could not walk this path without her.

    • Your story made me smile. After all, when I was little, I also tried to find something mysterious and amazing. And I still believe that there is something amazing that people have not yet been able to find. God created what we can see, and there is what he has closed from us. Who knows, maybe somewhere in the forest there lives a big and kind animal, which we have not met before.

  • My Neighbour Totoro was the first studio ghibli movie I ever watched, and as a kid who preferred more action packed stuff, most of the movie flew over my head. I adored the catbus scenes, sure, and I was always paying attention when totoro was on screen, but the rest sort of... fuzzed our to me. So when I revisited it recently.... boy, totoro hits different. I lost my dad about a year ago to cancer, and seeing those little girls experience the emotions that I experienced (what if they never come home?)... ghibli has a very real way of showing these things. I’m glad that they got their happy ending.

  • this song is basically my childhood. I remember sitting in front of the tv and waiting for my neighbour totoro to start. Apart from spirited away, it was and is still one of my favourite movies. There is something magical in these films only children are able to understand and even though I don't quite know what the most fascinating part is, I can see the magic. Therefore path of the wind will always catapult me back to the dozen times I've watched this movie when I was a child.

While it didn’t have a huge plot, it was a serene and tranquil experience to say the least. It was… a journey. Just the feelings I got from this song alone made me tear up thinking about it the ride home. It feels like aim coming home for the first time after being away. Thanks Miyazaki.

We rented it from a movie store in Michigan that has long since gone out of business, but after returning it I begged and begged my parents to buy it for me for my birthday for eleven years. They never could find it or so they said at the time. When dvds started coming out, I resumed my search for it. Just recently I was able to find it in Walmart, in between the firs time I saw it and now, my parents got divorced, my mom got remarried to my dad's best friend now my stepdad, my sister, who is six years older than me and was told she might not ever have kids because of a yeast infection, has been married and divorced twice, and had my nephew during her second marriage, before my nephew was born, my Real dad died of respiratory failure complications during the swine flu epidemic on the 8th of January, my nephew was born later in March of that same year. That's a lot to cover. Oh and before my dad died, a few years before that actually I graduated from high school, wrecked my first car, then Dad died my nephew is now 4, then After I think three years I got my first job and my second car, then to start breaking into the fashion business, I just recently altered a dress for a little girl of a friend of my sister's and also for a bonus, the same friends wedding dress for the big day and she has given me rave reviews. 😅 phew! Well since I got My Neighbor Totoro, I have started collecting the Studio Ghibli movies and am reliving those happier moments of my childhood before everything went sour and pear shaped. The movies I have so far are My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, The Wind Rises, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.

  • The thing about Joe Hisaishi's music and Hayao Miyazaki's movies is no matter the age they make you feel young again and it is always magical each time you watch it and hear them. That is why it is a masterpiece because all things in life lose magic one day as we grow but these films will never lose what makes them magical.

  • I lost my one and only, this used to be her favourite. She loved every single studio ghibli animation and that love made me fall for it even harder. Now I sit in my room listening to this, it’s been a year and I am still here. The 7 years worth of memories are still implanted in my mind, heart, and soul. Never heard anything as beautiful as this. I could never love again because my heart only knows of one love. That one person i could never be cold towards as she showed the true warmth in heart. Tears are relentlessly flowing and yet I am still here living in the shadows of that love. It used to be me and her against the world, now half of my world is missing. If you’re seeing this, I will forever be in love you issa

  • When I used to live in Japan, I would watch Totoro everyday after I came home from school as a kid, and I never got tired of it. I felt like I was living two worlds, my ordinary world and this other indescribable world when watching Totoro. I remember I had a dream that I saw Chū-Totoro and Chibi-Totoro playing outside of my backyard, but when I went outside to play with them, they slowly faded away. But then, I saw Totoro on his spinning top slowly spinning side to side, but then he flew away. I wish I could have played with them. Totoro was really a huge part of my childhood. It brings back nostalgia to when I had nothing to worry about. I will always have a big space in my heart for Totoro.

  • My girlfriend recently showed me this movie and I've been in love with it. Last night I showed it to my niece and nephew and we watched it twice in a row. I just got them to sleep a while ago and this song got stuck in my head I'm drinking wine and vibing to it 💕

  • The first time I watched this movie was a trip tbh. It was super late at night on a weekend and I was home alone. My family had been meaning to watch it with me, as they all had, but we were all busy with work and school, so we never had time to. I decided right then to watch it on the tv in my kitchen. I made a little bed with a couple chairs, got a snack, some blankets, and started watching. I’m pretty sure I was in seventh grade, and I was super stressed. I was a terrible student, I even had 14 missing assignments at one point. I was doing better at this point, but constantly thinking I had missed something. I was still worrying at the beginning of the movie, but as it continued, my stress began to melt away as I followed the story of this family and a big, sleepy, gentle, kind brute. All this movie is is wholesome, and not many movies are like that. This movie is beautiful. Anyway, I’m gonna get back to my AP human geography homework.
