Here's this week's adventure featuring the @overlanddad family in part 2 of our Utah explorations where we finally get a decent rest courtesy of Abigail, explore some even bigger caves with a few flying furry friends, have an unexpected but all too familiar explosion in the back seat (not what you think), and wind up at one of our favorite camps in Utah for even more drama with some spectacular views.

  • If you tint your windows, even with a clear tint, if your glass breaks, it won't shatter into a million pieces and fall everywhere. The tint will help hold it together.

  • ... Awesome shared adventure ... beautiful scenery and cave adventures ..... Bummer on the shattered window ,, sometimes a freak edged stone can do this ,,, but it shows this was NOT safety glass ,but, tempered glass ... Safety glass has a membrane between two layers of formed glass ,, was used in vehicles of the past but seems to have gone by the wayside with some thinking a million glass fragments was safer .. I don't agree ... for vehicles anyway .. I would check with your glass company to use and find out about it ... ... Pretty awesome where gear and components have evolved ,, pretty much into the "Glamping" world ,, but that's OK ,, so much easier and more organized .. No longer Dads 'ol hunting camp anymore ... .. Love to see the family adventures ,, these kids will remember those caves with active bats forever ...

  • .. Used to use a small RV for work and play and run into even prepaid park sites that some pay months ahead just to lock up a site for a "maybe" use trip ... very aggravating when you roll into a park or RV site that is half full but signs lit up as "No Vacancy" .. and don't require a confirmation call prior to use ...or not ..

  • Love your content and family. We have always camped in a ground tent. We also used a awning tent for just the two of us. We actually prefer the ground tent as we can leave it set up with our gear and make side trips without needing to take everything down. We just purchased a small Intec Sol Horizon trailer for our longer travels. It isn't an adventure trailer, but it has 28" off road tires and 15" of ground clearance so we should be able to go fairly off-road. We can drop it and take the 4Runner on any harder trails when we want. Heading to Utah this summer to try it out.

  • I just have to wonder if it was a stray bullet that hit the window. That safety glass can usually take a rather solid hit before it will shatter. Glad no one was hurt. A few years ago, my brother and his wife were on a freeway in Atlanta when the passenger window in the truck suddenly shattered. Glass went all over his wife. Fortunately, no serious injury. I am glad to see that Caroline is starting to drive. I did the same with my son years ago. His first driving experience was when he was about 12 and I let him drive from Saratoga Springs in Death Valley, up the Harry Wade Road and then the West Side Road. That was about 70 miles of driving for him. He did really well. He is finishing up his senior year in high school and has already enlisted into the Marine Corp. My son's first camping trip was at Kintla Lake when he was two months old. How fast they grow and then they are gone to live their own lives.

  • Judging by the Aspens I believe this video was filmed well before it came out??? In the fall in the area your in there are a lot of rancher that have to get cattle off the mountain before the cold sets in. Also local hunters will leave a camp on the weekends, come off the hill and work during the week. They will move a couple times, but it’s common to see a abandoned site as well as trailers, boats and OHVs in that area.

  • Kevin, if you don't have any window tinting.. Would you consider getting some sort of polymer lament applied to the window interiors. This would inhibit any glass shattering and fragmenting. The one provision, is that the lament must cover the complete glass surface. That means all the way to the edge of the glass Just sayin. Cheers, Mate.

    • @@LifestyleOverland ... might have been "body flex" at the door corner edge ,, or maybe some imperfect track at the top corner .. pressure on a screw head or ?? could cause enough pressure to "pop" tempered glass ..

      @rockytopwrangler2069@rockytopwrangler20696 ай бұрын
    • As someone that works with glass in my line of work as an architect - what you experienced is a spontaneous breakage due to a nickel sulphide inclusion. It's a flaw in the tempered glass and is something that can happen to any tempered glass. Your close up shot of the window shows the telltale butterfly shape that is produced by this type of breakage. Search Google for "nickel sulphide butterfly" and you'll see what I mean and you can read all about it. I'm glad that tempered glass held in place until you could remove it safely. @@LifestyleOverland

  • Some 3M SCOTCH Guard window film solved the window breaking for me. It makes it so you can hit the window with a tire iron and it won't break. It's also good as a theft deterrent.

    • The big problem with that for us is we're more likely to need to get out in a rollover...

      @LifestyleOverland@LifestyleOverland5 ай бұрын
    • @@LifestyleOverland it's not sandwiched polycarbonate. You can break the window from the inside by using a glass breaker and cutting the film with a razor blade. It really only reinforces from the outside in. You can punch the window out like any other. The broken glass will just stay together a little better.
