You know a band is genius when its so good it actually hurts to listen to them.
Oh this is SO WELL SAID!!! Thats how I feel listening to so many of their songs.. Like, actually physically feel pain and hurt. In the best ways. x
Nailed it with that comment 👍🏼
It is true!
yes i FULLY AGREE WITH U....
That's exactly that...GOSH
One of the greatest songs ever created by a human mind.
Put the pipe down, that's the stupidly insane comment ever! I'm thinking this is Dickies undercover account?
@@sharonlee4773- Fair enough, you disagree, no need to be so hateful. I'm wondering why you're actually here - just fancied listening to an "average" song, did you?
If only it was only average!@@keefowen
Better than dylan
Criminally underrated song
One of the best song in the ninet-, history. No, it isn't underrated.
@@alixfarron6730 How isn't it underrated?
@@gsly6081 read the first sentence of my comment again.
@@alixfarron6730 Yeah i know it's one of the best songs, still underrated in their catalogue.
man its sad that its criminally underrated at 6 million views i remember 1 million views was what made you famous hahahaha
Pure genius. Ashcroft always been against the programmers of society. Cost him the spot light his talents deserved. A loyal following recognises his true talent. One of the best lyrically.
YES! Well said, mate!
U seem to for get Mick mc cable see at height hall .3 times last Glasgow Ashcroft singer but no verve..
A very astute reply. Agreed
This man isG
Sorry guys this man is God to me genius
this song got me though breast cancer when chemotherapy got me down love verve and Richard as a solo artist...
Amanda Lapslie U hope you feel much better now.
+Tomasz Fijałkowski thank you I'm getting their merry Xmas xx
Amanda Lapslie fair fuckin play to you 👍👍👍✌🏻️
Amanda Lapslie hope your doing well :)
Amanda Lapslie it's hard to type with tears running down my face!
The Verve is the most underrated band 😭😔
This album came out 3 months after I got stabbed 7 times as a 16yr old.. It helped me heal..i was in ptsd hell before it was even a thing that was diagnosed..still soothes.... The verve helped me through a rough time.. if you ever read this thank you.. I’m still living, still listening
Holy shit!! I'm glad you pulled through!!!
@@ember-brandt hi ..I did thanks.. some tough years.. but I beat all the problems.. I’m fit, healthy, have a beautiful daughter and my own business..43 still going strong, still love the verve 😊
oh mate
@@swanzzyTerrible lo que tocó vivir My friend y me alegra que lo hayas superado con la música de The Verve. You are amazing man. Cuídate mucho y la vida a veces es una sinfonía agridulce. Saludos desde Liam Perú ♥️🙌🏻
Be free. Enjoy yourself
Thank you richard for walking with me in these lonely depressive nights, make me feel better!
keep strong.
Keep strong! Life is wonderful!
+João Roncha No more man..
Amen to that
I relive these lyrics, and moments upon every breath. The mother of my eldest had our history before she died of cancer. She left our 2 yr old son - who is now 14. We are not yet done...
This is one of the best songs ever written.
They were not a normal band. A Northern Soul nearly killed them and they weren't as big as bands that came up behind them. It's a bona fide masterpiece. It's not one man's work, it's a group masterpiece
Well said, Richard would dissapear for days, alot of MDMA but oh what a masterpiece! Cheers
You’re right every song on NS is credited to the band. People assume Urban Hymns was created the same and it wasn’t. Half of it is RH solo material and for me loses the magic of what the band did on NS
A beautifully sincere number. Ashcroft's pain is very apparent here. The loss of love is one of the most crushing pains any human can experience. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. And yet it's something most of us must deal with at some point. Life, eh??
You're right. The feeling is overwhelming, yet the song is beautiful.
Well put ✌
+Friedrich Nietzsche Yeah I remember listening to this a lot in 1999 when I broke up with my 1st girlfriend who I'd been out with from 16 to 19, biggest deal in the world at that time .... can barely remember her name now. Only when I park outside her house on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and SUnday nights (she works late Tuesdays) do I even think about her now.
You can't lose love. love is eternal. you can only lose what you THOUGHT was love!
John Randles who? are you replying to yourself?
Only a true genius can write something this good..
Blake, Ashcroft or Lennon?
comanchio1976 lol
comanchio1976 what about Morrison!! Great song writer!! And a fan of Blake!!
he is a genuis
+comanchio1976 Lennon said he must be high or low-- a genuis or a fool
One of the greatest songs ever, ever written. No more to add.
Exato
This song takes me to a sad part of my life. My girlfriend Karen died of kidney cancer. Hope she’s in the light now.
