They kept winning because the playing field was never even. The congress party took power from the British and thus did not exercise power even resembling any way that a democracy should run. The congress party used much of the same methods in the first half century after independence as well. The brutal subjugation of the public through bureaucracy, educational indoctrination, promoting divisions on the basis of religion and caste (Rahul Gandhi is trying to revive this even today in 2024) etc. People like Mr Kidwai are not the rational well wishers of the "Grand old party" that have been sidelined as they'd have us believe, they're just an earlier set of sycophants who've been pushed aside by a new bunch of sycophants.

Hello Barkha, interesting conversation. Thank you. My take away: Rahul & Priyanka - due to unfortunate family incidents - were home schooled and don’t have a world view. They were saddled with educated and experienced people in the congress who were selfish, self obsessed and to fortify their own Position, did not advise Rahul and Priyanka well. This allowed the Gandhi Kids to drive the congress party to the ground. The congress party may have been a key facilitator in the independence movement, but the blame is squarely on them to also kill Opposition movement completely. They have effectively killed democracy in India. Even at 53, Rahul cannot introspect and cannot put the country ahead of himself is very very sad. He ALONE must take responsibility for the mess this is!!!!!

Hi Barkha, Thanks for the video, really enjoyed the conversation. My takeaways from the video is: i) Communication is everything in politics. What, how, when, with whom are the essential questions and how can a person be very convincing. ii) I have a feeling, that the Congress which is deeply socialist should come out of the socialism bubble and accept that capitalistic societies (with sufficient regulation) can make sustained progress in the long run. The Congress promises of Caste Census and Apprenticeship is utterly disastrous but might well have takers. I have a request for you, can you do a members podcast where there can be like a discussion between few members moderated by you. This will allow to get some views and ideas of what normal Tom and Harry like me think.

Only sane people support a leader for his character and genuine intentions. Rahul Gandhi is an example of how good people have no foothold in a corrupt system. I was a staunch Congress supporter. But with the passing away of Rajiv Gandhi, the rot set in. Nehru was an intellectual. A great author. His daughter, Indira, was a fearless leader. I was head over heels in love over Rajiv Gandhi. We were really proud to have such a handsome PM, who had a vision of modern India. No comments on his brother, Sanjay. That was it. The present members of the Nehru/Gandhi family is berefit of basic common sense. Rahul has turned out to be a joker. What is tragic is that they don't want to hand over the reins to other deserving leaders in the party. Now look at the progress card of the BJP under Modiji. It would be best for the opposition to stop finding fault with him. And acknowledge his merits. And support him, in fact.
