    • Hey guys, that was wonderful. I've seen so many very touching episodes of 'the dodo', and this was one of them. Thank you for your care of these animals, you set a great example for everyone else. Malawi doesn't get in the news very much, but Lilongwe sounded strangely familiar until I remembered that I've actually hitchhiked through Lilongwe on my travels (1985-86). btw, perhaps you could get the guys at 'the dodo' to pin your comment, so it shows at the top of the comments. Best wishes from uk.

    • They are more related to cats than dogs, both are Feliformia. I don't know if they have ball socket joints on the front legs that's a big one for Feliformia, but also some other animals such as deer don't have them either. Dog are actually poorly suited for life on the plains of Africa as front ball joints break down fast due to all the running that's needed.

  • Dont forget to thank the funny dog and the two adult hyenas for accepting the cute little hyena as one of their own. I dont know if this is granted that adult hyenas accept a little hyena that is not one of the pride. Maybe its because they both got a 2nd chance at life too. We should never forget the respect and love that wild or domesticated animals have for other species or strangers. Animals truly are a gift to mankind. We could learn a lot more from our animal teachers

  • These hyenas are gonna live the best possible hyena lives. In the wild, male hyenas have awful lives. They are bullied and mistreated by the dominant females. So these boys struck gold.

    @cocogoat2131@cocogoat21319 ай бұрын
    • I wouldn’t say they have awful lives in the wild. It’s simply the way that the clans work. All wild animals are happier in the wild than they are in captivity. And that’s what people need to remember, that these are wild animals, and some of the more dangerous ones at that, even if they’re raised in captivity.

    • @@mbehji6505 I love the wild as much as the next person, but there's a reason humans generally don't want to live like this. It's harsh, cruel, and merciless. For all the faults humans have, we do our best to shield ourselves from the worst of this kill or be killed system. In that light, saying "all wild animals are happier in the wild" is an interesting perspective to say the least.

      @jsonaut@jsonaut9 ай бұрын
    • @@mbehji6505 Lives for hyenas in the wild are insanely tough. They are in constant competition with each other and wild dogs for the same habitats, respect, and food. but the wild dogs tend to have bigger, more threatening clans and will steal their hunts from time to time when they're not being stolen from by wild cats and birds that also tend to exercise dominance over them. Which of course can very well lead to starvation if the clans they hunt with are considered "weak" by other predators. They are also not against outcasting each other. Life in the wild for Hyenas is quite hellish and these 3 are lucky in a way that they don't have to experience that life. I do think it sucks they have to be enclosed but, they'll be well-fed, and probably get to play with other animals from time to time and explore their curiosities in a safer environment. Maybe some obnoxious social media millionaire will buy one and keep it as a pet, flexing in a tesla and LAX.

    • @@jsonaut It's utter nonsense. True "being free" as being able to go where you want regardless of species is the best. But that comes with serious ramifications. That you can get killed in the wild. That goes for all species. We as humans also live in conditioned environments. Our nation states cities and villages. They offer us protection. And in many countries especially in Europe, there is little to no predator that can kill you. And for Hyenas being around female Hyenas is just being bullied and seriously scarred all the time. That is lose from most predators that would gladly off a Hyena because they are a threat to them/their young.
