I stay on snowrunner I have the same vehicles It s a Little shame to product a new game with same vehicle than the previous game
hmm... i mean i'll let it cook and see how it pans out, but so far the gameplay loop looks to be more my style, and the physics seem way better, plus it seems like the suspension isn't as stiff and i can see that the frame on trucks have some twist to them unlike snowrunner which has them being completely rigid. also with a name like mudrunner "expeditions" i've no idea why them kids would be expecting roads and hauling trailers on said roads like ats or the easier maps on sr, besides an expedition on road sounds rather boring no? also happy to hear trailers are absent, always hated dealing with em, mainly the wagons/ones with the front axle that rotates. i can' reverse one of those to save my life XD
@@Arycuak it's much lesser vehicles aswell. Almost all of the BIG trucks and heavy duty trucks are gone. Because this is more of a scouting game

@@jimmykarlsson2567 but it doesn't have to be. I mean look at Forza as an example, it was a sim until they made horizon and now they have two games, one for sim racers and one for a more casual audience. If you look at snowrunner and expeditions I think they are trying to do something similar. Have one game that's main line and focused on trucking and (unrealistically) hard trails, and then have another game that's focused on exploration pathfinding and trail riding with reasonable (realistic) terrain, since they figured out that a large portion of players ignore the trucking entirely and don't like the (unrealistic) difficulty of the terrain. Either way it ain't like expeditions is effecting snowrunner, like snowrunner is still getting another year of content, an expeditions just gives other players more options for an off-road style of game to play, not everybody likes trucking or unrealistically difficult terrain.
thank you for this; i've been feeling the same as your boys, but wanting something new. i think i'll wait til more content comes out and maybe pick it up on discount. i still have loads of SnowRunner to play
Solid review. I agree completely with the weird changes to the UI and controls. The having to go back to headquarter (menu) is a big let down too.

As a mod creator for snowrunner and expeditions now I think expeditions is far better why bc we can convert our mods from snowrunner to expeditions with no fuss easy wasy. Expeditions has better functionality runs way smoother along with that it had an updated game engine. The reason why multiplayer didn’t come is bc they are trying to make it better and fix things what they didn’t with snowrunner. So I think it’s better to way for it and hope they improved it. This is what really frustrates me people buying the game right and having access 5 days early then saying they want a refund 🤨 first of all people need to know it’s not the finished product at all, every game at launch has issues and updates to fixes it no different to expeditions. Expeditions will definitely be better than snowrunner after a few major updates. Expeditions has far far more better graphics improvements. One thing I was talking to a developer of expeditions and suggested u need to add DLSS to the game.
Fair points for sure, and I think a person's decision on refunding via Steam is highly dependent upon how they like to play. My kids miss the heavy loads in Expeditions, didn't buy the game on sale so have little reason to keep it and wait, but they had to make a decision before their 2 hours of playtime was up with Steam. For them, they'd rather sink their money into Snowrunner DLCs and revisit Expeditions later. I, on the other hand, prefer Expeditions currently, I just miss having my kids with me in-game...which I know would come. It just surprised me Focus Entertainment would fully release the game without multiplayer. I think a hefty handful of prospective customers who avoid buying it because of solo-only gameplay will forget to revisit the game after multiplayer release. Thanks for your input...I'm eager to see what mods are created for Expeditions! 😊
I'd like there to be different weather, rain, thunderstorm, snow on higher terrain, wind. Also added 4 periods during the day as snow runner, morning, day, evening and night. Also there is a compass missing in the game and on the map

Why would a game like Snow runner and by extension Expeditions need DLSS? It's not like these games are at the bleeding edge of graphics tech such as to justify the possible performance gains DLSS offers. These games will run fine at native resolution.

