There were decades of skating, entire careers, before anyone ever jumped off the ground!
😮
Sure but nowadays any skater with basic moves should be able to ollie. The standards are different. Learning ollies after learning how to roll and tic-tacs is perfectly fine.
No there wasn’t, years maybe, not decades.
You could say that about any sport ever, things are different now
One small jump for man, one giant leap for skateboarding.
Number one trick to learn. “Ride”. Ride your board everywhere. Get comfortable on it. Then this video. Don’t underestimate how important just moving on the board is, it’s fundamental. Everyone wants to do tricks right away, but riding should be priority. All that being said, plenty of simple tricks to do in this video. All needed to get better. Hope everyone learns something or at least gets reminded of something and tries it out. More skaters the better!
Riding is a trick, damn wobbly boards.
Yeah, but isn't tictac necessary for doing curves easily?
This is so true. I rode a longboard for like 2yrs and then stopped for 4yrs and decided to get an actual skateboard and I’m so damn uncomfortable on the board. I can’t do big pushes at all
True i am very comfortable doing Ollies while its static but soo uncomfortable to even push 😂oops
@@anotherdayinthedirt7548me too haha
I’ve watched probably a dozen Ollie tutorials now and just still can’t get it and this is absolutely the best video I’ve seen for beginner beginner basics
glad you saw this video then. there are 100s of other things you can do besides the ollie. ive even seen videos of female skaters skating transition at skateparks fluidly before they even attempt an ollie. dont be hyperfocused on that one trick. just enjoy the ride. you got this !
omg, it’s so hard for me to ollie that I screamed myself 😹😫
so many other things u can do with a skateboard. dont get hyperfocused on 1 trick. just try other things and go back to the ollie later. @@justmuhd03
From a tutorial to a flexing video
01:20 | 1. tictac 02:14 | 2. tail stop shuffle 03:15 | 3. tail stop to rail stand 05:06 | 4. monster walks & 05:48 penguin walks 06:55 | 5. do all tricks in one sequence Great vid Mike! Really makin me wanna get a freestyle board now.
Nice
I wonder if i can still practice freestyle on a regular skateboard 🥹
@@heygabimara545yeah but pogos are usually harder
@@salsasoja4996 wahh thank you. Once i get better at using my first skateboard I'll try and find one that's meant for freestyle
Are freestyle boards different? And are they more "welcoming" if you want to learn this type of skateboarding? Edit: Ahh never mind, I'm having a field day at their website rn :D
Very nice, as someone who is probably much older, heavier, and unathletic compared to the average total beginner, its really encouraging to see good tutorials for simple, foundation building tricks that I can learn with low risk of injury.
So you know, youre gonna get hurt skating no matter what. The importance is to wear protection so its not that bed and so you can get right back up again.
@@santiyeman5463Isn't an entire bed for protection a bit over the top? ;)
If you are older and don’t want to get hurt, what is wrong with just riding the board? Why do you need to learn tricks. If you want to learn tricks you can’t be afraid to fall. I’m not trying to fall on my older bones and I’m wanting to get back on a board after having a heart transplant. I just miss having a reason to go outside.
if usopp could get jacked, ofc you can skate
As a 47 year old coming back to skating, this vid was golden dude. I skated for many years growing up. Haven´t been on a board for 30 years. Gonna be interesting to say the least. Im just gonna ride on it for a few months and then get going.
Im 40... havent skate for 20 years...i just start again...by two days ago
Started at my 40 😅
@@samsadj9969 learn how to push and balance your body bro 😁👍
Congrats bro. We all need to get back out there. I think it would be fun. I ordered my board last week.
This dude whipping out that Rodney Mullen shit telling us it’s easy 😂
It is easy, you’re just scared of your skateboard 😂 let us help you
Bro you have some insane skills
Haven't skated since I was a kid; just started doing so again at 28. Love skating, tis like dancing on the plank of an enemy ship in beauteous form. These tips are things I probably never thought were important and so learned to Ollie then learned to kickflip (barely) but I've always had trouble landing them and this is hugely vital, I feel, and am grateful for your teachings. Big ups man 🤙
LOL your comment brings me back man. Those two tricks were essential in those days. They could make or break you. If you couldn’t Ollie you weren’t a skater. If you could Ollie then they wanted you to kick flip.
LMAO bro it was a catch .22 forreal@@tommygunn940
@@Cuckold_Cockles LOL on God.
The board, the fundamentals, the OG tricks. This guy gets real skating. Stop worrying about Ollie-ing day one. GO RIDE.
Appreciate you explaining what the fundamentals lead into.
I love 70s/80s freestyle. I want to be able to do that style of skating and transition really. This video is great.
Fantastic tricks for basic board comfort 👍 I think hippy jump's a huge help with timing and giving learners a sense of the bolts and balancing across the deck's long axis.
Dag. Very well done. Your delivery here has me jonesing to get out with the kiddo and get me legs back. Tanks!
