  • How long did it take your rabbit to trust you?

    @LennonTheBunny@LennonTheBunny2 жыл бұрын
    • It took about a week or so. It was such a great journey.❤️❤️❤️🐰🐰🐰🐰 Also, he started opening up to me a week or two. He did his first flop after a month I had him. I got him in November of 2020 and I am hopefully expanding his enclosure by doubling ex pens to make it a lot bigger for Christmas. I’m hoping I can get him a bunnies that lunch box, but it depends on the price, if it’s more than 20 dollars I’m just gonna get him treats, and another hide house. Just lots of improvements needing to be made I have to expand instead of free roam as we have a dog and it wouldn’t work out.

    • I agree. Cages aren't conducive to bonding. Buns in the wild live together with other bunnies in their warren. They have neighbor family bunnies that live in their neighborhoods, but they aren't bonded to those other buns. Cages are their territory, you are outside of that. So, taking away that cage puts you in their territory. Eat with them, feed them and groom together in the same space and they bond if they feel safe. Mine will even bring me her food to share. They are very different when free roamed and not caged.

  • My daughter had a rabbit we got when she was pre K. She quickly lost interest in the bunny. The rabbit's name is Chokura which is Japanese for chocolate--we lived in Japan, go figure. I moved the rabbit into my home office. It was a cage and I saw in the video that's a no no. I let Chokura out every time I was in the home and started noticing that after a few weeks, she was always around me or had me in her line of vision. If I was in the office she was relaxing against the closet doors. If I was in the kitchen she was half in the office and half in the living room where she could see me. It made me mindful of the prep work I did in the kitchen. I'd use enough parsley for the meal and give the rest of the bunch to her and she loved parsley. Normally I wouldn't trim the leaves off of celery when making chicken and dumplings but after she came into my life I would just to give her a treat. She lived twelve years. Towards the end, she had head tilt a couple times. Rabbits are subtle in their affection or maybe that's just my perception. After she passed, I'd be halfway to my office with vegetable trimmings before I realized she was gone. I promised myself that I wouldn't shed a tear when Chokura passed but it turns out that on the day she did pass, some jerk was in the kitchen cutting onions.

  • I'm still slowly gaining his trust :) I've had him for just under a year and I don't know what he had been through before but it seems like he was forced to be picked up when he didn't want to and was being kept in a cage all day. He was extremely scared and would hide all the time. I've been watching your videos for months trying to be a better bunny mom so that he has a happy life and I've learned a lot :) I stopped putting him in a cage he is totally free roaming now and he is a completely different bunny! I can see how much he appreciates it and it fills my heart with joy. He runs up to me and says hello and licks my face and 2 nights ago he actually laid down on my bed with me I was so happy! It's a slow process but he is learning to trust and I will continue to work with him every day until he lets me be his best friend! 🥰

Boy it changed everything when I free roamed her! She's sassy and let's me live in HER home LOL... She falls asleep when she let's me pet her but she will not tolerate being picked up or handled on floor. I let her be and just lay on floor and she'll come check out why and put paws on me to look around and either leave knowing all is well or let me pet her for a time. I'd rather have her trust not picking her up than pick her up and be afraid and hide and bite me trying to get away from my hold. We have a common respect for each other but I wish for more... I have steps to my bed that she'll sometimes use when she thinks I'm not looking LOL yes I take pics and video!

My bunny is about 3 & I just recently got her from my niece & she did the same with me (letting me feed her treats by hand)& even did Binkys by the 3rd night I had her but I don't have her complete trust yet because she hasn't really let me pet her (unless she's in a carrying box) or hold her willingly so I'm still letting her warm up to me & come to me when she feels comfortable.

  • My first bunny was dumped by my neighbors close to my house a month after Easter. Lola stayed around my front door for a few days but would hop away when my family saw her. I actually watched your videos before having Lola so I knew to not chase but instead to lay close by in the grass and talk softly. It wasn't long before Lola would start to hop closer, sniff me and then hop on my back. I didn't try to catch her at first. I just stuck my hand out and let her come to me. The next day, I opened my front door and sat by the open door with food. Once she saw me she hopped right to me. After I petted her I nudged her butt a bit into my house. I've had her for 3 years now and she is the most loyal pet that I have ever had and it only took a couple days for her to trust me.

