  • Jiri is insane. People were saying that Jiri is only gret striker with no skills on the ground and then Jiri escaped Glovers mount 5 times and was the first man ever to submit Glover. He literarily won UFC title with his weakest skill point.

  • Ive never seen a fight look more like a movie than i did last night. The back and forth. Glover almost knocking Jiri out to Jiri submitting Glover. Five round literal battle of wills only to end with 30 seconds left. Truly something for the ages. Oh and heres some icing for the cake the champ kept up with Jiri at the ripe old age of 42.

    • Right there with you, man. I have never felt that level of anxiety for any sport, but then again, I'm a Prochazka fanboy. He was getting beat. Glover put on a clinic, yet by some weird plot armor type shit, Jiri fucking submits the submission artist?! it's uncanny. I'm still reeling. I am a Jiri fan, but they need a rematch. Glover earned it.

  • This fight was incredible, I found myself saying “oh, it’s about to be over” like 4 or 5 times. There were times when Glover was hitting Prochazka and I could see the lights almost shutting off for Prochazka, and then sometimes I’d see Prochazka hitting Glover and the lights almost shutting off for him. I could not believe how Glover was still standing after some of those punches to the face, Bisping was commenting on how loud they could hear the contact from the gloves to the face. If the time would have expired, Glover would have won, but Prochazka would not have lost. He absolutely refused to give up and they both fought fantastically

    • There were a couple times in rounds 3 or 4 I thought Glover was literally going to give up. Jiri hit him with 4 or 5 vicious body shots and it looked like Glovers body was about to shut down on him. Then right when you’re about to count him out he storms back and lands a shot of his own and/or a clutch takedown. Unbelievable heart by both guys the entire fight. I really hope the UFC gives the fans a rematch of this fight. Nobody deserves it more than Glover right now.

    • @@Mikey_2_Times true, an immediate rematch should be made cause this was an instant classic. If the fight had gone on for 30 seconds more, we saw that glover was up on the judges scorecards. I thought Glover overall looked superior and was winning the fight, but Jiri proved himself the better man by (1) not allowing Glover to finish him, and then (2) by executing when both their tanks were empty rather than blundering like Glover did with that guillotine attempt. The Smith and Ankalaev winner could be an option, but I’d rather see Glover get a rematch based on how epic that fight was last night. He absolutely deserves it over all the other guys in the top 5. • Jiri models his training and fighting style after the undefeated samurai Miyamoto Musashi 1584-1645. Think about how Jiri fights when he's directly trying to finish his opponents, while reading this Musashi quote: "The sure way to win thus is to chase the enemy around in a confusing manner, causing him to leap aside, with your body held strongly and straight." With his flow of attacks never repeating and from odd angles, Jiri swarms his opponents and doesn't give them rest, which is another thing Musashi talked about. How when your opponent is tired, or stumbles, or their mindset's thrown off, you should not let them even get a moment's respite, to recover; yet of course do this in a calculated way, not just charging in

  • It's crazy what a career Glover has had and how good of a career he missed out on. He started fighting in 2002 but couldn't sign with UFC until 2012 due to visa issues. Chuck spoke so highly of him, there was no doubt Dana and Lorenzo would have signed him earlier. He won the belt in his 40s, and was less than a minute away from defending it against a bigger, younger, killer of an opponent. Can you imagine the fights he could have had during the Griffin/Rua/Rashad/Machida/Rampage era of UFC Champions? He was good enough to beat any of them. As for Jiri, he showed a Champions heart in finding a way to win while he was gassed, lacerated, and down on rounds. I have a lot more respect for his Bushido persona now that I know it's not a gimmick and he is serious about it.

  • I already rewatched this fight twice. I have to agree with Chael: Best LHW fight! Some things I noticed were that each man took multiple chances to end the fight. Each man is highly competent in the various aspects of MMA (and each man understood this about their opponent). We got to witness a grizzled veteran taking the fight to a young lion. And we got to witness the ruthless creativity of that young lion, rising up to the challenge to dethrone a legitimate king. Nothing but respect to each man. Bravo! 🍻

  • It was definitely the best most competitive LH fight in history. Glover was so close to winning. Chael has lived this with his 1st Silva fight. I have more respect for Glover now in his loss than I did before the fight. He made that kid earn that win so I respect the new champion even more now too. Had he knocked Glover out in round 1 I would still question his heart. The kid walked through fire for this win. Best LH fight EVER. 🔥

There were multiple times in that fight where I thought one fighter was going to finish the other, and then the other fighter would come back. 30-60 seconds before the fight ended, I thought Glover was going to finish Jiri, or at least win the 5th round and the decision. I think uncle's right about this being the greatest lhw fight ever.

  • I never would have guessed that ending in a million years. I heard a guy bet 2 Euros on Jiri by sub in the 5th on got 900 Euros. Also, liked your point at 5:00 about him having lots of room to grow. It's like seeing Ngannou a few years back where he started getting patient and refined his technique, BJJ, wrestling, etc. Jiri could win his first title defense if he doesn't improve and shore up his holes, but he could also get frickin scary. We all underestimated his grappling