It’s also very difficult to tow wrecked vehicles back up Canyons and if you run out of gas or go back to the base the vehicle resets to its original location. I’m not sure why they chose to do this?? In past games the vehicles stayed where you left them.
Hopefully they'll change that if enough players are upset by it. :(
Awesome review. Absolutely subscribed. As to the game, well... I love SR and MR, and I love the cargo hauls as well, I just never loved the ever increasing focus on making you run the same haul 7 times. Fighting the environment and finally getting that load through is huge fun and a great sense of accomplishment. Now having to do the exact same thing 6 more times, on the other hand? Not so much. One of the things I always loved in SR and MR, though, was being dropped into a new map, deploying my trusty scout and go explore absolutely everything. So Expeditions works great for me, because it's nothing but one of the parts I loved the most in the predecessors. I wouldn't have minded some hauling (just not lather/rinse/repeat hauls), but if this is what I've got, then I'm happy. Also, I love the bright colors after all of the at times depressing brown, black and grey. Now back to the game... Just ONE more expedition before bedtime! 😁
It's ALWAYS "just one more!" 🤣 Thank you for your insight about which MR/SR fans might find Expeditions especially appealing. Rinse/repeat gets boring for me too. Once there are new maps and DLCs and mods for Expeditions, I think a whole new fan base will come to the game...it's drawing me back in! 🥰
I played Snowrunner a bit but actually the long hauling over the same distances got me bored. I find this game much more appealing.
Agreed, scout-lovers will likely find the puzzles of finding a path intriguing...and truck selection is also an enigma. My pimped out Loadstar failed miserably on a mission where the weird little nimble Cotco excelled in the rocky, cramped terrain. It's fun to figure it all out. :)
I feel the same way. I played some Snowrunner on PC and found the long hauling boring. I enjoy figuring out the perfect route for my expeditions. This game definitely requires some patience but I am thoroughly enjoying the experience on Nintendo Switch, flaws and all.

The funny thing is, this is the first mudrunner game I’ve really got into because of the exploration focus. I never liked cargo hauling-it always felt like busy work rather than play. But I really enjoy finding new locations and figuring out how to get from point a to b without roads. Anyway, another bug I hope they fix is the ground textures, which keep popping between high res and low res on my PS5.
Same for me...I play Snowrunner but not with the same enthusiasm as I do Expeditions. I hope the upcoming console patch helps your textures, as I know it was an issue their patch notes said they are addressing. 😊

I think in a few months, with co-op and patches, they'll have a solid game for scout-lovers or Runners looking for a new twist on a familiar formula. For the price of a dinner out, I think it's worth it, but it's definitely not going to appease pavement-loving long-haulers. Thanks for your comments!😊

KZhead recommended this review because I follow a lot of SnowRunner content. Your commentary pretty much aligns with other reviews I read or watched. On Reddit I’ve read a few complaints about the UI and UX, the reuse of several assets and trucks from SnowRunner, and the constant shifting from menus to driving to menus etc. Others complained about the experience in general, which seemed to them more ‘on rails’ than the freedom of movement allowed in SnowRunner. And then there’s the matter of the price, which many people simply find too high for what the game offers. After watching a lot of gameplay, I think I agree with all these complaints and find that the negatives outweigh the positives for now. I have the feeling that Expeditions has been a bit rushed out the door and needed more time and more polish. I’ve played Early Access games on Steam made from indie developers which have fewer bugs and feel more ‘baked’ than Expeditions. I was looking forward to this title, after spending 500+ hours in MudRunner and 1,600 hours in SnowRunner. I don’t dislike Expeditions and its base concept. I usually love scouting and exploring maps in SnowRunner. But I guess I’ll wait for a sale. I liked your review and will check out your channel for more! Keep up the good work. Cheers! //Rick
I think for Runner fans who feel Snow/Mud are becoming a tad stale, Expeditions will be refreshing with the tech and new terrain. And, if you compare it to COD (which is like $80-ish), the $40 doesn't seem that bad I guess. I understand the hesitancy, as my boys feel the same way, but for the price of a nice meal out, the game offers many hours of entertainment IF it's the style one likes. 🥰
Are not all expeditions available at the moment for ps5 im 5 expeditions in on Arizona map and everything is still locked just curious

So do you do missions by tracking them in open world like Snowrunner or are they just selected from the main menu? Are there missions in the open world?
Yes, the missions are the "expeditions" you select from the menu back at base, but there are tasks and other objectives to be found as well as upgrades and other goodies to sell.

