Start of Summer Season at Bern Airport: The First Holiday Flight this Year!
The summer season of 2024 at Bern Airport kicked off in grand style on Sunday 28th April 2024. The airport firefighters welcomed the first holiday charter flight, an Avanti Air Dash 8-Q400, with a spectacular water cannon salute. Avanti Air operated the inaugural holiday charter flight from Bern to Calvi with a load of over 50 passengers. This marked an exciting beginning to the new season!
The Bombardier Dash 8-Q400, a versatile turboprop aircraft known for its reliability and efficiency, has earned the nickname "The Workhorse of the Skies." This nickname is well-deserved due to the Dash 8-Q400's exceptional performance and capabilities.
Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A engines, the Dash 8-Q400 can reach speeds of up to 667 km/h. Despite its impressive speed, this aircraft is also fuel-efficient, making it a popular choice for regional airlines looking to minimize operating costs.
With a range of approximately 2,500 kilometers and the ability to accommodate around 70 passengers, the Dash 8-Q400 is perfect for short to medium-haul flights. Its ability to operate on shorter runways and in diverse weather conditions further enhances its reputation as a reliable workhorse in the aviation industry.

Excellent footage of this Q400, it's great to see this nice seasonal visitor at Bern and that is fun having direct flights to Corsica! That's nice you got a tour through this impressive turboprop, and even the cat had to come give it a quick inspection 😃

Wonderful video, Matt! I've taken dozens of trips on Dash-8's, they used to be the primary plane at our local airport, flying to to all points along the West Coast of the USA. They've now been replaced by E175's, which are also nice planes...

Those noisy and loud Dash 8 Turbo Prop's!... My ears are still ringing from being in one. And that was 12 years ago! LOL. A beautiful machine though.
Landing in Calvi is always tricky. Always Landing from the sea ,doesnt matter wind direction because Mountain is in front of😮
