People are idiots, and driving on *any* public road is always inherently unpredictable. You simply cannot be skilled and experienced enough to truly account for every unexpected bit of wrong driving, and as much as I love supercars being driven hard, it's disingenuous to claim that driving like this is always safe.

Later that night, I had trouble sleeping in a strange house. I went out to the garage an just stared and looked all over the car for about two hours. It was mesmerizing.

But you stand there looking at 1969-72 917 Porsche or 63 Ferrari 250P and the of coarse the Ford GT 40. All of them are world beaters. They’ve been around the world and dominated their group. You can touch them, smell them. lol That sounds weird I guess. To me they are mesmerizing.

  • In 1969 my sister was lucky enough to get a Mustang GT 302 V8. It was a manual 4 speed. I had never driven one until then and she let me take it out for test spin. I was impressed with the responsiveness and the overall speed that I could get. You're talking the same way I felt that one time. Just amazing feeling. But a Ford GT IS the best when it comes to speed, and responsiveness. Love them. I'm 72 now and wish I could step back drive something like that. It would be so freaking awesome.

  • The guillotine doors, as you called them, have a historical background: as soon as the race started, the drivers who had been standing at the starting area until then had to run across the track to their cars. Here Ford's innovative door design helped the drivers to get in faster. However, this traditional start was abolished after Ford's 4th Le Mans victory in 1969. But at the same time (1969), Ford driver Jacky Ickx, protested against this type of race start, in that he and his team-mate Jackie Oliver only "walked" slowly to the car and did not run, as they considered this relay start to be too dangerous. They were also to be proved right, British amateur driver John Woolfe, who was driving the only privately entered 917, had a fatal accident. In addition, debris from the car hit Amon's Ferrari, among others. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful reminisce of Ford's 4 victories at the time and is still something very special. A thoroughly iconic car that is part of many childhood dreams!

    • The 2006 Lincoln Navigator has the same engine as the GT (5.4L Triton, without the super charger or manual transmission, of course) and that beast was 3 tons of fun. Ours could walk away from almost anything on the highway. Though basically the same vehicle, our Expedition drives totally different, and the newer (2013) 5.4L doesn't seem to be quite the same powerhouse as the 2006. The thing I really enjoyed with the Navigator was pulling a 3,000-pound camper in the mountains. I'd set the cruise around 70 and all those "Fast" little cars that impatiently zipped by me a few minutes before on the downhill would disappear in the rear-view mirror going up the next big grade. And even muffled, that was a good sounding, and running, engine. I sold it about a year ago and have been kicking myself ever since. I would rather have a GT, though. (Wonder if I could get a trailer hitch for it? Probably not.) Take care.

It doesn't mean that it's more pure and raw, or would be more enjoyable to drive on the street or even track however. If I was a billionaire buying a dedicated track car and wanted to set lap times, sure, the new Ford GT would be a better choice. If I'm looking for an old school, raw driving experience in a modern-ish platform however, something that is going to test my skills, allows me to manually shift gears, and maybe even scare me a bit.... the previous gen scratches this itch FAR better They are WILDLY different cars, and I love both, but for me, a truly analog, manual car is what gets my juices flowing

  • Your joy, passion and knowledge are both authentic and infectious, not that I absolutely needed that, aside from interesting stuff here and there (it became my all time dream car when I was less than 10 years old). Of course, it was a just a 2 inches long replica of a Ford GT40 back then. Still, needed or not, this video is heaven.👍❤

  • The interior is really amazing for its time. I'm actually suprised, since most of Ford cars were always ugly to me from the inside, and this one is pretty retro and holds up pretty well for today standards, in my opinion. The whole thing is perfection.

  • There are many cars that are beautiful, fast, exciting, game-changing, modern-retro inspired designed, but the GT has them all. I have really enjoyed these cars since they were new, but looking at this one for some reason has made me realize how much I love this car. Everything about it was done "right" in my opinion.

    • Totally agree awesome point of driver perspective but do watch where you clip things, the GT having its speedo off to the right your dash clip covered the view of the gauge until the very top and I am sure a bunch of us were interested to watch the needle climb! Great job and very minor point.

  • I once saw 14 of these in various liveries/colorways parked outside a restaurant in Indianapolis. There wasn't anyone in the lot to talk shop with so I kept walking. I didn't want the awkwardness of someone running out thinking I was attempting to steal their baby. Big regret. I've always assumed they had just attended a GT only meet at the track. IIRC, it was near/during race weekend. They're truly stunning in person...