Awesome man, just found your channel and I've been looking for tricks to show the kids as they get started
great tips. this whole rush to do the ollie first can be rough. back int he 80s i did just that because thats all i saw Natas doing over high stuff. 100s of other things you can do on a skateboard before you even consider the ollie. great video. very helpful to anyone who picks up a skateboard.
this was absolutely crazy, thank you for teaching me those things. i will get better thanks to you
Thanks. Got me a start now.
Thank you so much, i'll try my best to learn them 😃
Thanks for the video, you're awesome 🤩
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for this video! I didn’t realize how much nicer basketball courts and tennis courts are than parking lot asphalt. I tried skating on a basketball court today, and tricks were so much easier! I was able to check these tricks off, and they definitely helped my little ollies
Really vital video, thank you!!
I bought a board as a gift for myself with all the good stuff and can’t wait to get on it and have fun and maybe after I get used to riding around I can try these neat moves :-) ♡
Very informative and sick af! I love how you’re doing this at el dorado parks basketball court lol.
Great tutorial
Awesome to have some tricks to do between ollie practice, as it can be frustrating and monotonous. Plus those combos look sick! 🤘🏻
This is a great video man!!!! that finger tre (I THINK hehe ) was sick!
Great tips
LOVE THIS!! thanks for breaking this down.....everyone wants to move to Ollie and it's one thing to do it on grass vs. Moving....=)
Heck yeah!
Great video!
This is a great alternative to the standard “steps to ollie” videos
Hearing Scarlet Fire behind this made me really happy and just made me laugh thinking about Dank Pods
Same bro!
My New Year’s resolution this year was to learn how to skate, I’m working my way to an Ollie and these tricks and tips are really helpful!
Yes indeed. Because it will make landing that much easier when you are comfortable on the board. I think back in the day a lot of people got discouraged because you had to learn to Ollie then kick flip. Most people couldn’t get it down and gave up I think. I just want to ride now, but I will go over these tricks again. I’ll leave out the ones that will scratch the bottom of my board though. Until I get a junk board.
Thank you
I learned how to burt slide and different ways to fall going fast, and tail stop, then Ollie air walk and a few others before Ollie
Just into skating a year ago, normal popsical board (double kick) will this help for board control? Need to get comfortable with balance etc
Bros nice with it
honestly I learned how to Ollie first but these are a super fun challenge because you don't always develop all these skills just learning to Ollie
i can can already ollie (goofy) was just tryna look for tricks to trick switch but i’ll try these goofy
thanks
Bro you are absolutely phenomenal hahaha
Thank you!
I'm 43, this video helped me to jump on my board and go back to play basketball, thanks 😂!
Cool vid
I want to get into skateboarding so bad. I looked up a video on skateboarding once on KZhead and now it’s all I see 😭
I never remember trying to learn any specific trick before learning to ollie, it was just months of getting to learn how to skate. You can’t just buy a skateboard and automatically jump on the board and start learning the tricks with no sense of balance and maneuvering first.
Learn this the hard way 😂now I just skate around to get the hang of the board.
Ive never been into skateboarding until i learnt of rodney mullen now i want to learn so this video was very cool
Good luck! Check out people like Gou Miyagi and groups like Osaka Daggers for different takes on skateboarding too.
Bro looks like he’s stumbling on ice but not falling. So clean oh my god
thank u so much for this video! :D
Thanks for watching!
Its all about leverage to make tricks easier. Shorter wheelbase, narrower width will be much lighter than a wide and long wheelbase.
Awesome video, I like these! Does it worth to try on a street deck too?
I’ve been doing these on my street deck so its safe to say you can!
definitely possible on a street deck.
Rail stands on a street deck can feel slightly wobbly but it's still possible. You just have to try harder on balancing it but not impossible.
*6:21** Something I've noticed about a lot of very skilled skaters is that they seem to be stuck in their forte. Or entitled to it? Ha. Gotta love.* Correction: You're a totally awesome and amazingly helpful guy, a freestyler and a skater. Like the rest of anyone that rides on things that you don't.
dude is literally playing hacky sack with his skateboard
wat
Is it okay with a mini cruiser board?😅 like just one tail board
Goated
I’m starting my skateboarding journey and have been practicing the Ollie. Wish me luck 😂
You got this!
Wow
Great tips! something I suggest to new skaters, is to learn how to fall. by tucking your head towards your chest and try to roll into the fall. watching people trying tricks down many stairs, you'll notice that sometimes they fall, get back up and try again because they dampen the impact by rolling into it, if not there would be no second try.
real deal
SLAM!!!
Thanks! I'm just starting out, whenever I start to go forward with my opposite foot My whole balance is ruined lol
Same here, yet im regular on a skateboard, but goofy on the BMX (both my left foot is forward)
Same, I skate goofy but I can barely move natural
dang, what shoes are those?
what kind of board and shoes are that?
Every minute i was just waiting for the next cool name of each trick
It is all about the foundations of what tricks are built upon to be able to do them. You need to be able to walk to jump. You need to be able to stand to walk. You need to be able to breath to live. You live on a foundation, skate on one as well.
BRO I JUST LEARNED OLLIE, WHYD I GET THIS NOW
i have a larger board so the monster walk is weird for me, but still trying
The best thing you can learn is how to fall over. It's never as bad as you think and you learn to roll. Gives confidence.
