  • I think most of these addons are for giving variety and realism to the game. For example I use big cranes for heavy loads because using the small ones doesn't have any sense. I use the K700 or the little cat to move logs or cargo because it's different and sometimes is fun to use them.

    @pilot_xoan@pilot_xoan9 ай бұрын
    • I would only use heavy cranes to load massive cargos to massive trailer since as you saw in the video the small crane loading the plane in was just dumb physics, I would also use it for scout sar tbh

    • Heavy crane is good choice if you have light truck and better handling cargo. Sure it's tedious. In hardcore i use heavy crane for those lost cargo since small crane can sometime flip the truck

      @atk1152@atk11524 ай бұрын
    • Plus the light cranes get really fiddly with big cargo and loading onto your own semi trailer It's rare I use them but when I do, it's because I tipped something with a 4-5 slot cargo and need to both right the truck and reload the cargo

      @TheOneWayDown@TheOneWayDownАй бұрын
  • Heavy cranes would be a lot more useful if they actually had an appreciable amount of extra reach and lift capacity over the smaller loading cranes. Too often something can be in the green circle of a crane's reach but still not able to be hooked onto because of some arbitrary bs like for example trying to latch onto something across a river or one of those many missions where a car is stuck down a ravine and the only way to reach it is to somehow land in there yourself.

  • 8 slot trailer was useful for me in Yukon and Wisconsin for those big building tasks or crafting recipies. Wide, straight roads and quite often on tarmac. New seasons weren't good for it.

    • Yea I'm not sure what mission it was for, but I had extra materials on smithville damn at my garage. I needed to get a few wood and metal beams to Island lake, so I used a P16 with a super semi trailer, and basically took the main road all there. It was kinda fun using something I generally disliked for offroad activities, that is, when my P16 WASN'T struggling with going up hills lol

  • Ah yes, the metal detector, does not detect cargo very well from a distance so you pretty much have to drive up next to the cargo anyway.

    @MarkusHansson@MarkusHansson9 ай бұрын
    • Yeah on those missions I just used Maprunner to find out where I needed to be. Maybe I was doing something wrong but the metal detector never showed me anything useful, even when I was right there at the mission location.

  • Large long loads are way less of a pain with the larger crane. The 8 slot trailer is handy with larger trucks and to avoid multiple trips. Also useful if you just want to bring a large amount of cargo to a main road that makes it easier to offload onto smaller trucks.

  • I have taken to using the 8 slot trailer as a staging platform. Load it with 8 of what ever I need, and pick it off later as needed. I love the Crocodile (Step 33-64) for that role as 'pilot' of the staging platform. Its cheap and has just enough power to move it around even loaded, as least over easy terrain. And oddly, I tend to leave a 'bad' truck with a full size crane there to move cargo around.

  • Regarding what you said at 5:46, you actually don't have to search for them map to map, you just go to the "maps progress page" and then to the "trucks tab" and it will tell you exactly where all your trucks are.

    @KhaledAlfaris@KhaledAlfaris9 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for the tip but it'll still be a back and forth trip between the map I am playing and the map I forgot them into. .long story short it's better for me to not use that feature.

      @SD1ONE@SD1ONE9 ай бұрын
  • Pretty much spot on for me though I do tend to use the 8 slot trailer on a more regular basis with a lot of winch work to drag the tail of the trailer around corners. I also almost exclusively use the heavy crane/log crane because I will take a truck that I otherwise don't care about especially if its a free one given to me and park it somewhere where I need a crane for loading. I only really use the smaller crane for the "spilled cargo over this area of the map" type missions or when I have rolled a truck and want to fully recover everything in one go. One thing that I don't use hardly at all though is putting vehicles on trailers. I either drive the vehicle needed or just winch it behind a another truck. If its something that will require fuel/repair support at the end destination then I will have the tow vehicle loaded out with the right addons and trailer to do so.

      @Gracefulwarrior2124@Gracefulwarrior21249 ай бұрын
  • For the " impractical loading' . Its only because your over extending the boom. If you detach the trailer and park parallel to the trailer with the target cargo on the other side. You will be able to load with a even center of gravity then re attach the trailer. Also why heavy cranes make more sense because they are heavier and can lift with a further extended boom do to the heavy weight and center of gravity

  • Most of your points I agree with, except the scout flatbeds. I'll use those once in a while when I'm opening a map with a scout truck. (often Loadstar) What I really like is that they can back up much easier than medium trailers with their steerable front axles. I'd really love to have a large version of the scout trailers for bigger trucks. (2 slot, center axles) I used to use the 8 slot trailers a lot, but once the Paystar 5600 came out with it's 3 slot bed, I usually just use that and a 4 slot ramped flatbed for 7 cargo and much easier turning.

  • I use the heavy cranes quite often. As a Hardmode player I always have a dedicated maintenance Rig, with a crane and a harvested maintenance trailer and a fuel trasiler on a winch. It's quite comfortable really.