I remember a year or two ago I was like "I wonder what a runner game would be like if they focused on mostly scouting?" Well this was it as a guy that always thought the smaller trucks seemed kinda adorable compared next to the big off road monsters like the kats I feel like if they ever add the tuz 420 I would mind it debatable op in a future swampy map it doesn't have to float but I can imagine it easy going through deep mud with no effort but end of the tangent I just cant wait for the lovable scout 800.

I actually re-installed Mudrunner: American Wilds gearing up for this release, haven't fired it up in about two years. Totally enamored all over again, and stoked that less than 2% of players got the "complete downhill on hardcore" achievement I just earned. 😂 I'm looking forward to expeditions, and appreciate your review. I think as long as I go in with the mindset that it's a spin-off and not a true sequel to the previous two, I'll be alright. My physical copy should be arriving this week!
THAT is a great mindset to have for Expeditions. It's DIFFERENT than both other Runners but fun for those who aren't set on trailer-towing and long hauls on pavement. Enjoy reliving your Mudrunner experience! I just found my kids' old Mudrunner copies in the game closet...they're on CD-ROM. 🤦♀️

Thank you for saving me from buying this on launch. Subbing. I've been with the series since Spintires and I thought Snowrunner lacked a lot of depth in the physics. You had to kinda make your own fun in it but I much prefer the experience in Mudrunner over Snowrunner
I'd keep an eye on Expeditions, and as they add content, it might become more appealing to those looking for something a tad different than Snowrunner. 😊

Never played snow or mudrunner game before, wanted to try something different from Zeldas, Cyberpunks, Godofwars, Eldenrings etc. And got hooked for days. This game mixes up zen moments, planning and some intense situations really well. But it's never really frustrating. When you plan your route/equipment and customizations almost perfectly on a really hard mission, man...that just clicks
That's a very well-phrased explanation of how I feel about Expeditions too. It has moments of excitement, strategic planning, and a oneness with nature that's refreshing. Solid review. I put a ton of hours into both Mudrunner and Snowrunner, and am enjoying the heck out of this game. I've seen a lot of people getting quick refunds due to not realizing free roam is a thing. I've also seen a surprising amount of complaints based on an odd bit of misinformation claiming you have to "drive in circles" to fulfill a sub-mission type that asks you to explore a certain area... but that's meant to be fulfilled by using binoculars and/or the drone, as shown in one of the earliest missions. As far as the UI goes, it's not perfect, but imo it's nowhere near as bad as some posts make it out to be. I think the issue is more that it's different when compared to Snowrunner versus actually being horrible. Since my time spent in Snowrunner was months ago, I'd already forgotten that UI, and the new one just makes sense to me. Knowing myself, I would be much more confused if I'd come straight over from recent Snowrunner sessions, so I'm glad I had that break in order to look at this as more of a fresh game. It's too bad short refund windows are causing so many to refund this game. I feel like this is the sort of game that takes more than two hours to know for sure whether it's for you. Especially with free roam for each map being locked behind multiple missions. That said, I expected a lot of negativity day one, just because things are different and it takes time to adjust to change. I've noticed most of the people who've had codes for awhile and are avid players of this series are giving positive reviews, which leads me to believe the general reception will improve once players put more time into the game. A month or two from now, there will be a lot of re-purchasing of refunded games. Maybe by then some bugs will be worked out - and multiplayer added - which will help things even further. This game has loads of potential. It'll be cool to see where it goes.
I completely agree. If my kids had purchased it at a significant discount, they probably would have kept it, but at least this way, if they see it on sale, they'll likely consider adding it back to their Steam libraries. Like you, I haven't played a ton of recent Snowrunner, so I'm having quite a bit of fun with Expeditions, and it's worth the $40-$70 for the hours of entertainment. If I spent that in a restaurant, it would just turn into, well, you know. 💩😂

