  • Could Rodman Ever Stop Larry Bird?

    @PU-Basketball@PU-BasketballАй бұрын
    • well, different sport, but you know what they say... "on any given ____day..." Im sure here and there Rodman could hold him to some un-Bird-like stats (that most other NBA players would kill for a line like that lol), but 9 times outta 10, Rodman's main weapon (besides the insane cardio and hustle lmao) is his ability to disrupt and get under guys' skin and hence out of their game.... can't do that to Bird. He'll never shut up, probably wind up rattling Rodman, and like you've said MANY times here, justly of course, not hating--- dont poke the bear. Rodman gets more physical, or mouthy, or touchy-feely, Bird gonna find that SEVENTH gear, never mind 5th or 6th haha, and just go off for around that 60 he says haha... Bird is one of a very select few players that when you talk about his stats in games, you really can't just go "30 pts, 11 boards, 11 dimes"....you gotta also mention steals, turnovers, shooting percent, triple slash percentage. He aint gonna have too many 9 pt, 6 rebound, 5 assist but with 0 turnovers and 5 steal games, dont get me wrong....but when you say "Bird put in work that night, dropping 35 pts, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, to go along with 88% from the field, including 78% from 3 and only missing 1 free throw in 11 trips to line. He also had 4 steals, an impressive 0 turnovers and only 1 fould, in 44 minutes of play" lmao...THATs HOW you get more and more young cats who dont know to keep putting respect on his name. And the crazy thing is, those kinds of games WERE NOT few and far between. If Bird were playing today, he's be a fan-doool parlay darling, giving i'd say 4 outta 5 games 22-30 pts, 7-12 boards, 6-10 dimes, 45-50/37-41/88-91 shooting, 2-4 steals, 0-3 turnovers... it's a SHAME, no matter how poetic it was, that he and Magic both had their issues that robbed us all of another 4 or maybe 5 seasons or so of those 2 saviors if they were to stay healthy

P.S There was 1 player Larry struggled against, that was a rookie in 1981(?) LARRY SMITH of Golden State - he was a rebounder deluxe and stopper. Bird only had to play @ GS once a year so not really much else stat-wise, but I do remember Bird having trouble w/ Smith.

      @Thomasbj1996@Thomasbj199619 күн бұрын
    • Yeah that whole GOAT convo always boils down to LeBron or Jordan with some fringe people saying Kobe or Magic and the one guy that gets left out and it’s criminal is Kareem. 6 titles (one in Milwaukee before LA 5) all time scoring leader until LeBron who never went to college broke it and had a 3 pt line which Kareem didn’t have for ten years became such a big part of the NBA and his abilities. 4 NCAA titles!! 6 X MVP 2 X finals MVP 19 X all star Rookie of the Year first year with Milwaukee they went from 27 wins to 56 2nd all time points 3rd all time Rebounds 1st in field goals made 2nd in games played 3rd in blocked shots Jordan LeBron and Kareem were all 3 “force of nature” type players, but Kareem was sullen and felt misunderstood until well after Magic came along, but his numbers add up to at least the Michael & LeBron convo. He just wasn’t beloved until late in his career and NEVER like those guys or Kobe or Magic or Larry. You can say stats don’t matter , but you’d just be wrong🤷‍♂️ Ididn’t even get into all his college records and he wasn’t allowed to play as a freshman just like ummm oh Pistol Pete??? LeBron broke Kareem’s scoring record like Caitlin Clark broke Maravich’s record😂I’m kidding the LeBron one is legit, hers is horseshit… Pete played 3 years and averaged 46 a game with no 3 pr line so gimme a break! LeBron despite having a 3 point line, has taken 1000 more shots than Kareem and made 1006 or whatever less!!! Kareem had Magic, LeBron had D Wade and Jordan had Pippen, I’m just right and I’m saying hr isn’t in the convo because he distrusted media and people didn’t like him 🤷‍♂️

  • The thing is this....there aren't many people that make it to the NBA without top tier athleticism, and the ones that do must have excellent basketball skills. To think that a bit more athleticism today would make someone like Bird ineffective must be the same ones that thought Dirk and Jokic weren't real MVPs.

