Paradox: All The Verve songs are better than each other!
Bruh yes
Saw them in early 1990 (when still just called Verve) supporting Spiritualized. A night of pure psychedelic noise and lights from both bands. A truly special night was had.
Woke up this morning with this song in my head for some reason. Still sounds amazing more than 25 years later..
All of their songs evoke an emotional flood in the listener's heart. Truly VERVE is greatly underrated and underestimated.
One of the greatest albums ever a northern soul, great track.
A brilliant song from my favorite band Simon Jones is an underrated bassist
very underrated, his basslines are amazing and carry the tracks well
Andy Rourke influence for sure, but Andy is almost in Geddy Lee territory.
This Is Music isn't only a title.
+ABFibra this sux real bad
TBH, major, I wish more music "suxed" this bad nowadays, lol.
True that😃😃😃😃.
@@007majorgonzo You like Bond.Enough said.
The Verve are legit from another dimension I believe
What a fantastic, inventive band.
Truly!
To this day one of my favourite songs (and bands) of all time. First time I heard it felt like being hit by a massive wave. It was just one of those moments. I became completely obsessed, playing it over and over for months. Hearing this song and the album that housed it instantly made a mockery of 90% of the music I had been listening to up to that point. I'm not exaggerating when I say I was never the same after this blinding introduction to The Verve (in the best way). Bittersweet Symphony was what first got my attention, but it was this track that made me a fan.
Exactly - a massive wave! This and "They Don't Own Me" - masterpieces.
Bittersweet symphony and urban hymns might have been their big commercially successful stuff but their earlier work like this... and even earlier was much better IMO.
Nice way to describe how this is music and this verve sound made you feel. I was blown away by slide away still am to date. Overwhelming feeling that I'm stuck to the seat with the sound but my hands have to move to the smooth powerful sound not interested in looking at a video. Many of the verve songs have enough to accommodate many senses without needing the visual effect. Just listening to all the words being belted at you. Tell you now I'll take it. Luv that Richard talks you through this and slide away. Definitely my tribal music over time lost the rest of my tribe somewhere after the millennium. Won't stop looking as I know you are out there good place to start to try to make contact life shouldn't get in the way of a strong musical bond
Understand your explanation of being hit by a wave Richard tells you sitting in bed too long when this song and slide away have you programmed to belt them on every day reminding you to listen and move organically your memory let's your body know what to do it's been smoothly and powerfully stored in your short term memory like it was yesterday that you heard these songs for the first time massive Impact even though you might have left it on the shelf too long music is the strongest spiritual feeling
Now this is music.
A New Decade - This Is Music. What a great opening to that album. Killer pair.
N.s so unrated 😮
Wish these guys could have had more than the one hit here in the States, a truly great band.
One of the best bands to come out of this country.Seeing them live was something to remember.
Saw them at a Lollapalooza in the 90's on second stage immediately bought a northern soul after the concert been a fan ever since
I met The Verve in summer of 2020. I've never addicted by bands before, till I meet The Verve. I still listening The Verve every day, since that day when I first heard them) Love this guys!)

2022!🔥🎸⛎👑Hello from Latvia!
They're back together??
@@johncaudill9782 unfortunately not(((
Not a bad thing to be addicted to you could never overdose
Happy 25th Birthday you gorgeous song.
THIS is music!!! In their prime....the verve.
When I was 16 I used to love Oasis and The Verve and think they were very similar, now that I'm 28 I think they are waaaay different. I love both of them.
The thing is I grew out of Oasis quickly but I'm still listening to The Verve 25 years later.
@@flywings111 thats exactly the same as me. In my mid 20s during the 90s i thought oasis were pretty good. I loved the verve even then though. But now i cant listen to oasis. It just sounds cringe to me. Lyrically its naive and stupid and just the whole swaggering daft attitude is embarrassing.
Hi, now I'm ten years older and still love The Verve. It's the band that saved my life.
@@topspin213 welcome back.
The Verve were the Zeppelin of Shoegaze. Change my mind.
nailed it
Don't wanna. You're right, sir.
Cant compare them with anybody imo, theres nobody in any other genres that are like em
Can’t shake my head In agreement hard enough!
Taken a year...but here it goes. He’s never sung ooh baby baby a lot. That’s me, done ✅ (edited to put the ooh in- for clarity)
crackin tune. "i stand accused just like youuuu"
Filming location is Carradale House, East London. Brutal yet beautiful.
As well as Balfron Tower and the DLR.
THIS IS MUSIC!!!
Interesting that the song starts with the bass panned left instead of in the centre. Then switches when it kicks in. What a tune & only topped by the version they opened with at Haigh Hall. Legends!
The title speaks for itself!!! This band will be in my top5 forever!
Absolutely brilliant track and in my opinion the best from The Verve
Best gig I ever went to was Verve at Hammersmith Palais, they played this and it sent shivers down my spine.
Agree. I was there too.
I was there ✌️
The best band of Brit Pop, My band favourite of all time and the best song of 1995!!!!
This is more indie than Britpop
Nope, this is just pure rock n roll!
Have you ever heard about Oasis?
@@samuelegigli4404 Hated them, that was where it finished.
LW Poor you
Suicidally anthemic...matches the the tower block. Brilliance.