Sorry to hear this, man. I know she’s in the light. Hope you’re doing well.
one of the best songs from the 90's. they don't make them like this any more
They sure don't.
Music was mostly crap then too as well, stop reiterating the same comment ad infinitum.
It's good but only because the alternative is dreary
I'm 12 and I agree
@@tomdarrington bollox 90s was last of descent music
My lova affair with The Verve will never die!
nor will mine.
they were better than nirvana
@@pedrofaria7451 I preferred The Verve to British bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Stone Roses, Massive Attack, Travis I love only Depeche Mode, Radiohead and Suede that much.
richard is a genius and the verve is the best band ever
Agree
No argument there!!!!
...that's pretty dramatic
Best band ever?hahaha don't fuck
Concordo.
One of the best songs of the 90´s and beyond.
+you can't be this empty true, this song along with the other verve songs are timeless, they'll remain with us forever.
A masterpiece, but probably one of the saddest songs I've known. Richard really experienced so much for such a young man. And he's still standing tall. Good for you, Mr. Ashcroft! :)
A song with the soul of a Romantic poet, bearing no twentieth-century imprint.
My late husband loved them so much. Now I do too. ✨✨
Wow, just stumbled upon this band!! Im 54, and lived through the 60s,70,s,80,90,s,2000, @ just when I thought rock was dead, this band is awesome!!
oh you must get the first two albums then....
will do. I listened to them again today. There addicting!! Thanks, bro....
your welcome mate
Woow best comment ever!
This is more than a song. This is sacred.
Only thing am scared of is I miss a best friend of mine
Bought the cassette single when it was released back in '95. Such a stunningly beautiful song! 10 out of 10.
When he stood to face the sun, he cast no shadow. Our dear Mr. Ashcroft.
Simply the most beautiful, hauntingly melancholic record ever. Sublime.
saw them do this one in Vegas. "This one's for William Blake".
Sheila Zeke Yao from London that poetry.
Happy birthday Richard who else is here today listening to this tune 🎶
One of the biggest talents we have ever seen and doesn't get the recognition they deserve.
the guys a living lyrical genius love him
One of the most underrated bands ever ,timeless tunes , and Ashcroft one of the best easily songwriters ever
Just listened 3 times in a row this song has got even better with age I didn't realise its genius at the time
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS BY THE VERVE
The verve's best track and my all time favourite song, this song pulls on every heart string happy and sad.
with you on that , A northern Soul album as an album is probably the best , and last of their psychodelic early stuff . "No Come Down" a lesser known of their albums (in between "Storm In Heaven " and " A Northern Soul") is well worth getting
the bonus songs from "forth" album...the best ever psychedelic music
Came across this from time gone bye.saw at haighhall. Ashcroft 3 times since. Pity no Nick McCabe better reunion than Gallagher clones..
It hurts sooo much, but i love this song
Richard's melancholy is our gift 💕
Many a drunken night in a pub I've listened to this via a jukebox.
listening to this for the first time spawned the same sort path for me. I understand.
TheGooners11 correct 👏👏👏👏
It was always round my mates house, 3 of us had all just split up with our girlfriends at the same time and we used to drink strong vodka and tonics, fat lines of coke, smoke ciggies until the sun came up and just carry right on through the day til the night came again. Messy but its what we had to do.....
This song makes me happy and sad to be alive at the same time.
Something about the chorus is amazing. Cant explain it!
It's ethereal
Emotions don`t get anymore raw than this. One of the most haunting songs I know.
My favourite song ever. So many memories good and bad
It's Dec 2022, we need this kinda music 🎶 now. Heartfelt, honest with sincerity and by total phenomenally epic singers . X
best band ever proud to say I'm a fellow wiganer like these and nick mccabe is one of the greatest guitarists ever fact had the chance meet him once in Wigan what a nice lad he was bought me a pint he's dad worked with my dad no band comes close to these lads
daniel mcdermott Damn!!! You're a Lucky Man.
This song sends shivers all through my body. Pure class and genius...
One of my favourites songs of The Verve, I miss so much this band.
what happened to them??
Seemingly just fell apart after the reunion tours in 2007/2008. Richard Ashcroft is solo again, Nick McCabe and Simon Jones formed a new band called Black Submarine. Their album "New Shores" is amazing.
Thanks Benjamin
Simply unbeatable
A Northern Soul my favourite Verve album very underrated.
Underrated band. She's a superstar. Verve e. p. Northern Soul.
THE best verve track
A heartbreaking melody
im pissed and too often do i come back to this.too good
I really do miss The Verve, that last reunion was wonderful, come back guys :'(
For the whole my life i never heard a more beautiful song than History. Thanks The Verve 🤍
This needs to be heard
I simply can't believe that such piece of art has so few visits. The Verve must be the most mistreated band by de music industry. This guys deserved much more success.
