See you in the next video.
Sincerely Samantha Burroughs.
I cut the bag breakfast cereal comes packaged in inside the box and use it for this very purpose. So far it works beautifully. I love repurposing stuff I would have tossed away otherwise.
Cereal bags!!! Who knew?! I tried wax paper, cut up Ziploc bags, stencil plastic, and even regular copy paper... Nothing worked except... Cereal bags!!! Wow! That's great! Thank you!
When you showed the ripples, I thought...oh, I could make something pretty with that! Thank-you...you've just shown a new technique! How to MAKE ripples~~~the easy way!
Wow! I'm so happy to see this! I've been so frustrated with streaks, ripples, and lines! Thank you, Samantha!
This is brilliant advice. I just got an $80 Atlas 150 machine and was devastated to find it doing this to my clay sheets at the thinner settings. Glad to know that it's not just me, and also glad for the tip! Thanks for all of your wonderful content!
Jessama, I'm sitting in front of my computer, taking time to watch video since I have a pinched nerve and can't do anything else, and found your tutorial. Oh my goodness!! They are all fantastic, thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge. I want to go sit in my Play area and make some of your projects. You have inspired me greatly!
Thank you! Great tip. I want to mention my gratitude to you for taking the time to list other tutorials and especially where we can find the specialty tools for the projects you make.
I agree, both the diligence and attention to detail in her videos are amazing!
SO HELPFUL!
Great idea. Thank you!
Great idea as always. Thank you.
Your tutorials are so amazing and detailed. I love watching them. As far as plastic sheets you can purchase quilting template sheeting in most sewing and craft stores that will do the same thing. You just might have to cut them down to fit the pasta machine width but they work like a charm!
As a quilter I love this suggestion. I think I have some of that plastic around. I will look... and give a try.
I was wondering about using quilt template plastic. I have several rather large sheets of it that I know I’ll never use for quilt templates. Thanks for the suggestion!
Love this tip, thanks so much.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you very much. Very helpful.

Thank you for this one. I am new to PC so every little bit helps!
Just got my first pasta machine. So glad I watched this. Very informative for this beginner. Thank you.
Merci pour votre partage
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I just got my pasta machine, and everything was rippled. I thought it was defective, but then I remembered in a previous video of yours that certain types of clay become harder to work with the warmer they become. I can't wait to try to plastic sheets technique, I think that will make everything, as well as cooler clay, much better. Thank you again for sharing your tips! :)
This is fantastic. My sheeter is the bane of my life. lol. Thank youj!
Excellent advice and it works yipee
Thanks for this, very helpful.I was getting clay sticking to the rollers ,this would help with that too.
Fabulous idea! I never use the thinnest setting on my machine. because, not only does it ripple, but it just makes a sticky mess! Thank you so much for sharing this technique.
This has been the most helpful to me of all your videos to me! It has saved me so much frustration! You're my "go to" instructor. Thanks so very much.
Yes helpful 👍🏾
Thank you , thank you, thank you I have had such of a bad experience with my machine. This should help. Even if I clean my machine constantly I have had issues. I am excited to try this!,,,
Thank you for this tip I was wondering if there was a way to prevent the rippling.
Amazingly excellent technique! So simple and I never thought of it😊. I have so many problems with old clay getting on my new clay when I run it through the pasta machine. I have already ordered the Teflon sheets! Thanks for the tip.
Thanks dear
Thanks
Thank you for your video. I'm glad to have found it as I've just received my pasta machine. This is great so I will not have color contamination while using it!
Very useful tip. Thank you. Might also stop the machine from stealing the clay and hiding it inside. Must get a better quality machine!
Lol yes that does happen to me sometimes.
In the past 2 months I've watched a TON of polymer clay videos (yours included), and this is the first mention I've heard of rippling. Do you personally always roll between some protector sheets? I've seen so many demos of Skinner blends simply popped into the machine. Glad to learn something that will prevent frustration as I embark on this new project. Your vids are wonderful btw. Love your creations.