Storm in Heaven is a masterpiece of music
Gotta comment , loved em then , love them now !
this is real music, I love The Verve
This is music Bro.♥️
I stand accused just like you For being born without a silver spoon Stood at the top of a hill Over my town I was found I've been on the shelf too long Sitting at home in my bed too long Got my things and now I'm gone How's the world gonna from take me? Finding myself used to be hard But now I see the light If love is a drug Then I don't need it I've been on the shelf too long Sitting at home in my bed too long Now it's time to hear my song How are you gonna take it? I've been on the shelf too long Think the words without the song Never had a way to go Tell me now I'll take it I've been on the shelf too long I've been on the shelf too long I've been on the shelf too long We've got a lot of living to do There's a door in my mind that's open wide Come inside, come inside Jesus never saved me He'll never save you too, and you know! I've got a little sticker on the back of my boot This is music And now I see the light shining bright in my eyes If love is the drug then it ain't for me Well music is my life And loved by me I'm gonna move on the floor with my sweet young thing Down, down, down we go till I reach the bottom of our soul This is music
One of the best British band, plus the best singer song writer in Britain since John Lennon
Nope
@@MrShahid0072 Enjoy Sheeran tube
A white man taking influence off black blues artists despite of the rich history his own forefathers have left musically is not the best singer/songwriter from these shores. Imagine telling a Japanese karaoke singer that he is the best exponent of Japanese song-writing since pork ramen! Obviously a foo man.
@@robmaddison8645 it doesn't matter who your influences are, if you are an amazing songwriter, then you're an amazing songwriter. And both Lennon & Ashcroft are amazing songwriters. That's not discrediting their influences, it's just saying they are amazing songwriters, as they both are.
@@robmaddison8645 that's what music is. The rolling stones, even the Beatles took influence from other artists. Lmao your lack of knowledge in influences from artists to artists is quite clear. Like other art forms, music is a tree, branching off from artists to artist, though not identical sound artists / bands do recognize others work and take influence, it's nothing less than being respectful and appreciating what was already grounded.
There's a door in the back of my mind that open wide, come inside.
The Verve is my religion
Can't describe how much beautiful this music! Masterpiece The Verve!
Pure Verve, man how i love this band
Says it all “ This is Music” Awesome
name of the song says it all definately IS music. His voice really touches me!
Incredible...hard to believe this is 19 years ago
26 years ago now 😭
always my perfect insanely storm, this is the music!
Man but it was fun to experience this in real time. I lived for this band in the 90's.
Me too. I love you.
Hello teenager me saying 2022 brings forth the Verve. Viva the Verve
Oasis and The Verve were fantastic. And in the end I think they just wanted one thing, for people to sing along to their songs.
Legendary bands!
Oasis ain’t fit to lace these fella’s shoes.
Jon Rolph get a grip 🤦♂️
@@johnogrady1518 he ain't wrong. The verve had way more better songs beneath the most popular ones in their records.
Oasis were the herman hermits compared to the The Verve
FOREVER.x
Single out 25 years ago today. Feeling old
_Down, down, down, we go_ until I reach the bottom of my soul... *which is music* .
This is so 90's it hurts.
GREAT TUNE,best band of the 90's bar none
Oasis and The Verve are both amazing bands both with two lyrical geniuses at their core. Richard Ashcroft and Noel Gallagher both can write amazing music that moves people.
Gallagher is no lyrical genius... 'slowly walking down the hall faster than a canon ball' as an example. Its basically any old nonsense as long as it rhymes. Hes admitted himself that hes terrible at lyrics.
@@darrenlamb5640 He said he came up that line at a friends house when he asked why the cookie jar was on top of the fridge. Some day you'll have kids man and you'll get it.

Jules Gilmour No I don’t 🙄 what a moronic comment.
A Northern Soul is one of the best albums released in 1995.
is that why they don't make vinyls of it anymore
@@agent6583 who cares if they do or dont. Its irrelevant. Its a great album regardless..
That album had a very big affect on me in the 90s. It hit home really hard..
@@darrenlamb5640 true, its just me, I love vinyls, they feel alot more personal in my opinion, makes the songs impact me alot more, I don't know why
The Verve are in a different league , simply in a different league, Oasis are nowhere near them, walking way behind them, Ashcroft is really one of a kind, and i think he knows it, i met him once, nice bloke actually, but i dont see Brown, Gallagher, Albarn, Gillespie any of them getting near him, legend, living legend.
I mean Brown and Gillespie were from a different generation so it’s tough to compare since they were the influencers. Albarn is like leagues behind Gallagher and Ashcroft. And Gallagher is way behind Ashcroft.
Glasto 93 aged 22 with my best mates on some keen flint trips....best gig since we all melted to Gary Numan....but thats another story for another dimension.Excellent band in every way, shape and form.Sounds better than ever, baby.
When I listen to this song I feel like my heads on fire and no im not high.
I've the opening two lines of this tattooed on my chest, close to my heart
Why u idiot
So good then, even better now - nothing comes close to this today
If love is a drug then I don't need it.
Goldfingers masterpiece.Trellick tower,West London.Awesome building,awesome song.
"Goldfingers masterpiece.Trellick tower,West London" Not quite, this is Balfron Tower and Carradale House in Tower Hamlets.
Well, I came into this world over in the Americas up north in Canada. And I think you may be right, I am the only one who here who thinks the verve is one of the greatest bands. Richard Ashcroft is a genious.
Awesome song, probably my fave... One of the things I like about this video is seeing those beautiful eyes OMG... Speechless
That building is Trellick Tower in west London. An eye sore for many but some seems to like it. Apparently it is in the Brutalist style whatever that means. The word Brutal is pretty descriptive though.
nosirrom33 Docklands Light Railway is briefly shown many times.
i'm loving Richard's ambidextrous raving rocking movement, on fire🔥
Oasis are my favourite band of all time, but THE VERVE is more than AMAZING.
Seen them Northampton roadmender 1993 blown away what memories of small gigs you can't beat it.
Not everyday you see a music vid starring the stoic Brutalism of Balfron Tower and nextdoor Carradale House... EPIC!