    • Yeah mine's got a habit of chewing on things he shouldn't (he's been eating the piping off my sofa and sometimes decides the carpet is tasty) so he's essentially crate trained with a giant dog crate on the floor. When it's open, the door forms a barrier keeping him in the living room to limit the mischief he can get into, and when I'm home, the door is open to his pen and I'm usually in there with him because that's where my laptop lives and where I do a lot of my crafting (had to switch to wireless everything cause he kept taking the cord off my trackball, and he likes to steal craft supplies so I have a rolling plastic caddy to keep him from running off with everything). But even with the whole living room at his mercy, he mostly just sleeps in his crate, comes out for food and zoomies, has a nap on the carpet after licking my hand for a while, then eventually goes back to his crate and sleeps all day. The crate is his safe place and if anything scary happens, he books it back there.

    • Rabbits need a "sanctuary space" that you respect and don't invade. If my rabbits don't come out when I call them, they have a right to their space. 99 percent of the time, they'll at least come out part way to get a pet or two. Rabbits give respect when they get respect. I have one rabbit that gets angry and afraid at the sound of rattling keys. I got him that way. He thumps hard when he hears keys rattling. I try to be careful, but when he's done thumping, I give him reassuring pets and he relaxes after a while. I can pound nails beside him and he doesn't mind at all. But keys send him ballistic. They're amazing animals.

I started watching your videos a year ago and My cousins and I all wanted dogs, but then we saw how cute Lennon is and decided we wanted rabbits! And I thought so many wrong things about rabbits!!! I realized that they are not just fluffy animals, but they are animals with a lot of love and personality. I knew it was gonna be a lot of responsibility and care but it would be worth it! It took two months of bonding with my rabbit because he was miscared for before he came into my home. Eventually the last owner's (who were kids) "lost interest in him" what is that supposed to mean?! Anyways, watching your videos helped me to know what to feed my rabbit and what he needs to stay happy and alive. Thank you so much! I'm about to reach my one year bun anniversary (one year since I got my rabbit!) I could not have done it all without you😊 thank you for helping me take care of my companion❤️ (Ps.. my rabbits name is Hakuna and my tortoises name is Matata! They are besties for life!)

  • When I got Maximus he was a former breeder that they were "just going to get rid of" because of his age. He lived by himself, outside, on a farm. I couldn't touch him for almost a month and am fairly certain I am the first person to pet him. Fortunately, those hours and hours of lying on the floor paid off. It's been 5 months now and he loves being pet, we cuddle all the time, ( I'm typing this one-handed because he wants pets right now.) we share a bed and he now lets my family and people he has just met pet him. Apologies for bad grammar, one-handed is hard.

He's phrase is "don't pick me up!" It took 5 months untill Pudim trusted me and the deal was: when I lay down on the floor near him I won't hold him... • I’ve had my bunny for about a year now, I got her from a local shop, (I was told she was a HE and a MINI LOP) she kept growing over the next couple months I had her(she’s now about 28inches in length fully stretched out) she was already potty trained so she was a free-range when I got her home, I believe she’s a French lop, she was aggressive for about a month before starting to mellow and now she always runs over to me and runs circles around me, she still stomps and charges at me when I clean her area but she’s sitting next to me after 🥰 she’s my emotional support for sure and I love watching these videos, normally in my room with her. The info helped the bonding process so much, thank you ☺️💕

    • Lol very cool story. I was wondering that same thing about my bunny- I mean if she's really a female... because sometimes I get the feeling she's upset with me, & maybe she's a he but if I were in her skin I think I would be upset too nomatter if I was a boy or a girl with a name like Ashtray Lmao (it's nondescript) but I didn't name her, I got her from my niece who says she named her after one of her favorite cartoon characters. Although it is kind of fitting only because she is all black except for the bottoms of her little paws & feet, they are fluffy & dark gray, she's so adorable. How did you find out she wasn't a female or a French lop (I think I read)?