  • This might sound bizarre but I like there being impractical ways to complete tasks. It’s up to the player to find what works and what doesn’t. That’s what I really like about this game is there isn’t really any one way to complete anything. Even if it barely works it’s up to the player to find a better solution.

    @lawnmowerdude@lawnmowerdude8 ай бұрын
  • I use the garage slots, but make sure i retain all of them before switching to another map with a garage. You have to plan ahead more in Hard mode. I will convoy a couple trucks while hauling packed trucks on trailers in that case, which can be pretty fun and irritating at the same time 😂

  • Pretty much sums it up for me as well 😅 I do use the heavy cranes stationary at warehouses as it makes life loading an unloading a lot easier. If they added a log crappler to the telehandler and increased the reach on K-700 log crappler that would make me use them.

  • I still use the heavy crane for big messes I’ve made, especially if I’ve managed to lay over the kenworth 963 or derry special. Those trucks are absurdly heavy, and even modded minicranes can’t really do it sometimes, not enough support on the ground or something you know. I’m not really sure, but maybe it would be particularly helpful in hardcore. This is a really good video things like the fine tune gearbox and not being able to load medium logs with the Russian trak-tor are big pointers. Things like this can make trips in snowrunner dreadful

  • In defense of the ramped flat bed I would suggest using it with a fuel efficient truck like the Azov 64131 to transport thirsty trucks like the Paystar 5600ts across the map to wherever you need that truck to do work, especially if there are paved and dirt roads to get you most of the way there

I also have the offroad trailers mod, making that one trailer fantastic for cats. And garage slots I always do, faster than me sorting my stored vehicles

I like the new one it has much more length. I agree with everything you said, I even forgot the metal detector was a thing. Only exception is garage slots, I use all of them and check before leaving that I didn't left a truck behind.

  • With garage slots I tend to use them for quick access for different style of trucks I need. Like a form of a scout. Cargo hauler, mobil crane, semi tractor, recovery/repair&refuel, and one truck for whatever I happens to need. Like for log transport or something else. I also do try to remember to "retire" them when I need to chance maps or something like that. But it might also work like that for me as most of the trucks I use tends to be "multt-roled" as I can use the truck Im using for cargo hauling to log transport and so on.

I have also used scout flatbeds before, though only the one-wide one. Better than to inch the starter trucks through the backpaths of Black River.

I've also managed to sneak that trailer through places I shouldn't. Like in Tennessee from the garage to the north plant. That was a fun drive with an 8 slot.

    @jackdesanta69@jackdesanta699 ай бұрын
  • I think I used a 8-slot in every season since they came out. I recommend only use them with KOLOB's (preferably with the lift suspension), they have the best combination of natural weight in the vehicle itself to counter the trailers weight, low range engine torque to keep dragging the trailer even when it bottoms out, and 8X8 traction to keep things moving at all times. Kenworth and P12 are to weak for 8-slots, P16 only has RWD. I have had the Boar drag around an 8-slot in Island Lake, Michigan with great success, but that map is largely flat mud. Pretty much with an 8-slot, if you don't want to use a KOLOB, don't bother. It is funny though, I've taken 8-slots places in this game people have no business taking 8-slots. I've damn near bent these trailers into L's at some points trying to jam them around corners they have no business going around. Heck in Season 6 I took 8-slots to the second map and dragged them up around where that broken power pole was. lol 9 chances out 10 I don't care what it takes, if I want an 8-Slot to go somewhere, it's going these. I'll drag it, ram it, winch it, whatever I have to do to make it happen, it's happening. So far the places that have beaten me in that tiny, really sharp L-Turn on the Smithville Dam's, Dam. And in Tennessee (Season 7) those really narrow sharp S-Turns that are on that one road. Those two have beaten me. Anywhere I've thus far wanted to take an 8-slot though, come hell or high water it's bloody gone there one way or another. lol

    • I prefer the 8 slot over the 12 slot variant too. Especially since the 8 slot is less buggy than the 4 slot trailers. One of then jumped into space while i drove over a road barrier. (No idea why those and the debris dont get deleted after you cleared a raod block) I used a hitched and a towed 4 slot with the Femm today to get 3 large pipes to the warehouse in Alaska^^.

I don´t use them either because I like to park my trucks outside the garage but you can actually find them quite easily by using the "Truck" menu in the profile overview. If you go to the "Truck" menu it will list all your trucks and where they are. All trucks that are in a garage storage slot will have the map name and a garage symbol after the map name.

It's a bit of an overkill, but I usually use either 3-bed + 4 slot ramped trailer combination or sideboard semi to deliver most cargos, and I place the crane truck usually at the warehouse or train station (like in Wisconsin). The portion on the front of the Husky is actually a ground penetrating radar.