I played and still play and love snowrunner which still gets quarterly updates and i love it. But this game is confusing. I also had to restart it once to make the radardish delivery work. And now it tells me to use a drone which i do but nothing ever happens. The map feels ultra small. I dont know what to do next and am confused. is it bugged? Then why if i change things on my vehicle the camera doesnt show me properly what changes? For example wheels all zoomed in on front wheel. i want to see backwheels too. This might become the first game i will refund in 20 years of gaming. This cant be after snowrunner was so good. I might get back to it after i see some more footage if it looks better after some updates. Right now i am just unsatisfied.
My game bugged out at the delivery part of the tutorial (as did my son's), so clearly they have some bugs to fix...and maybe before the official full release this week. The gadgets and missions are a bit different coming from Snowrunner, so it's taking me a bit to grow accustomed to them as well. The Little Colorado map is pretty good for helping one learn the ropes.
I also refunded myself, to me it felt like a repackage of snowrunners instead of a new game.. The addition of all these gadgets and style of scouting to me could have been a DLC for Snowrunners itself, also has no multiplayer on day 1 considering this game is much more enjoyable having a crew of friends or fam to convoy and get into funny accidents and misadventures with :/ genuinely disappointed. I personally think it would be worth discounted and after it goes through it’s content cycle and gets updates. Thank you for the review!

I'm not going to lie I was a little bummed at first when playing expeditions cuz I was definitely expecting snowrunner 2. After playing for a few hours and realizing that it's supposed to be a different game I have been enjoying it quite a bit. I do think the perfect game would be snow runner and this smashed together lol
Yeah, it's NOT Snowrunner 2, so those going into Expeditions with that hope will likely be disappointed (like my kids). Glad you're learning to enjoy Expeditions for its uniqueness. 🥰

Yep, I agree. My kids just adore the long hauls in Snowrunner, so they didn't have the patience for solo Expeditions, at least right now. I, however, am an introvert and am loving the crap outta my evening Expeditions gaming. 😆

I wish they'd have made a Mudrunner Game instead of just going Snowrunner: copy-paste: new game. This game couldve been a Snowrunner region DLC. Im still playing Mudrunner since the driving simulation is straight up superior to Snowrunner.
Having not bought Snowrunner DLCs, how much do those usually cost and what amount of content do they add? I'm legit curious, not contesting your opinion. :)
@@BuckeyeBunny having bought every DLC as parts of "year" packs, I can say they are well worth it for the cost of the content atleast. Ofcourse it depends on the size of the region, but I guess if the "theme" of a set region was that there were no real roads and only Scout-focused objevtives, it would essentially mirror exactly everything on display for Expeditions, other than new visual customization and gadgets, aswell as the negatives of Expeditions ofcourse (UI, controls, performance and stability are all downgrades from Snowrunner...)
@BuckeyeBunny the DLC maps for snowrunner are huge. Way better than the base game. The snow maps are hard and they even have farming in one DLC where u use tractors and grow and deliver potatoes. Worth the money

Just saying as someone who nrver owned a snowrunner or mud runner but have watched countless hours on both games . I spent my $80 on the ultimate edition and before my play session yesterday which was all day i got 88 hours in the game so far and i promise you if you use all the amenities added in thisngame like the oush function on wench or anchors u can pull some straight up spiderman ish eith your trucks and not to mention the Modding community is already blessing crazy rn so the argument about trucks is null and void to me i respect those who want big item hauling...but the cargo added to the flatbeds and the frame addons def dont make your car lighter and im sorry but the roads in expeditions to me look way more difficult than mudrunner and snowrunner again i never played so maybe im wrong but i also heard that past games the trucks felt like paperweights and trust me when i say each truck feels vastly different in this game...idk for the base at $40 i see this gane totally worth it

$40 for content that was just ripped and made a lot more limited, nahhhhhhhhh. This could of just been a free game or a cheap game / demo, to get people into Snowrunner But once co-op is out, then i can see me picking it up on sale. Hopefully they allow co-op with randoms, i don't see any of my friends picking this up sadly