  • I’ve had many free roam rabbits and my 8yr old Bleu just passed away and I have a 8 week old named Elias. Bleu took a few months to become very close to me. He actually saved my life when I fell asleep cooking. Idk how he even got on my bed cuz he was so small. But he woke me up. Made us bonded for his short life. I used to have multiple bunny’s and we didn’t bond as much as just having Bleu. So I only want one at a time now. So it’s been 2 weeks w Elias and of course I think it’s gona b the same as w Bleu. He was trained perfectly! Such a good boy. Elias is devious!!! So time out of the pen to teach free roam is really hard right now. He already knows his name, and is potty trained. I haven’t found any pee spots anywhere else in our home yet!! I think he already loves me coming to me for pets. Your videos are really reminding me of things I have to do. I can’t wait til he can free roam all the time. Unfortunately he weighs less than a pound right now. He finds so many hiding places, Bleu couldn’t because he was 4lbs! Thank you for helping me since it’s been so long since I’ve had a baby bun.

It’s weird because it wasn’t till a few months after that I got him, which is when I started watching you, that I realized he was in a poor environment and I had saved him from it and it shocked me how we got so attached the moment we got home. He was so open and REALLY attention seeking but it’s so adorable and I’m so blessed to have a rabbit like him because Ik most rabbit owners sometimes have to undergo a process of building a relationship w their bunny.

  • Thanks to this wonderful bunny loving youtuber I've learned so much in caring for my first bunny. She's a lion head so fluffy and as soft as silk and her fur smells so good hehe! Ive learned how to potty train her now I let her hop around the house and I leave her cage open so she can go in when she has to go potty, eat, or sleep in her little hut. I only leave her in her cage when I'm not at home since I'm afraid she'll chew on cables when I'm not around. Her favorite treat is grapes. Everytime she sees one her little eyeballs pop out and she hops around in excitement! She loves to be carried and licks my chin and cheeks. She does not get nervous or hop of my arms since she was hand raised as a baby. I also took her to the vet for the first time and she is in very good health thank God! I never knew a rabbit can have such a big personality despite how tiny they are! Ive had cats before and tbh this bunny is way more affectionate! I just need more tips on how to train her to not pee in my bed lol! Sorry to share so much info I just wanted to share how great it is to own a bunny!!

  • I've had two male rabbits for over 8/12 years Max and Pushkin (Pushkin passed away two weeks ago). I think my relationship with them has been more like father and sons. They were friendly competitive with each other, and we'd play some games with each other. I would put a treat in my fist and have them pry my fingers away. I would fill up the treat ball, and we turned it into a sacred ritual, where they would close their eyes and snuggle with each other as I stroked them with the ball. One was always more impatient and so excited he was about to pee, but I wouldn't drop the ball until they were perfectly still - and then when I dropped it, they'd go nuts. I would rough house with them lightly, which they seemed to like as a game. They would jump up and over me while I was on the ground, doing core work, or yoga. A few times when I'd do bicycles, they would be on either side going up and down with my feet! They were fun to feed by hand - aggressive, but oh so gentle and they never bit (well, Pushkin bit me once after I gave him eye drops, but that was my fault). However, they were never super affectionate. The liked the occasional petting, but not too long. A few times, they would jump up on me, but not for long. Mostly they seemed to just enjoy being near me and watch me. They would run around the house, do a flip, and stare at me asking for approval ("Yay, Pushkin!). Then Pushkin had a seizure a few weeks ago, he got steadily worse, and we had to put him to sleep. When I started talking to the vet about it, he started quivering with spasms. I really realized then how perceptive and connected he was with my emotions. I petted him and talked to him, telling him that I would be there with him until the end. He calmed down, and died peacefully. All the times before at the vet, he was such a rock star, as he was so cute and charismatic and knew it, and he loved women. Leaving with him dead was tough. He was a wonderful little guy, and I miss him. Max seems to be recovering from his mourning, but he no longer wants to play. He is considerably less excited about treats. My sister got him a stuffed toy rabbit, and it's worked - he's bonded with it and cleans it all the time. But, he doesn't want to play anymore. He's nearly totally blind, has arthritis, and has some of the same signs of e. cuniculi that killed his friend. He flops down and sticks his legs out, so I know at least he's relaxed. He's stopped using his litter box, but I can't get mad at him.

