  • I wasn't surprised Krejcikova got the win. I was fortunate enough to see Krejcikova v. Muguruza in the Dubai final; she hits a big, heavy ball, especially off the forehand wing, yet has the ability to add some really great touch/variety too.

    • And it wasn't the best match she played at Dubai. Her shots weren't as long and deep as they had been up to that point, and that allowed Garbiñe to hit back with more confidence - also Muguruza is one of those players who doesn't mind generating her own power on shots.

    • No question....Gauff has a lot to learn to start winning tight matches from quarterfinals on. She has a talent to go far but the unnecessary pressure is getting to her. That's why you don't tell a 15 year old she's the next Serena.

  • Krejcikova game is a delicatessen for the tennis gourmands and conossieur`s (if those words actually exist) even when she plays doubles you can listen to the commentators/former players praise her natural strokes and her smooth volley`s over the other three competitors on court (unless Hsie is on as well). Anyways, the Chezch Republic keeps on producing fascinating players with beautiful games and charming personalities on the WTA Tour.

  • As much as i love women's tennis since 2000s, it's been hard to keep up with. You barely have a favorite to root for. I thought Osaka was the one, but now her career seems at risk. Every grand slam is a jeopardy and the final rounds looks like a third round or so.

    • I think naomi should be fine, i mean she is the only young player at the moment with 4 grand slams. For sure she needs to improve greatly in grass and clay, but she is by far the best hardcourt player at the moment

    • I don’t see how that’s a bad thing. The talent pool is very deep in women’s tennis which is why there hasn’t been a single dominant player since Serena in her prime. If you’re not a bandwagonist it’s not difficult to root for who you like.

    • It wasn't totally unexpected. Played a different tennis this year. More mistakes, close sets and service was letting her down. Playing doubles usually helps but when you're out there everyday.... something's gotta give.

    • @@nubonsteroid9371 I hear you but that top ten fluctuates so often I could get whiplash trying to keep up but yeah Barty and other top players either didn't enter the tournament or were not right physically but all you can do is play who's in front of you and if Sakkari closes the deal her slam will count as much as anybody else's . I'm a fan of Iga too but that girl took it to her today and she deserves full credit for that

    • @Marek: something’s gotta give when you play doubles? You realise that Krejcikova is actually in the doubles semifinals as well? And lost in the mixed quarterfinals? Until the recent selfish, pampered generations who only think of themselves, it was completely normal for the top stars of the women to play doubles as well in every grand slam tournament. Never seemed to be a problem. But then the me-me-me generation took over and ditched doubles because they only wanted to focus on themselves.

  • It was obvious from the first game that Coco wasn't on it. As on many previous occasions, she was blighted by nerves. On the bright side though, despite having only just turned 17 she is now 9th in the live race to Shenzhen. No one else under 20 is in the top 35. It isn't rocket science to work out where she is heading!

    • @@stormyweather9917 Swiatek had had a medical time-out therefore was playing injured, & looking @ Gauff playing incredibly against Jabeur, she simply had an off-day......which I know the feeling of, suddenly you just have a bad day even though you've been playing brilliantly up until then. With Gauff having beaten Sakkari recently, I am unenthusiastic about a final involving Sakkari. It is my opinion the best players are not going thru to the final.

  • Coco is the most improved player and currently the best young player in the world by a mile so it may be wrong to criticise her but I am not a big fan of her forehand and I doubt that it will win her a slam, but we shall see... She only hits it with topspin and does not get her racket head travelling through her FH shot... Her BH is great and her serve is tremendous though!
