For context to those who might not know: Megan had a very tough time during her rise to fame. First, she lost her mother and grandmother during the same year. Then, she was shot five times in the foot by a guy she was seeing at the time, and he proceeded to troll her for 2 years and deny that he did it (even recorded an album about it that gained him popularity). The media also joked about her trauma surrounding it and blamed her for it. Even famous rappers like Drake, and an industry friend of hers, Debaby joined in on mocking her publicly about it. A court case was filed against the man who shot her by not Megan herself, but the state of California where it happened, and he was found guilty and finally sentenced this year. Her label treated her awfully during this time as well. They attempted to stop multiple high profile projects of hers, and she went to court with them several times to break her contract, which finally happened this year too. So although she is managed by Jay-Z's label, Roc Nation, she is technically an independent artist right now. So, these are her first releases as an independent artist. She reveals in this song that she lost friends, battled with depression and alcoholism, and her last boyfriend cheated on her... Megan has had to fight through a lot these past few years, and finally has the freedom to express herself and her art in a way that she never could before. I am very excited to see how she evolves as an artist going forward! I don't think a collab like this would've happened if she was still under her previous label, so I believe this is going to be a stepping stone to more like it in the future! Props if you read all this 😅
Damn she’s been through some shit! We hope she’s able to express herself the way she wants under Jay-Z’s label. We hate to see artists held back by labels like that.

She came up with the video concept herself, and I really love the way she used the snake as a symbol/motif throughout it. It's a very visually stunning MV, and paired with the lyrics, it just hits different. My favorite MV of the year!

Huge fan of Megan. I’d marry her if i could. She gets a lot of slack for being sexually explicit in her lyrics, but that’s just the nature of the industry, and i love that she’s so disrespectful to men about it lmao (sorry matt 😂). She flows like a beast and has a metal af presence.
I subscribed at 0:51 . We need more of this in the metal community. I've come upon a couple of.. let's say unfortunate videos. 😭 Meg is talking real in this and being truly vulnerable. What made me love spiritbox (who I'm a new fan of!!!) is that they understood that, took her SERIOUSLY, and honored the depth of her lyricism with their music. I've seen so many reviews from the metal community where people just look at the "visualizer" or immediately discredit Meg as the "WAP" girl, without commenting on the talent of BOTH of these artists coming together a la Linkin Park and Jay Z!! As someone that grew up on that infamous Naruto/vs/Sasuke youtube edit (if you know you know!), this song fed my soullllll. 😍😍😍 love your review!♥♥♥♥♥

@@Kreiger81 Well Cobra does "totaly EAT!" lol But I will check out that subreddit. I love most genres of music, but Metal & Rap are the top I listen to regularly. I'm still learning what sub-genres of Metal there are and how they differentiate from one another. Also, I would love recommendations!
@@KMtheEstie Spiritbox is a genre called Metalcore. If you want to hear more like them, Erra and Currents are good. If you want more female vocals, I recommend Unleash the Archers,(power metal) Jinjer(metalcore) and Harper(metalcore). If you want something a little harder, you can look at things Deathcore (Lorna Shore, In Gloom, Orphan) or Death Metal (Skinless, Cattle Decapitation). If you want to go slower and heavier, you can look at Downtempo (Black Tongue and Bound In Fear) or Slam(Extermination Dismemberment). If you want to go lighter you can look at more progressive stuff like Protest the Hero, and to go even lighter theres stuff like Thank you Scientist, Coheed and Cambria, Mars Volta. That should tide you over for awhile.

As an old head I miss those thorough colloborations between hardcore solidified rock artist and a certified hiphop artist. 90s and 2000s had some great colabs. This is surprisingly entertaining.

I wanted to hate this, but I really can't. This song is great and pretty much a Spiritbox song with a feature. Courtneys screams on this are so much more visceral sounding than normal SB imo. CourtneyTheePlant and the rest have done it again. Gonna be a shame if jaded doesn't win that grammy

Yes that’s because she gave them the room to fully make the song theirs. If she wanted them to dim it down. She would’ve asked for that since she has the creative direction. Instead she literally asked Courtney to add the part of her singing as the Chorus when it was only the outro and leave the screams in. Megan is trying to give exposure with her platform and I respect it. If they worked on the song together from the scratch I’d understand your point but Megan’s song was already released and Courtney added hers afterwards so no room to balance it out or whatever.