  • Bird's game would be great in any period. He was the best clutch 3 points shooter ever. His game mirrors the Joker who is the best player in NBA at this time. There is a stigma attached to white players, can not run, can not jump or be a good ball player. Both made clutch shots regularly. Their stats speak for themselves.

  • The problem with the whining Pistons is that the vast majority of the best players in NBA history have been black and deservedly so! That’s why I am so surprised at the comments and whining of Rodman (who has no right to judge other players when he was just a good defender who was nearly useless on offense).

  • The Joker is like a modern day Larry Bird, and look how he is dominating the league. Two MVPS would have had 3 if it wasn't for the race comments made by Perkins, so he shuts everyone up by winning a championship. Meanwhile, Embid was out in the 2nd round. Priceless.

  • 2:03 There are very few players that have ever won the MVP 3 times. Russell did it (during a run where he won 5 of 8 and placed 2'nd 2 of the other 3). Wilt did it (with a few 2'nds, mostly to Bill but one to Oscar). Bird did it (and placed 2'nd the other 3 seasons out of a 6 year period). Jordan and Magic both managed 3 out of 6 (interleaved, they had ALL of the MVPs in a 6 year period in a row). LeBron did manage 4 out of 5.

  • Larry should've won his 4th MVP in '87: that season was better than the last 3. His 4th ring, however, was lost in a bar fight in Boston in '85, after the ECFs. It's a fact that Larry wasn't the same player in the '85 finals: what isn't so well known is that he'd broken his right hand on a bouncer's head celebrating their victory over the 76ers. Had Larry been 100%, the C's probably would've beaten the Lakers and he'd have tied Magic for 4 titles when he retired. If that'd happened, there wouldn't be ANY talk of him being overrated. It's fair to say that with both LA's acquisition of Mychal Thompson and the C's loss of Bill Walton in '87, Boston didn't have enough depth and deserved to lose. But not in '85. That was their chance. In a 1986 interview with the LATimes about the incident, Larry said, "It's not easy being Larry Bird." Look it up.

  • Dennis Rodman was a great defender and rebounder in a time when tackling was allowed on the court. Bird was a great scorer in a time when tackling was allowed. In a softer game - Bird (like Jordan) would score MORE than they used to. I don't know if Rodman (the greatest rebounder of all time) would be able to change his game around to fit in and succeed.

    @TeranRealtor@TeranRealtor29 күн бұрын
  • Rodman clearly suffers from a depressive disorder. His low self esteem makes him act out overtly in order to function. His ability to defend from the post was amazing. He knows he’s different but the Bulls kept him in line without tolerating the abusive nature he learned from Thomas. Cruelty was the point under their coach in the 80s.

  • Bird FOUNDED the 50-40-90 Club AND achieved it twice. Rodman was a rookie who should have kept his mouth shut. Thomas should have known better. This is racist and inexcusable on every level. And Thomas wonders why no one wanted him on the 1992 Olympic Dream Team.

    @ElizabethAldrich-bb1ot@ElizabethAldrich-bb1ot27 күн бұрын
  • You can say all you want about Rodman and Thomas... but Rodman won 5 Chips and Thomas won 2 (plus the NCAA Chip as a sophomore). It was these two players... who eventually dethroned the Bird led Celtics in the following year (1988) and they won 2 in a row (1988-89 & 1989-90). It was these Detroit Pistons who made the NBA change to the non-stop crybaby action we have to watch today. There's no Defense and teams can come back from 20 points down on a weekly basis. This is just a bunch of athletic, fast, taller, 3-point shot taking specialists... who can score 100 points in only 3 quarters.