  • I got my first bunny as a little kid named Thumper. She was not tame, and I did not know enough about bunnies to earn her trust. I wish I had the Lennon the Bunny channel to help me out!! What I ended up doing is giving Thumper to grown ups who knew more about bunnies. A couple years later one of my dad's law students had a bunny (Lubby) she was seeking a home for because law school was taking too much time. She couldn't give him the attention he needed, but I had time. I was patient and more knowledgeable by now, so I did a lot of things differently. Many of the changes are consistent with the advice in this tutorial, and my experience was similar to yours. Instead of housing him outside like Thumper, I kept Lubby in my room. That not only helped him get used to me, but it also spared him from all the scary outdoor noises that made Thumper feel like she lived in a dangerous world. It made his temperment calmer and that made him easier to tame. The other important thing is I accepted that he preferred to keep his feet on the ground. I waited to earn his trust before I held him, and I only ever picked him up to transport him. Another change I made is that I started giving him his veggies and clover by hand. I wanted him to know where his food was coming from and know I loved him. He turned out to be an amazing, bunny! He would greet me jubilantly and ask for pets whenever he saw me. He'd also reciprocate by grooming me. He was so cute. A year later, I took him to pick out a wife from a bunny rescue. There he met a bunny named Lissy, and it was love at first sight. I socialized Lissy the same way as I socialized Lubby, with the same result. ❤❤❤ These bunnies were my constant companions from middle school to college. I plan to adopt more bunnies when I have my own house some day. In the mean time, I'm learning all I can.

  • Took about 2 months to kiss my face. I found out treats on the bed really opened him up. Even though he was confident to start with. He did bite my face the first day I got him, believed he smelled my food in my mouth and was hungry. So when he snuggles he leans his mouth in my mouth area lol

  • I've had my bunny willow for 4 months, it feels a lot longer, but with your videos and tips I've been able to bond with her and have a wonderful relationship with her. She free roams my room, no cage (gross, cages suck) and she loves cuddling, being pet, playing and most importantly food lol. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the rabbit cause, you've inspired me in so many ways to continue telling others about proper rabbit care and pushing away the past stereotypes of caged rabbits etc being acceptable. I appreciate your hard work and love of rabbits and my baby Willow does too, I rescued her but I really do believe it was her that rescued me :)

  • I gotta admit that our bond got stronger since 2020, as I was working from home for over a year. I started to see how much she enjoyed our new routine. She became free-roam too. I have returned to the office, still, the stronger bond has carried through. She’s definitively more affectionate and happy

She had GI Stasis, and I had to feed her critical care, water, gas drops for nearly a week straight, she's recovering now, but doesn't seem to trust me anymore because of how I had to force her to eat ; - We're slowly rebuilding that trust again, and hopefully soon, she'll be coming up to me again

  • I started free-roaming my bunny during the day a while ago (almost a year now) and that greatly changed his trust in me. It took a while for my mom and I to convince my dad to let us but when we did he just started bubbling with personality. My current goal is to free-roam him 24/7 but I dont have a lot of time to clean my room/bunny proof it, not to mention he's having a really hard time understanding the litter box. But he does give me affection and he recently started letting me cuddle more!

  • Lorelei you are amazing. You're videos cheer me up. It breaks my heart that everyone doesn't think like you. Tina (my bun) gives a nose twitch. Answer to question: It took about 4 months for Tina to totally trust me and our bond just gets stronger all the time. We've been together 9 months. It's so hard for people to understand the depth and character of a bun's love when they haven't lived with a free roam bun. Keep up being a starlit advocate of kindness x

  • It took a few weeks for Herzog, my older bunny to trust me. I adopted him from a shelter (he was abandonned outside in february in Canada! ❄️🌪️☃️). With Truffe, my younger bunny, it took only 2-3 days and she was litter trained, free roaming and hopping on the coach and sleeping on my legs... I was amazed how quickly she got to like me! ❤️

  • After the first couple weeks maybe up to a month or two. He was abandoned and looked really terrified when we first got him. He would just be so still and watchful and scared and shaking in his cage. Gradually, we let him roam in the house, but he seems to like to just stay in “his” room, which he basically gets to home self, besides having a good number of stuffed animal friends. We’ve thought about introducing a kitten or another bunny but at this point we’ve had him for around two years and think it’s be a good idea to introduce another bunny because we think he might fight or get territorial with it. Now he’s always oinking and running to and from his door to his room whenever we walk by, and tries to lure us in to play and show him love. Lately I’ve put down a rug in my bedroom so he feels more comfortable entering (he doesn’t like our hardwood floors) and he’ll come into visit or scratch and chew at the rug or a pillow lol

  • The thing with my bunny is he's very trusting but isnt very affectionate. He trusts me and isnt scared of me but wont come and cuddle with me either. Ive had him for about a year now and he had a great owner before me so it's not that he had a bad past. It also doesnt help that we cant free roam him.