Go here. Nothing happens. Marker dissappears, then travels where it tells you (Marker), then dissappears again. Shit feels lacklustre atm just go there go here go there i dont mind that but this is boring with the dissappearing markers etc I know this was probably just pushed out there for that money because it's linked to the other games
I've had a few markers get bugged, and the UI most definitely needs work because it's so confusing, especially to Snowrunner players. BUT, I will say that after about 10 hours in the game, I'm really enjoying the planning and methodical missions with gadgets and the pretty map. It's not for everyone, but I find it relaxing and challenging. :)
Hmmm... I really liked the early Snowrunner games, they where mysterious and great, especially in Kola Peninsula and Amur where one has to find remote research bases, ghost towns, transport rocket parts to launch a space rocket. Awesome :) The later Snowrunner seasons dumbed down to boring casual construction site delivery driver simulator with always the same boring repetative concrete - bricks - wood deliveries, with not one exotic fascinating and interesting mission or location. I did not play these anymore. The new Expeditions is .... a strange game. All these strange menus, the missions are strange, the driving and the complete feel of this game feels kinda bad and boring, everything is so stupid guided with gameplay-on-rails, every ten seconds another message what nonsense (that has nothing to do with offroad-driving) I MUST do next (or the mission will not continue) ....binoculars, drones, finding scarecrows that show me the way, turning the camera this way or that way, driving up this hill this way even if there is a way better path over there. Playing this gamey game with super-annoying neverending tutorials about every button and function and everything feels like catered for dummys with holding hands and player-guiding every ten seonds is sooooooooo annoying and exhausting. Every 20 yards the next field pops up one must drive on with the next nonsense pops up - telling me where I need to look next (or else the mission will not continue if I don´t turn the camera or drone into a certain direction the game enforces to do), what I have to do with my car next (or else the mission will not continue), what stupid function like binoculars drones etc. I MUST use now (or else the mission will not continue), where I MUST rotate my camera next (or the mission will not continue)...... all of this absolutely does not feel the same as the awesome, free, self-determined REAL offroad adventures in the early Snowrunner Seasons. It feels so annoying and so boring and every ten seconds the drive gets interrupted because one is forced to do the next and next and next stupid boring thing related to all these annoying cumbersome un-intuitive menus and useless new functions. I personally don´t really feel anything positive and motivating that clicks when starting this game, it is very annoying and overloaded with nonsense functions and absolutely not the same as the exciting old early mysterious Snowrunner seasons that really gave the feeling of getting out there in the wild uncharted territory on one´s own. I really want to like this new Snowrunner-wannabe-spinoff but somehow can´t ... feels kinda like a very VERY strange alpha-mod for Snowrunner.

@@BuckeyeBunnyAfter having played Expeditions Mudrunner for some time now I guess I like it more than Snowrunner :) This wild outdoors research camp and the meteorological - desert - wildlife - science research atmosphere is awesome. The missions are nice and all these gadgets and toys are purely optional and not necessary every ten yards like the annoying tutorial map wanted me to belive. And there is still stuff to transport around on the map. Mostly science stuff like antennas fuel tents equipment and dinosaur bones *ggg. But the developers have nerfed the traction of the tires too much, it was excellent and super realistic driving before with RWD and 4x4 (or even diff loc) was only needed when going uphill or in harsh terrain - now my truck gets stuck constantly with rear wheel drive only even in easy terrain and it wants to drift sideways when trying to go straight ahead. If the developers add some better tire traction and remove this stupid quick-time event like minigame with the wandering bar to the left and right when finding an archeological site but make it an automatic camera scene (like finding a watchtower in Snowrunner) this game is perfect!
@@juliashenandoah3965What a surprising and awesome re-assessment of Expeditions!!! :) I sure hope they listen to feedback and make some tweaks in upcoming patches. I too noticed the poor traction. I put a lift kit on my Don, and the rear end was super squirrely, I popped it into 4WD, and it gripped like a jacked-up Stomper (gosh, that makes me sound super old to reference that old toy!). 😂

As a long time fan of the previous games in the series, I am very disappointed in this game, in its current state. I can totally feel the potential, but it is buggy and clunky, in so many ways. I bought the most expensive version, here’s hoping that it gets better with age. So tired of these expensive, unfinished games.
Sucks to be disappointed by a game; it's definitely not Snowrunner, and some don't enjoy the calmer, methodical gameplay and planning. If you want a challenge, you might try the mod map called The Islands, which can be found in the mod browser in the game.
Get them the original mudrunner👍

