It seems to inflate in the manner of a bagpipe, taking on air to fill the sound cavity before letting out the call. Incredible creature, thank you

We have a swamp at the back of our garden, I hear this strange sound literally every 10 minutes in summer :D

Great footage of very rare behaviour, your lucky to able film one in the open and on your own, when I filmed this same behaviour 4 years ago now the spot I was in was just full of very noisy people. Great stuff :)

Heard one at RSPB Ouse Fen in June this year, when it was cloudy. The bird was somewhere in the middle of the reedbed section of the reserve (it is very large compared to most reserves I have been to), and I could hear it all over the reedbed section. They are known as Britain's loudest bird for a reason.