Granted the Azovs and most DLC trucks are OP but I sometimes try to use the unseen ones just for a bit of a challenge. It'd be interesting if we got a region that only certain trucks could be used to complete missions, and not with specific add ons or something but the cargo can only be delivered on the back of a Freightliner or something. Being forced to not use an OP truck might make people think more about their route planning and so on

      @therealsimu@therealsimu8 ай бұрын
    • @@therealsimu basically if you completed a map and your friend is working on it you have more options for resources. Such as a factory you'd usually need to unlock before fixing up a bridge that would help you complete the map. So you can go on your map. Grab the resources which are easier to access and then go to the garage and store the truck there and bring out that Truck with the resources in multiplayer. As long as you don't store it.

  • A lot of people have forgoten a good use of the 8-sloter. A one way bridge! Altough I Feel it should come with counter steering to thighten the turning radious and foldable landing gear. For scouts... I mean I go with the bandidt with a maintenance frame (talk about overkill). My main play is 3 axle with wall bed and crane or 5th wheel and crane, and the rest I try whatever feels right then and there. The tatra tow crane is a big missed chance to have a big repair amount addon with a small amount of fuel, instead of the maintenance addon wich is the oposite.

  • Like most of the comment section, I agree with the exception of 8-box trailers. I use them a lot. I don’t drag them everywhere, but I put it on my highway truck, tow it where I need, to use as a mobile base. I use a crane to load it onto nimbler platforms and deliver it from there rather than making multiple trips back and forth in the smaller trucks and trailer combos.

  • There are some missions tha are a lot easier using the long crane, and they are excelent to pile long wood boards or to lift very large cargo. I usually use them at the sawmill, but the small crane is more versatile.

  • 1: Yeah, I don't use it either. Never really found use for such detail in low speeds. 2: Eh, it's handy for truck rescues, but yeah, not much real need for it. I mostly use it when I don't wanna bother fiddling with a smaller one. 3: Never used it yet. I still haven't gotten to a point where I need it, because I keep having to restart the damn campaigns! XD 4: Yeah, no. If anything, then it's for a quirk rescue/cargo reload, and then back to the garage, but yeah. No. 5: Sometimes, but mostly as a novel part of a self-imposed challenge. 6: Oh god, no. Cranes only, thanks. The Telehandler is an interesting change, but thankfully only necessary for that one task. 7: Yep. Used it once. That's enough. Anything else is better. 8: They're good for my self-imposed challenge. Using every truck in sequence, one type after the other. 9: Fun idea, bad execution for incompatible engine physics. 10: I have used them a couple times, but I prefer everything else. Bonus: Yeah, same. Completionism. Not much use or fun otherwise. Though I suppose they could be okay for testing trucks out.

  • Everyone is sleeping on the fine tune gearbox. Mainly because reddit say's it is useless. I can tell a huge difference using the gears between L and up to L+ and just barley into L- while using throttle control. It works much better than off road with throttle control. I did 90% of Amur with a GMC Brigadier with top engine fine tune gear box and tunned custom suspension.

  • Nice. I agree. Also since new zikz612 and kenworth.. i've used less the 10x10 azov (for overloading purposes.. i use kenny or zikz612 with that rear crane there are interesting configs for overloading.. and a trailer) For some monster overloads i did try the paystar5700ts.. nice but too fuel thirsty., now kenny takes the place. Also zikz605r is used less due to lower versatility than 612, lack of small crane, lack of low saddle.. all of these are on the new zikz612.. less capable due to overhang, a tad slower, but much more useful. I still use the 605r for contests and as support vehicle.. with fuel tank addon, and 600repair points on roof.. and managed to pack on top of the cab/cistern the ford f750 fully loaded with repairpoints.. it's the monster repair truck and fuel truck, and can also have a hitch trailer, and the extra truck (imposible to put back once fallen.. but it's pretty stable for now.. put with the big crane at garage), but not much for hauling gargo.. 2slot bed too small, 2slot+4slot trailer was my combo.. but with 612 i can have this as well as a crane that brings the potential not only to the 2+4slots but also some overloading with the crane. Better yet the kenny with 3slot+crane+4slot trailer + overloading beats the 8slot semi by far. For this reasons a lot of trucks are not in use anymore.. even taygas, azovs, vorons, all highway, kenny takes the cake in most terains (less powerful on hills), or the new zikz612 for the chalenging terain. Both have a shitload of fuel onboard.. the trucks that can carry multiple tasks and contracts at once in one trip. Also kenworth took the place of aramatsu forester with bigger fuel tank and same log crane+medium logs addon+trailer.

Instead i just overload my truck with unpacked cargo, or use the twinsteer for 4 slot cargos.

  • I do use #1 quite often, I like being able to tune & optimise traction even if it comes at the cost of fuel, #2 I like having dedicated crane trucks at warehouses so I can just drive up without a small crane, #6 I didn't realise a crane could pick up hay, did everything so far with K700 😅, #10 I tend to agree with many in the comments: they are useful in some maps. For the rest I completely agree, pretty disappointed by the Tatra towing module, even if I did use it to recover Derry Special in Ontario a few months ago (and it was as awful as you could think it could've been)
