What the U.S. Can Learn From India’s TikTok Ban | WSJ

Congress is considering banning TikTok, the Chinese-owned social media app that millions of Americans use daily. But the U.S. wouldn’t be the first country to ban the app - India banned TikTok in 2020. One of the main reasons for the ban in both India and the U.S. stems from TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
WSJ breaks down TikTok bans and how they work in practice.

But do we(india) have the potential to beat usa and china , ofcourse we do but for that we need to become self dependent in majority of sectors . The Indian army chased away the Pakistani army and was about to conquer the whole of Pakistan, but at that very moment our Prime minister declared a ceasefire. Due to his foolish decision to rely on the UN to solve the issue, the Indian army could not conquer a portion of Pakistan (which is today known as POK). • I've said it before and I will say it again: I'm fine with us banning tiktok or forcing it to come to US soil, with a single caveat. We need to address privacy violations of apps that are US based too. Meta selling data that ends up in the hands of foreign governments is still happening, and is a much bigger risk than tiktok is. It's kinda gross to be obsessed with the chinese company but not say anything about our own.

    @scalylayde8751@scalylayde8751Ай бұрын
    • I agree in principle, but the idea the US and Chinese governments are on equal footing with how data is used is wrong. While not perfect, actually far from it, the west does have a lot more bureaucracy and red tape than China. They just aren’t symmetrical cases where it’s hypocritical that one faces bans.

    • That's not what the ban is about. Pro Isareal PACS are funding both parties to push the ban. Why? Because the people under 30 are the generation that sees the "conflict" for what it is - one-way extermination. Congress has the power to get this vote done in four days but can't agree on affordable healthcare or a border policy? Hmmm AIPAC has lost its PR power because TikTok shows the reality of the one-way "war". They can't curate the social media feed like they can with American-based social media. Biden is not strong enough to put conditions on our taxpayer money being used indiscriminately to bomb Palestine. We pay for bombs and then send aid to Palestinians to clear our conscience. This is a bigger issue than banning TikTok, which by the way, all the data is partitioned in servers (Oracle) in Texas, which happened during the Trump Administration. Plus there is zero evidence of Chinese using the data, which again is monitored by U.S tech.

      @sterlingmarshel6299@sterlingmarshel6299Ай бұрын

Internet service provider will be required to block access to tik tok ip addresses and apps also use ip address to reach out to server so you cannot see tik tok, cannot log into tik tok however if you use VPN you will be able to access tik tok web and app considering you didn't uninstall the app in the first place.

China doesn’t allow foreign tech companies to operate in their territories without complying with their strict policy that allows the government to access private company data and enforce censorship. China’s “Great Firewall” blocks the websites or apps that don’t comply. That’s why platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and scores of global tech companies refused to launch their products in China. It’s worth noting that the version of TikTok in China is highly censored with a separate version for kids which promotes educational content. The US govt should have highlighted this as the reason for the proposed TikTok ban. “If they don't allow our platforms for national security, why can't we do the same?🤷🏻‍♂️”

    • The more data you have, the more influence you have. With enough data you can practically cause riots, or even a civil war without even being involved and watch your enemy nations destroy themselves while you are eating popcorn. This is why data in 21st century is power itself. I don't think you need me to explain why is everyone is obsessed with power.

  • a) definitively ban tiktok and investigate politicians opposing the move b) you should use a correct map because countries that have border problems with china don't like at all when you use incorrect maps