Game isn’t anything but 19.99 DLC and a poor addition overall. Snowrunner was amazing with issues aside. This is a swing and a miss overall.
For those who don't like the expedition-style missions, I think we're going to hear a lot of this in the initial reviews. I get it. It's not for everyone. Appreciate your input. 😊

Are you referring to the graphics or gameplay? I've heard the graphics described as "arcadey," which I think has to do with the clarity/contrast with the more vibrant colors.
@BuckeyeBunny I'm referring to the game play. I understand full realism isn't entirely fun, but using skills and some planning to traverse the land in a realistic fashion is absolutely fun. Learning the limitations of each truck and making it get through areas it otherwise shouldn't can be rewarding. The heavy use of the winch available in every direction and the ever convenient anchor makes the game lame and more into the casual arcade sim that I feel doesn't have the audience the developer is assuming.

I have over 2000 hrs in Snowrunner. I love that game. So all the colors are bright frilly pinks and greens and purples.. WHY? Not everyone wants every game to look like fortnite. Honestly this looks like crap. I am severely disappointed. I was goin to buy this but im a 36 yr old heterosexual male, so.. idk. Looks VERY childish, geared fully toward kids. Also the graphics are IDENTICAL to Snowrunner, not any better. Are there any companies left that aren't just going to churn out blatant low effort cash grabs?? This is getting so out of control. This isn't a new game, it's a goddamn DLC.
Well, I will say that the Carpathian map is much greener and similar to SR, and the two desert maps are quite brown/orange, very little pinkish...might be because I run my graphics with a filter that enhances saturation (and make my trucks very girly, lol). :)
I totally disagree with this review, unfortunately it is clear right away that you played a few hours without playing the title as it should be played. For those who say it's a Snowrunner DLC, I recommend buying it and trying it yourself and not relying on reviews (like I did). I am very satisfied and the title is much more difficult than it might seem, they have improved vehicle damage, physics and driving, making it much less boring than Snowrunner, where the objective was to go backwards along the same road 100 times . Here, however, you really have to study the routes well and the panorama that presents itself is fantastic! The textures of the dirt and mud are much more realistic on the trucks than in the old titles and the trucks, although the same, are much more detailed.
No worries, to each their own opinion. I did share that this was my first impressions review and say that I was keeping it because I prefer the gameplay style of Expeditions compared to Snowrunner. It just wasn't the style my kids enjoyed, at least at this point with the current maps and vehicles in Expeditions. 😊 I will add that if you'd like to see a review from someone who played for weeks, check out some of the big channels who were gifted or paid to review the game in advance. I was just trying to share my initial opinion to help those considering buying the game at launch.

You can't give a proper review to a game that hasn't even been released yet. So, yes, I don't trust your review. Edit: She hasn't had enough time with the game. You can see the video and what she has NOT unlocked at ALL. This means she is using a bunch of assumptions and hasn't actually PLAYED the game like you should. She is making a bunch of assertations.
If you bothered to do your homework, you’d have learnt that for those who preorder the Year 1 Edition or Supreme Edition, there’s an “Up to 5 Days Early Unlock” option that unlocked the game on February 29. So the game she has reviewed is the same game that will be available to everyone on March 5. So yeah, I trust her review.
OK...but I've had the game since it pre-released 5 days early because of the game package I purchased.

You played, recorded, edited, wrote script, edited audio and video to fit better than uploaded all within 48 hours? These games are slow start games. They take awhile to play and take awhile to get into fully. Even just looking at your video and watching it, you haven't unlocked the majority of the content. So, let us compare shall we? Imagine we did this with games like, "Banjo Tooie, Runescape, Bloodrayne, Final Fantasy, SnowRunner, Borderlands 2, MudRunner, BravelyDefault, Fire Emblem, Dues Ex, Dragon Age, EarthBound, ElderScrolls, Baulder'sGate, The Evil Within, Amnesia, Fallout, Kingdom Hearts? These are all slow start games, to truly get into the meat of them, you need around 30 hours to get them going. There is no way you have exoerienced all the trucks, maps and missions and all this game has to offer in that time frame, especially watching your video. Just didn't happen.