Gangman style has more... Sucha crime
He didn’t sell his soul !!!!
The guy is modern day genius!! Never given enough credit for his lyrical talent.
How did it take me so long to discover this song?!!
One of the greatest bands that has ever been :)
Is a amazing song ever The Verve
Easily one of the top 5 british songwriter and hugely underated amazing singer and sonwriter , saw the Verve at Haigh Hall in Wigan still not been to a better gig.
one of the most perfect songs ever written
They should play this song before history lessons in school, would make them way better!
Theres more in a smile than in a hand ... Live enough life and you understand how prolific and true those lyrics are .what an era of music 😎
Played this to my dad today. He died 2021 👌
🙏
Are you crying in this moment? Me too.
I loved this song so much when it was released, I bought 50 quids worth of the CD singles, so I wouldn't ever not have it!
This is my favorite "Verve" song and my favorite love song. It's real. Love has to survive moments like this. It has to survive HISTORY.
I knew this was an amazing song when I was younger , but now I’m older I can fully appreciate the quality of this song , always takes me back to my youth.
The man of our times, a poet and amazing front man, thank you mr Ashcroft
One of the best songs ever written
I can't watch without crying
Richard Ashcroft's best work for me. When he's in this mood he's unstoppable
Simply one of the best songs of all time. Pure class 👏🏻
A masterpiece!
God this song makes me think of someone I loved so much and she left my life as quick as she came back in to it .
This is so beautiful, one of the few songs that makes my heart cry
First kick from my daughter when she was still in my wife's belly was when I put this song on close to "her". We were mesmerized. Favourite tune of my life. One of the best produced and felt albums ever. Dark, raw, hypnotic.
Takes me back to university days of the 90s
:')
The Verve is over, but the musics are unforgettable. I Love this group.
Another song to remeber how much we love each other... A.X.
What a tune, what a band. Beats all the shit we are subjected to in modern times. Quality
Forgotten how good the album was it gave me a lot of hope back then !!
How does one simply forget how brilliant A Northern Soul is?
As much as I try to and want to move on, it always goes back to the 90s for me...90s forever. Thank you, Richard.
best tune ever!!!
I would Definatly put the verve up there with OASIS for sheer talent, and importance, in British music, epic-song!...
I wish The Verve had the same level of commercial success that Oasis did
fav bands who had great themes in their lyrics, The Verve, Thirteen Senses, Feeder
Suede are better than both !
The verve are miles better thsn oasis who were all hype with no substance
Stephen Doran In what respect? Maybe later on in their careers you could say but during the 1994-1997 era that’s just not true. Liam was an incredible singer at the time (unorthodox but big power live and amazing in the studio) and songs like Live Forever, Slide Away, the Masterplan, Listen Up and Don’t Look Back in Anger are just fantastic.
So beautiful song
I'd happily listen to this song all day, every day.
Fun fact for anyone who didn't know: The clapping in this song (in the background, in time with the beat) was done by a man called Liam Gallagher. No-one knows who he was and he hasn't been heard from since this minor cameo.
I never knew this! Your last sentence made me chuckle :)
One of the best songs ever.
THIS IS MUSIC!!
Greatest British band of all time!!!👍👍👍👍
This song lives in my head and I live inside this song
My girl just sent me this to listen to as I close my eyes to sleep. Melissa, you own my hear.
It's one of those songs that you want every to hear to appreciate it's haunting beauty
one of the greatest songs of all time.
tfw when your English teacher directs you to this song since it's slightly based off a poem called London by William Blake
did that really happen ???! they’re fucking cool then
Apparently “Love Is Noise” is supposed to be a counterpoint to William Blake’s poem “Jerusalem”.
The opening is Blake's but mainly it's pure Ashcroft.
Ashcroft & Blake are souls who hear a similar drummer. The beauty & the woe.
I wander thro' each charter'd street, Near where the charter'd Thames does flow. And mark in every face I meet Marks of weakness, marks of woe. In every cry of every Man, In every Infants cry of fear, In every voice: in every ban, The mind-forg'd manacles I hear How the Chimney-sweepers cry Every blackning Church appalls, And the hapless Soldiers sigh Runs in blood down Palace walls But most thro' midnight streets I hear How the youthful Harlots curse Blasts the new-born Infants tear And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse
Sometimes things are at they're best right when they're "underrated"
I can't say I've ever used this word describing a song but its simply BEAUTIFUL...
The most underrated band to walk this planet Ashcroft is a genius
