  • 🌹 I’m glad there was a comfort read available to you after having to say goodbye to your beautiful elderly cat. It is never easy but kitty cuddles and comfort reads can hep in the immediate aftermath. Also glad to hear you and your discord reading buddies are enjoying the Vorkosigan books. It is one of my main comfort read series, I love the characters, the rollicking good adventures, and the sense of humour that pervades these books. It is one of the most enjoyable ‘space operas’ I’ve come across. Cetaganda is fun but I try not to think too hard about the kitten tree… poor Ivan…

  • Heck yes for great rereads and new comfort faves. Bride was also such a fun romp for me for exactly the same reasons!! And I picked up What Feasts at Night after your review and also had a blast, I think I enjoyed it even more than the first one because of all the great folkloric elements. My February was full of romance reads, with Tia Williams, Talia Hibbert, and Abby Jimenez bringing me ALL the joy!! 🥰🥰

  • Sorry to hear about your cat, at least their suffering has passed. But glad you read Brisset and got some comfort reads in.

  • I’m tempted to try Bride, no idea if it’d work for me but if the plot is at least fun I think I could like it 🤣

  • 🌹 A highlight was listening to Murderbot Diaries 1-6 twice thru while waiting for 7 from Libby. Also really enjoyed The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware--my brain just needed a fun thriller that didn't require too much work on my part.

  • I'm about half way through Ceteganda right now and I feel the same. Vorkosigan doesn't feel that ground-breaking to me for sci-fi, but it does what it does well and it's fun to see what disaster Miles has to talk himself out of next.

  • I love Vorkosigan! Ivan eventually gets his own book and it's spectacular.

  • I definitely prefer collections to anthologies bc as you say my brain gets fatigued, whereas a collection is in the same author's style, and just adding more information to the same author in my head.

  • I also liked What Feasts at Night more than most from what I have seen. I am curious to see if we will get more in the series!

  • I had a good reading month in February ratings wise, but it didn’t feel that way whilst reading. I also spent time spring cleaning my e-readers (Kindle, Kobo), meaning a lot of ‘try a chapter’ activity and such that I learned from BookTube 😘

  • I have been looking for more SciFi series to get into and im gonna need a lot pf shorter books this month so the Vokkosigan readalong might be exactly what I need 😅

  • So sorry to hear about your kitty. That's beyond rough, thank goodness for reading escapism. Hope you're hanging in there ok. 💙I really want to get to Hundred Thousand Kingdoms this year. The political plot sounds right up my street.

  • 🌹 I really enjoy your channel and especially your enthusiasm for authors like N.K Jemisin. Far Sector was my most recent short fun read . Also love your enthusiasm for (and interview with) Karen Lord (reading Blue, Beautiful Works. Yes-I read the first two). So happy she is longlisted for the Women’s prize. All the best with your classes this term!

  • I enjoyed Bride too 😊 You’re tempting to join on the Vorkosigan read. I did read the first 3 or 4 ages ago and liking them… Let me see - I just want all the books and my brain doesn’t always follow. Also, big hug. Loosing a beloved pet is horrendous. They’re our family 🥰

  • You have me intrigued to try Hundred Thousand Kingdoms! And Vorkosigan sounds like a great time! And yeah Way of Kings does just hit so hard, and I’m looking forward to my reread of them all this year.

  • Bride also had my favorite female lead as well of her books. I also enjoyed the plot and could have used more angst in the romance.

  • what do you mean you need to read malazan again? all the books up to reaper's gale 😳 that sounds exhausting... look, there's a really good podcast (I think) called 'ten very big books', where they recap and discuss all the books in excruciating detail. One episode of one hour would usually cover 3 chapters of a book. And then at the end of each book there are bonus episodes of interviews with erikson discussing the specific book and a bonus episode to contextualise each book in the whole series, if you have already read the whole of malazan. maybe you could do that instead, I would highly recommend

  • Yeah, Rose/House was very disappointing. :( Tbf, the book had the misfortune of being read while I was ill so that didn't help. Currently reading The Vela (the first one) and idk, I've been slumpy again and barely reading so I'm not that into it. :/
