On this week’s episode on The Overlap we are joined by British boxer Chris Eubank Jr days before he enters the ring to fight Liam Smith.
Revealed as the biggest fight of his life, we sit down to talk with Chris as he eyes revenge having suffered just his third professional defeat in 35 bouts to Smith in January 2023.
Chris Jr doesn’t hold back on speaking about his upbringing and his relationship with his former World Champion boxing father Chris Eubank Sr.
Chris also discusses the impact of the heart-breaking loss of his brother Sebastian and how his perspective of life has altered since the bereavement.
Lastly, we focus on Chris Eubank Jr’s career so far and how huge his fight against Smith will be at the Manchester Arena on September 2nd 2023.

  • First time I’ve ever listened to Chris talk and have to say he has a fan in me after this. The way he defended his father showed what a high level of integrity and decency the man has and the that has to be due at least somewhat to his father.

  • Been massively misunderstood this fella from the get go. Ever since the channel 5 days it’s been about trying to create a reputation and be talked about like his old man. It’s about entertainment nothing more and boxing needs characters like this to survive. Love him or hate him that’s fine but you just need to understand him. It’s just entertainment nothing more his father understood that, Jnr is trying to carry on the legacy in his own right. Boxing is far worse off without these sort of characters in the sport.

  • Genuinely you can see a good person inside of him, the respect for the sport, his family is fantastic. I would actually like to see him win a world title for his own piece of mind and all the dedication that’s gone into it. Good luck to both fighters Saturday night! Chris is a guy that has had to deal with a lot of pressure, family circumstances that have been tragic in some instances and he still comes across as a well spoken guy who seems to have no fear. Whether you love him or hate him. I believe just like his father when all is said and done he will finally get respect for all he has put into the sport. Whether he wins or not against Liam, I know he will give it his all. Respect.

  • Brilliant interview. I completely agree with Chris about the ‘abuse thing’ Back in the 90’s it was how we were disciplined. It was the norm to us 80’s kids. Mess up- get a whack!   • Never been a Eubank hater as love that they're different and, largely I suspect, true to themselves. Not every son can match their father's achievements and Snr set a ridiculously high bar but Jnr is game and tough so deserves every respect. Personalities make boxing better and there's no denying the Eubanks have been great in that regard! I was impressed with Smith and he is the better technician but I won't be surprised if Chris Jnr takes it on a late stoppage.