I don't always roll with the sheets. Only if it's a veneer that I need to thin out. I've also found that starting on your thickest setting on your pasta machine and then jumping straight to your thinnest setting helps prevent ripples for some reason. That's what I tend to do now.
@@JessamaTutorials Thank you. As we speak I am rolling my first clays with my new (used) pasta machine! I hope to be able to post a photo.
Thanks for sharing. What are the plastic sheets called and where do you buy them. I like the idea of the clear sheets to see the clay. Wonderful tip.
I bought them from here. www.lucyclaystore.com/lcm-accessories/354-plastic-sheets.html?search_query=sheets&results=25
Great idea, thanks. Which pasta machine do you use? I have a new but cheap one which is causing rippling. Might need to reinvest ...
I use a cheap $20 dollar one from ebay. I replace it every year.
Thank you. I tried using paper with my clay and it stopped the rippling! 😀 Maybe I shouldn't be too quick to judge my cheap pasta machine! 😊
Thank you! I never thought of this as a way to keep white clay clean. Where di you find your plastic sheeting? It did not look familiar to me.
I got it from lucy clay tools.
It looks like regular acetate film. You can buy rolls of it at art stores. It is to use as overlay drawing material for trial lines, or to protect pastels and pencil works.
What was this product called on lucyclaytools.com?
www.lucyclaystore.com/usa/lcm-accessories/355-plastic-sheets.html
Can i sandwhich the clay in parchment paper just to prevent paint from sticking or anything else?
Yes. You can. Just do a test run as some paint brands will stick.
Hello Jessama, when you reach a very thin clay, couldn't you use some water spayed on your clay ? This could perhaps make it easier to remove the clay from the plastic, instead of being obliged to take it off by sawing with your blade ?? Not forgetting to dry the sheet of clay at the end of the process.
I have tried that, but it makes the clay slip from the plastic as it's going through the pasta machine and some brands of clay don't do well when coming into contact with water.
Is there any tricks to get you clay to go through your pasta machine, my doesn’t seem to want to go through. Very frustrating.
Can you give me a little more information? Not really sure why that would be happening.
Thank you, again Jessema! Second try.....would powder work? Just in case...Murphy's law here...Lol
Hi Samantha, I couldn't find this plastic sheet anywhere. What is their main use? Maybe it will help that I can find them.
I sell them on my etsy store, but they are out of stock at the moment. www.etsy.com/au/shop/JessamaDesign?ref=seller-platform-mcnav§ion_id=24448201
I just spray the clay and rollers..works well for me up to # 7...
So I got the Teflon sheets that were recommended but my pasta machine won’t roll on through not even on the tightest I just slip right on by so I must’ve not got the right kind. Is there a type of Teflon on Amazon that has a sticky side and a slick side LOL because my Teflon is definitely not working
Have you tried ot pull the sheet from underneath the pasta machine?
Yes. It is just too slick. The rollers roll right past it. It just does not work and I bought an actual pasta machine after your tutorial a few weeks ago. The Teflon I have looks more like cooking Teflon and is brown. I think there are various types but that is all I saw on amazon.
where do you purchase these papers?
I bought them from here. :D www.lucyclaystore.com/usa/lcm-accessories/355-plastic-sheets.html?search_query=sheets&results=3
I just got a pasta machine and tried it out but my clay just got stuck to the rollers. Any suggestions?
How thin was the setting? Thinner settings will ripple and grab the clay.
@@JessamaTutorials it was only on the second largest setting. I was just really starting to play with it so it wasn't very thin.
Wat is that papers? Baking papers AA?
Grease proof paper, wax paper or baking paper. It's all the same thing. You can also use plain printing paper.
Why do some machines cause this and others don’t? What causes it?
Often times it's because the pasta machines gears are out of alignment. Cheap pasta machine tend to already have this before you receive them while more quality pasta machines tend to get it after being used a little while.
Would baking paper work?
Yes. It will work just fine.
