  • Shane is the closest any-one has come to knocking out Mayweather.

    • Respectfully disagree. Those two shots he landed were neither skilled nor controlled... The first one, he lunged out of position with little-to-no balance and Floyd saw it coming at the last second, thus was able to absorb it comfortably. The second shot, Shane threw with his eyes closed, and caught Floyd simple because he was "guess wrong" on the combination(similar to how when Kovalev dropped Ward in the first fight, Ward didn't technically do anything wrong... he merely guessed that the 2 wasn't coming behind the 1 and had guessed wrong), and Floyd easily recovered and proceeded to break Mosley down. People like to say Mayweather has no power, well if that was the case fighters would simply bull-charge him and overwhelm him with punching power. Floyd has just enough power to make the opposing fighter think to himself "Do I really want to be a KO victim in front of millions of people around the world?" and said fighter usually withers away into a shell... losing a wide decision. The closest anyone ever came to KOing Mayweather, IMHO, was Maidana. And not the first fight where he also became the closest fight of Floyd's career(as well as the only fighter to LEGITIMATELY not lose on a scorecard... No Oscar and Canelo don't count, as Floyd easily beat both of them and those judges that scored in their favor were clearly crooked). At the very end of the third round, Maidana clocked Floyd with an overhand right which was beautifully set-up... During the first fight, and early in the second, Floyd had been countering Maidana with the pull-counter... his signature punch. The counter is set up by leaning forward on to the front foot with the left hand low... thus inviting either the jab/lead-hook/straight-right... Floyd then shifts his weight to his rear foot, loading the right-hand... as the opponents punch sails by, the opponent falls into the pocket, Floyd then counters, using the fighters forward momentum against them to make the punch harder than is should be normally. Maidana actually countered this, by throwing a weak jab, ducking under Floyds straight right, and landing an overhand right of his own... thus using Mayweathers momentum against him... Countering the Counter-puncher. It was a brilliant move, and had Mayweather on queer street at the bell. Maidana then came out and very effectively pressured Mayweather in the fourth round, having his most successful round in the two fights. That was all though. Floyd adjusted, resorted to alot of dirty tactics on the inside, and held any chance he got just to get out of the fight and preserve the Pacquiao Pay-Day that would happen next.
