Part 19: • Michael Jai White Rate...
--------
Michael Jai White reacted to WatchMojo's list of the top 20 greatest fighters. He addressed rankings, from Willie Pep at 20 to Sugar Ray Robinson at number 1, revealing notable names, including Jack Dempsey, Daniel Cormier, and Roberto Duran. Vlad and Michael Jai White debated historical and modern competitors in the boxing and mixed martial arts world, such as 14th-ranked Floyd Mayweather Jr, whom they contested should rank higher, and 13th-ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov, whose overall skill set was praised. The hosts questioned Manny Pacquiao's higher ranking than Mayweather, given their head-to-head history, and acknowledged Roy Jones Jr. as having their top-rated offense. The clip included a debate about the sports' greats and how varying fight styles impact rankings. The evolution of technique and the changing physical stature of fighters were also discussed. Bruce Lee's second-place ranking sparked a debate about comparing sports to martial arts, given their combative differences.

Kicks, punches, elbows, movement, etc. He levels above everyone on this list when it comes to a fight with NO limitation. Boxing is just hands. They wouldn’t know what to do with a calf kick, or an elbow to the face, or a round house kick to the face. A street fight, a top tier MMA fighter is beating any top tier boxer. A Tyson, or someone like that would have a punchers chance cause of the power and speed…. But if kicks and elbows are involved, or grappling… it’s a whole different ball game.

    • @@therumbleinthejunglee When George took up boxing and got in the ring for the first time, he began throwing his opponents around and stuff, and the coach had to educate him about the ruleset and that he'll have to whoop with his fists only. That's what George was alluding to when he said that he'd be a MMA fighter today. But if he'd really pick MMA over boxing, nobody knows, including him. Look how much the elite heavyweights like Fury and Joshua earn compared to UFC fighters. As a matter of fact it's questionable wether George would be fighting at all. Back then he grew up without the possibility to go to college... Football and basketball wasn't what it later would become. If George was born 40 years later, he'd have totally different opportunities.

    • Joe Louis guard is the fundamental guard ALL great fighters had. Some just put a little flavor to it, like Ray Robinson or Ali and Ray Leonard. Mike Tyson had a unique, side to side technique that was different, but the greats had the Joe Louis style that was modified by Eddie Fitch and Emmanuel Steward. Floyd Mayweather jr modified a bit more and incorporated the old school Philly shell, and became the best ever, but it starts with the fundamental Joe Louis style the MJW is belittling. Fighters today aren't as good because they DONT fight with this technique, instead, they use the modern Mexican fighting style for the most part, standing upright, on the center line, instead of off to the side, lead hand out, right hand defending the hook, old school style, dig?

  • Its not about who beat who. Manny Pacquiao came up from straw weight and was dominating natural middle weights like dela hoya and moseley. Listen to max Kellerman break down how impressive it is to be an EIGHT division champion. Thats why he's high on list. That and he absolutely wrecking fighters at 120lb. Something that had never been seen before a 120 pounder with power. And yes a wrestler would give a boxer problems but why pretend like a boxer wouldn't give a wrestler problems. Why pretend like mastering one style makes you more of a dominant fighter than someone whos mastered another discipline? BOXING IS FIGHTING this isnt debatable. A great boxer will give ANYBODY smoke. There's a difference between knowing how to hit and being able to hit. A mma guy may have trained his hands to break stuff but what good is that against a trained boxer if you cant land any of those strikes.

    @elijaharvinger1178@elijaharvinger11785 ай бұрын
    • I agree with your Pacquiao point but not the other. An elite MMA guy will pretty much always beat the elite boxer in a MMA or street fight. Boxing is a sport when someone is knocked down you get a chance to get up, that doesn't happen in MMA. Wrestlers will still have better kicks, knees and elbows than the boxers they're stronger in the clinch with much better knowledge of ji jitsu too. That's why MMA guys have to cross over to boxing because it wouldn't be as competitive boxers going to MMA. James Toney Vs Randy Couture is a good example. Francis Ngannou beat Tyson Fury boxing imagine what he would to do him in the octagon lol.

Some of these fighters lower than them on the ranks could have or already beaten some of the fighters at the top of the list for example, but the fighters at the top of the list have achieved much more in their respective fields (titles, title defenses, status etc.) which makes them great. It's like CR7 Vs Messi. (My opinion) I think CR7 is the more complete footballer and is better than Messi but Messi is GREATER as he has achieved more and won everything. Greater Vs Better are two different things.

First he says that Willie Pep was a small guy, which has nothing to do with the fact that Pep was still a greater boxer than Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. Then later he says that GSP being ahead of Jon Jones is odd because in a fight Jones would beat GSP. The other thing is MJW's negative opinion on boxers in a fighting context. Yes, that list is BS because boxers and MMA fighters shouldn't be on the same list... It's two different sports. But boxers can definitely take care of themselves in a street fight. Being limited to boxing doesn't mean that you're at disadvantage, especially if you mastered boxing. If you've become good at boxing, there's nothing easier than adding a self defense system and BJJ to your arsenal.

Let's take athletics for example: Yohan Blake is blazingly fast, Usain Bolt is equally faster - but Usain's heights provided more advantage because for almost the same effort (energy burned) Usain covered more distance than Yohan Blake due to having longer strides. Hence his most of his wins look effortless especially since he tended to start jogging right towards the end of a race.

Then you have a 170lbs MMA guy lets just say he can box, do muay thai, and BJJ he has access to a ton of weapons and would kill the bodybuilder only because the bodybuilder would have no idea how to stop all the attacks or block all the attacks. Size only matters if guys are equal in skill and experience.