  • I have three bunnies right now, we got the two girls before the boy. When we brought the boy, Coral, into our home he was nervous for about a day or two and then he started to trust us fairly quickly after that. He was lonely in his previous home but he hasn't been alone for a moment since he came here. He either has us humans around or he can see one of the girls through the playpens. We brought the girls home together from the pet store, I know, never again I promise 💜 and they were very different, and have since started to fight and been separated until they can be spayed. Mocha is the playful one in the group, very active, drinks too much water makes us worry about her health. She felt comfortable within the first week I'd say. The bigger girl, Fudge is a completely different story. We can not know for sure but there's definitely a possibility she was mistreated or even bred considering her size. We could also be unaware of her age if she was bred. She could be mochas mother or sister. They are both completely black and gorgeous. Fudge doesn't like to be touched or held so we dont pick her up much . We do try every once in a while to practice for grooming and sort of as exposure therapy. We don't want her to be scared and if we pick her up the way you taught us she behaves very well. Thank you! Fudge didn't let us pet her for a long time, probably weeks. Months later we are able to pet her head most every day, mostly when she has food. She is eager to live with the other bunnies and I think she will be very happy. It seems like she misses mocha and she's gotten very comfortable with coral since it's all on her terms. She basically has her own room in our closet and is the bunny that runs free the most because I can't stand closing the door. She never can't go to her own room and now she mostly chooses to lay next to the other two and they all will mirror. Coral has a bad grooming habit and pulled a lot of mochas fur out and she just let him, all through the gate. Fudge chooses not to get so close but her and mocha still argue through the gate occasionally. We have an extra short gate that we use to keep Coral from pulling mochas fur and to keep the girls from reaching eachother in an argument. We think mocha went through puberty and got mad at Fudge and now has all these hormones and they poop everywhere because they all get territorial. Even cleaning it up every day Coral will get mad that we took them and purposefully poop everywhere again lol. The girls are a lot better but still mark the territory. They rub their chins on everything and everyone. They all can see eachother through the gates when they eat and they sit close. All the bunnies still trust us at different speeds, and they have favorites with eachother and us humans. Coral seems to like me a lot, mocha loves my husband the most, and fudge has been letting our 6 year old daughter pet her head a lot lately and will visit our daughters room many days on her own. We think Coral and mocha will be a couple, they basically live together all the time and always want to play and mirror eachother a lot. Coral thumps every day because he wants to be with the girls and we won't let him until he's spayed and he is super frustrated about that. It will probably be easier for us to bond with them when they are bonded together and we can let them run free all day every day together. We will have to save about 1500 dollars to have them spayed and neutered and I learned they can still get pregnant for a month after. Gonna be a while but we will get there! We love our bunnies and learn so much from you that's making us better bunny parents all the time. Someday when they are all bonded and happy and roaming free I'll have to send you pictures, maybe you'll rate my setup :) thank you for everything!

They had 11 babies in two liters and I was already getting help from the humane society to re-home them when the second pregnancy happened 😭 I love them all so much still and if I could I would keep every single one of them but they multiply and I can't handle it until I have my own property and my kids are old enough to understand they can't be let out. I was and still am heartbroken that I couldn't keep any of them but I know they got their surgeries and went to new great homes and the parents of all those babies got their surgeries then bonded and re-homed together :') someday I'll be able to help a lot of bunnies and I want to become a vet so I can do surgeries and help them better myself, maybe start a low cost pet clinic or something I'm not sure yet. I only have my cat at the moment and it's going to be a long time before I have a home I can take care of bunnies in but I'll have bunnies again and I'll do it right next time for sure!