My problem with skating (and soccer) was smashing my shins, I could take a hit on just about any other part of my body when I was younger but I just couldn't hack that pain. Strange enough, went for BMX instead which is even more pain 😂 Wish KZhead had been here when I started 35 years ago, might have had a better chance if I'd watched this- now I'm 40. Think I'll stick to playing guitar
Quick question- Does it matter which way your skateboard is facing???
I've always wanted to learn to skate and been more interested in flat ground and freestyle but I always find a reason to put it off. now I'm 30 and super pregnant. of course I'd find this channel today and not last year 😑
you can still do it. im 51 now and still skate. all good when things open up for you, i bet youll back on your skateboard in no time :)
Keep your knees strong and your body flexible, and you can start once youre safe to go. 🙌
2 most important things to learn, going and stopping, without trashing yourself or the board. Until you have the leg strength and balance, probably use knee pads.
I live there that’s in el dorado
I’m old school 80s skateboarder , have not tried any tricks in years . Would a old heavy board work for this path to master the Ollie ?
What kind of board is that? I’ve never seen anything like that 🧐
It’s a freestyle board! We make them waltzskateboarding.com

Crazy🎉 what size is your board?
This is the Waltz 7.6” Bixby shape

i can’t keep watching freestyle youtubers or ill end up spending another 200 dollars on getting a complete freestyle board set up 😭😭😭
My dad just ordered me a skateboard and it'll be here on Wednesday, but I only see him weekends so I'm gonna have to wait even longer 😭
what inch of your deck? pls help me i really like small deck like that.

Most people forget skateboarding is about having fun not the tricks you know
To each their own 🤷♂️
@@waltz_skateboarding wut? do you not have fun skating?
@@jester333 literally 🤣 I always appreciated the styles other people bring to skating
Oliie is over hyped and have almost not style. Now, a Sal flip, no comply, or boneless are sic ways to get the board off the ground. I can't do any of them but I'm trying to get there before ollie. Oh! Yeah. Awesome video man. These will definitely help. Thanks
The name and model of that wheels bro ? Can u tell me plz ??

Thanks you are a good freestyler BTW
Bro hit a better Ollie than I’ve ever been able to do and said “aw that was so bad” 😂
ive mastered the ollie but have such a hard time doing tricks :I
what's the brake pad ? where can I buy it
It’s a skid plate from Waltzskateboarding.com
Freestyle is the basis for all street tricks. My 2 cents if it’s worth anything is Newtons theory of motion. Something that is in motion tends to stay in motion until it looses momentum. How you say does this help you in your OLLIES you ask? Well my pet peeve is people who learn Ollie’s not moving. It’s literally not helping you. Have you ever tried to stand on a bike withought moving ? You fall over correct ? Well it’s the same with the skateboard. If you are rolling forward you gain stability. After you master going straight fast you will have stability and you can start to learn to tap your tail . You don’t have to nail it the first time and go huge. I prefer learning slowly step bye step. Always moving forward and faster as you feel comfortable.. If you try to learn these things in the grass as this guy says it’s my opinion that you get into bad habits. Big Ollie’s need a lot of speed and learning to float your Ollie’s is very important. You cannot learn these things standing still, and even worse I see guys standing, still practicing these things, not facing forwards because they’re not going forward, so they get into this really bad habit of looking sideways and cranking their Ollies to their back and the whole idea of an alley is to go forward and over the obstacle The best way to do that is to be almost looking completely forward and learning how to go fast wow using leverage and cracking your board up into your legs.. Don’t get into bad habits. Remember, you should be squared up. Almost forward. Or at,least semi squared up… I hope some of this help somebody ..keep trying and have fun. That’s the most important part.
I find the caveman is also a good one for understanding how to jump and land on the board
SCARLET FIYYAAA
What size board is he using?
Mike usually rides his 7.6” Waltz pro model board. This is an older 7.6” double kick deck from Waltz
@@waltz_skateboarding Thank you, i just ordered my first skateboard 7.5inch size.
Los trucos son buenísimos pero el chico se emociona y los hace a mil por hora
Bro the first trick i learnt was the one foot pivot and i think its called yolo jump.
Yk what as a 13 year old skater who is a girl this has really given me the confidence to try out more tricks for example I’ve been doing it for abt 4 months and I can ride the board nicely do manuals tictaks duck walk or (penguin walk) soccer flip, and others and this video has rlly helped me, also I love how you didn’t cut out the parts where you messed up on your board that I found was a great way to show even pros like you make mistakes!
What kind of board is that?
A freestyle board from a company called Waltz Skateboards
@@waltz_skateboarding lol yeah I already been to your site. On my to buy list now.
90A?
Dude I can't even stand on a skate park without it rolling 😭
Skate board*
the skate deck you're using is different. most of this tricks wont be as easy on our regular skateboard 8.25 deck. not to mention the damage on the tail. I could never. (Same reason I dont do manuals when I'm not ready because I'll end up damaging my deck) [The irony of me talking about damaging my deck when I tailslide, boardslide, whatnot, on a daily basis.]
Freestyle is so underrated now a days.
