  • Someone ought to mention that the gimmick of Tediore weapons is that they're so cheaply made that it's more cost effective to discard the entire gun and automatically fabricate a new one than it is to reload it. Also they have a "feature" that causes them to explode when all the ammunition in the magazine is expended.

    • @@spinal_capped Its just abilities that are affecting it. No cheats. For example, the abilities they have enabled here are giving the gun ammo regen, every 4th shot deals fire damage(The red beam) and doesn't consume ammo, and every shot has a 20% chance to explode on the enemy dealing 75% of the gun's damage. These examples would definitely confuse john and he won't be able to understand how the gun actually functions unless they tell him. It would be more convenient to disable the skill tree and turn off mayhem mode. That way, its not as chaotic and confusing.

    • Indeed, Borderlands series has some of the most creative weapon designs ever. It plays well to a certain degree of realism, making you intuitively understand why some parts of the gun are placed there while simultaneously making no sence with some ridiculous science-fantasy logic.

Would like to add that KF2's weaponry is exceptional, in that the animations were motion-captured using a high frame rate, thus resulting in very detailed and smooth reload and inspect animations. Just don't bother with the DLC weapons, they weren't motion-captured and done quite poorly in comparison to its launch weapons.

    • It's not just a squirt gun. Sometimes you pull out a bottle of "soda" and use it to cool the weapon down, sometimes (particularly on the launchers) you use some sort of cable, possibly a separate starting motor, to get the gun's internal engine running again... ...and sometimes you just rip the old barrel off and cram a new one in its place. If anyone tried to build CoV guns IRL, they would probably be more dangerous to the shooter than to the target.

  • 3:49, I swear you can see the little bits of brain becoming unstuck in his mind... That rifle is made by the Tediore company, whos primary merit is a fast reload mechanic. Instead of actually reloading the gun you simply threw it away and instantly got another one. The tossed weapon will often explode, doing damage depending on how much ammo was left in the gun; you could fire a single round, hit reload and just detonate the rifle in your enemy's face. Particular fun were the Tediore rocket launchers which - once you'd fired the rockets - was simply used as extra rocket.

Atlas, Maliwan and Torgue have varying amounts of futuristic looks, and the Cult of the Vault (often abbreviated to CoV) tends to be almost exclusively weapons that look like they’ve been cobbled together with scrap parts and somehow work when they really shouldn’t.

  • With the spinny barrels gun, the one that goes from a rifle to a shotgun. I'd wager the most reasonable explanation given the context of borderlands is that it's an energy weapon of some description and what you're swapping is the assembly that either focuses it into individual projectiles, or scatters it like a shotgun.

  • The Molten Faisor concept of rotating the whole front of the gun to change function could work if it was an energy weapon. You load in a magazine of pre-charged capacitors/batteries which discharge to fire a laser and then the front of the gun contains different lenses to either produce a single beam or a scatter beam.
