  • Is this video really the way the SNP elite see Scottish citizens? How condescending and insulting.

  • @geetarwanabe It seems that its only the Labour Councils that are struggling. No surprise there given the state of the UK economy another benchmark of Labour "economics". I could mention the bankruptcy of Aberdeen City Council between 1995 and 2003 as another example...

  • @Southsidestu What I'm saying is that you don't understand what the actual failing of the Irish economy was, and what Salmond was proposing. The Irish economy did not fail because of it's low corporation tax rates, infact it prospered because of them. It's this aspect of the Irish economy that the SNP wished to mimic. The Irish economy failed because the ECB set interest rates that were low to benefit Germany, and not an open economy like Ireland - which fueled a property bubble.

  • Record levels of current and planned investment by oil companies in the North Sea don't persuade me the oil is running out soon. Against that day, however, the SNP-led Scottish Government has done more than any previous Scottish or UK Government to promote renewable energy, which, given our wind, tidal, and hydro resources will make us a net energy exporter (even without the oil) within the next twenty years. The Scottish economy is in profit, the UK in deficit. We can afford to go it alone!

  • at the end of the day this is down to a viewpoint. When your banks are saved by the union, when Salmond focuses on our key resources being oil which is finite and tourism from the US now damaged by the release of Megrahi it inspires little confidence and maybe i was short sighted on Ireland but when you have a leader who says before the crash lets do it like Ireland and lets do it like Iceland and they both tank that again inspires little confidence.

  • @Southsidestu But you keep repeating that Salmond is trying to copy Ireland, and then making reference to the collapse of the Irish economy as if he it was that he was trying to mimic. Salmond wished to have a more competitive corporation tax rate to increase FDI, and to enable more local enterprises to be setup. Economically, this makes perfect sense. So why do you keep making reference to Ireland, when it's clear - the Irish economic collapse was not because of our corporation tax?

  • @SeanOBriain Agreed, Scotland does not need the union, most unionists (particularly English too) seem to be emperialists that like the idea of the "Great British empire" and want to keep the pretence up that it still exists rather than what's best for Scotland alone.

  • @smartwarlord The historical ties to Canada, Australia, US and NZ is largely insignificant and irrelevant to Scotland's future best interests and is over represented to the Scots today. The English are no more influential than the Scots were in their own right, Winston Churchill (English) says what no historian on this earth can argue with ~ "Out of all nations on this earth, perhaps only ancient Greece can beat the Scots when it comes to the contribution of mankind".

  • @smartwarlord Cont..."Scots created the modern world in the same way that the ancient Greeks created the old world". Also, sharing a close proximity border with a foreign nation does not make the people of either nation on each side of the border the same, the English are as different from the Scots as they are from the French across the Channel, they have their own origins in the way Scots have theirs. Hence they will always be termed as another country rather than 'fellow islanders' to most.

  • ..continued. So what the SNP was proposing was actually economically sound. Your high corporation tax limits the amount of FDI or local small to medium-sized enterprises that can be established - Which is exactly what would be required if Scotland was to become independent (In every sense of the word). I actually find it interesting that you feel the Scottish people do not have the political tact to control their own affairs and Govern themselves. Scotland doesn't require the union.

    @Southsidestu@Southsidestu13 жыл бұрын
  • @SeanOBriain So basically you are saying that a country that follows the economic model of Ireland will be fine and dandy no problems at all that Ireland is an exception? Corporation Tax and interest rates from the ECB are not the only factors in a successfull economy. Salmond believed in the Irish economic model which failed, our banks relied on Britain to be save them he underestimated what Scotland could achieve if it was independant which has been the focus of the SNP since day 1

    @Southsidestu@Southsidestu13 жыл бұрын
  • Unusual that the SNP would decide to rip off something from a group of performers who were one yank, one welshman and the rest English maybe he has finally got the message about no to independance. Thank God we werent independant when the recession came about one bank was merged with and English one the other bailed out by the BRITISH taxpayer, not to mention Salmonds idea of following the economic models of Ireland and Iceland, plus his plan of sustainability with a renewable enrgy like oil.

In fact it makes them more qualified in their field whether it be basic politics or healthcare (medical degree, nursing), Justice (law degree), education (teaching). That makes them most qualified to improve OUR services for us. Words are wasted on you however, I suggest you invest in some logic; it will help you see sense instead of being blighted by stereotypes and sticking to the past. It will help.

  • @Southsidestu Um, I believe Salmond wished to reduce corporation tax, which would entice FDI and ease the process of local business startups. That was not the reason why our economy here in Ireland collapsed. It collapsed because of low interest rates from the ECB, which fueled a property bubble. It was because of our low corporation tax that we have any FDI retained at all. You clearly lack an understanding of the economics of Ireland. Perhaps you might research before you post sound-bytes.

  • @NOVATICANWARS - Ah dear me; you will never listen to reason will you? (rhetorical question). It is not a hate for england that drives us to independance - you do not know the SNP if you think otherwise. We merely want to address our own issues, to be self determining, as we are of different ideology almost, form the rest of Britain - and the current gov shows this - we are more left wing, socialist even than the conservative government.

Its not revenge putting him infront of a court and judging that he is guilty and should spend the rest of his life in jail is it? that is JUST, it is UNJUST the fact that he has been released and is able to live a free life and turned into a hero - SNP facilitated that. also if ye care aboot mercy so much why not realease aw the ill prisoners? laughable

  • Brilliant video this should be posted to all unionist voters, that'll shut them up as the SNP have done an excellent job for Scotland the past 4 years, 94 manifesto commitments and counting, all from a party that still only has "minority status", even a die hard Labour supporter said just two weeks ago that although he doesn't support full outright Scottish independence, he'll be voting SNP because of the excellent job they've done so far, just imagine what SNP can do with a majority government.

  • @smartwarlord "Celt" is a highly lose made up term from the 18th century that refers to the Indo-European invaders that originated in Iberia (modern day Spain), this is as opposed to the Germanic (Dutch, Franks, Norse, Saxons, Angles, Jutes etc). The Celts didn't replace the native inhabitants of the lands they migrated too, they were eventually subsumed by the natives, leaving only cultural impacts. The Scots largely descend from the native Pictish Caledonian ancestors as genetic research shows

    @segano1@segano113 жыл бұрын
    • History only goes back to the 1890s. Celts actually come from certain Germanic places too. Don't confuse with the neolithic Iberians. They say most Scots are more Scandinavian (viking), anyway.

Scotland does not have the means to be in a state of splendid isolation in an increasingly globalised world. Or, perhaps what you really meant was that you only mind the darker skinned people coming to Scotland.

  • Ok let me get this straight. We seperate from UK, one of the major countries in eu, just so we can make our own "decisions". Two reasons this is bad: we will have less say in eu, as will England, so they have more control over both of us, and judging by Russia's reaction of Ukraine being pro-eu, i would not say that being ruled by eu is any better. Reason two: even if we get independence, we still don't get to make decisions, guess who does: the Scottish govt. They are smart, they will give us options to vote on which then makes us feel as if we are making all these decisions but actually, it will be the same as in UK because we do not choose what we vote, we just vote for what they choose. Either way, the Scottish PEOPLE are not getting any independence, all we are getting is new DICATATORS. Vote Yes or No because either way nothing will change for US, if you want independence for real and want to be FREE PEOPLE then rule No. 1 do not vote in parties that will rule you
