Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine Vs Pasta Roller. Which is best for a polymer clay artist?
It should be noted that I used soft polymer clay to demonstrate both machines - I didn't want to break my hand trying to get hard clay through the pasta roller! 😂
Make sure you also watch my previous video, where I unboxed my new Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine, which is followed by a short review.

  • The SCULPY machine you are using is Identical to the ATLAS machine I bought years ago for doing Polymer Clay with my daughter. The slots on the back are for the addition of the different pasta rolling attachments (I bought 2 kinds) Never had a lick of trouble with mine other than the fiddly part for attaching it to the countertop, which both your machines seem to have in common with mine. Just my experience.....

  • Do you happen to know if the Makins electronic Turner will work in a Sculpy clay roller? I already have the clay roller, but I didn’t know if the Turner will work in the Sculpy one or if I have to buy a brand new roller and machine?

    • Cindy leith recommends using a piece of glove into the opening. It works well. I have a pampered chef for pasta. I've gone through I can't remember how many of the cheapes but this one has lasted forever and no sign of problems...yet! The sculpey one lasted no time!

  • I want to cut thin strips of clay to a desired shape. What is the best type of base to lay clay onto prior to cutting it so it can be picked up without sticking and also loosing shape?

    @daveymichael6891@daveymichael68913 жыл бұрын
    • I bought a slab of porcelain countertop from my hardware store to work on with my clay, and it really doesn't stick as bad! I still use my sharp, flexible clay cutter to loosen it underneath to avoid any possible sticking, but it's the best thing I've used so far.

      @MustacheCombers@MustacheCombers2 жыл бұрын
    • I lay my clay on parchment paper. You can find it with aluminum foil and waxed paper, i.e., in that part of a store because it's meant for baking. It's designed to not stick. Because of that, you can also leave the clay on the paper and bake them that way, if you like. But if you need to remove it from the paper, it's easier because you lift it and pull the paper away from the clay, rather than the reverse.

  • I think it really depends on the pasta machine. At least, I've seen loads of people who love their pasta machine and, as I have been recently examining many different ones and reading lots of reviews, I think it all depends on the machine, itself. But the Sculpey machine is designed specifically for using with clay. Or, if as some say, it is just a pasta machine with their label on it, at least we know they approve of that one. It so happens I bought a pasta machine the other day and it arrived yesterday afternoon so I plan to try it out shortly. Right now I'm looking for what I need to do to prep it before I use it. One drawback to using a pasta machine is they don't include instructions related to clay-- LOL!

    @marigeobrien@marigeobrien Жыл бұрын
    • Good luck with your new machine - and yep, clay-specific instructions would be amazing! 😆

    • The Sculpey machine is what I started with 7 or so years ago. I don't know if anything has changed since but it was actually NOT good for clay. There were plastic components along the blades that the clay broke down in the course of a year or so. I replaced it with a no name brand from Hobby Lobby that is 100% metal that I'm still using today. Other than that terrible plastic, there is absolutely no difference between the Sculpey machine and all the others in similar range. It has nothing to do with approval and everything to do with making money.

  • I think your pasta machine just sucks tbh. The sculpey machine is idential to my 8$ pasta machine 😀. They just slapped their logo on it and called it a day. I think if they made the rollers with silicone ( like rolling pins) it would be preferable, but otherwise you're paying like 15$ extra just for the box

  • Hi there, I bought a pasta machine thinking that’s what could condition clay. The clay keeps ripping and tearing and does not blend at all. I didn’t realise there was one designed for polymer clay. I will save my pennies and invest in the sculpy one. Thank you.

    • I haven't gotten one yet, I'm on this video because I'm trying to research what to get. I was just on a website where people were talking about the same problem you mentioned and they said to just keep going. Eventually the clay smooths out and it starts working, you just have to pass it through multiple times. Have you gotten the clay machine? Any advice?
