In 1966 Chevy came out with their signature 427 engine, which became an
American muscle icon.
In this video we will go over some of the history of this car, then take
it for a drive to experience the power of a big block Chevy icon for
ourselves.

One of the most beautiful looking cars ever made.
I have the 454 sitting outside . My heart melts with happiness when I hear her fire
You are of the anointed ones! I cover my eyes from your blessed aura! Lucky dog!
I own a “Triple Black” 66 427 Sting Ray with original side exhausts. 73000 miles on it. Love the car. Used to live in Huntington Beach but now in Colorado. Was able to take it out yesterday with a sunny 60 degree day. Do miss driving down PCH in it.
Kudos to the hostess- nice job on the commentary and presentation. Great to see a down to earth, knowledgeable, and well spoken non-super model. Clearly loves cars.
Thanks!
@@FerrarisOnline I see you deleted your comment about Stingray- one word. ☮️😄
My dream car!! Hopefully one day❤
Nice corvette!! Such a beautiful example of a classic! These old big block DOMINATED the streets back in the day!
One of these passed me on the highway yesterday. It sounded fantastic.
Thank you for talking a bit about American muscle. In 1970 I bought a 1969 Z28 Daytona Yellow with black stripes and black interior. loved that car, wish I still had it. talked father into buying it for me because the article I read about the car said, its the closest thing Chevy will ever make that is almost a Ferrari! what a car. I always said if I live through this, I will get to be an old man. I have now made it to 65. got it when I was 16. Lots of stories.
Wow 69 camaro first owner as a teen that is a story to tell I got a 79 ta when I was 15 about two years back but that’s nothing compared to that car
I’m a hardcore JDM guy, but I dream of owning one of these old legendary Chevy’s one day. 64’ Impala SS, 70’ El Camino SS, C2 or C3. True American Muscle. Keep it up 👍🏽
I don't know what's more beautiful.....the car or this woman
Woman
I have enjoyed my '65 Sting Ray convertible now for 20 years and must say it is just as amazing out on the highway as it is in the twisty stuff. I've upgraded the the factory 4 speed Muncie transmission for a Tremec TKO-600 5 speed, plus updated suspension, brakes and steering. Truly astounding how well this 50+ year old design can keep up with (or excel past) most modern cars.
A TKO 5 speed and 373 gears in the rear. Always a great combination. 1500rpm at speed is always pleasing.
A former Florida friend had a silver one. He sold it through Hemmings Motor News to a collector in PA. The PA collector flew down to FL to check the authenticity of the car. He bought the car and arranged for it being shipped to PA. While waiting for the shipping company, my former friend removed the original 427 engine and re-stamped a 402 engine from a '71 wagon with the 427's numbers. The 402 looked close to being right but of course it wasn't. My former friend moved from FL to NC soon after the Corvette was shipped to PA. Two years later, he was arrested for interstate fraud, convicted, and sent to prison for several years.
I am a year late to comment here but did watch this posting the day it published. I have a C2 corvette and I extremely happy to see Collene present this example. Nice spec and race history. Mid Year Corvettes hold their own against any Ferrari ever! I enjoyed. Please more of these.
Gorgeous ride..
Amazing car and such a smoke show
Gorgeous car and that engine is a beast
I'm with you.That car has a personality.
I still remember getting dropped off at kindergarten in my dad's 66 coupe. That was the last time it was on the road (1988). My dad gave me the car in 2017 and I had the body off within a few months. Hopefully I'll have it back on the road in a few years. Even as a kid I thought that car was so cool!
A true american icon with a unmistakable sound for sure!
Can I have an update on the car how far is it through restoration
@@HighSockDavid I wrote 2017 but it was 2015 when I got the car. I just completed the chassis and might get the body back on this year-time will tell. I post videos on my channel and have a playlist of all of them if you're interested.
Hard not to love one of these!
One of these 435hp engines finely tuned is by far the greatest sounding engine of all time. This is the real deal. well done.
D Wnright - By far better than a Ferrari Colombo V12. Sure
@@cirenosnor5768 And quicker as well
69,000 miles WOW a true gem !!
My favorite generation of Corvette. Awesome video
Greetings. You just made up my night watching this video of this gorgeous ‘66 Corvette. My favorite car. Thanks
Aesome, glad you liked it.
Never owned one, but I have ridin in one, and they are a very bad ass machine.. No hemi or ford can mess with it
Wow, beautiful!
You guys have the coolest cars....
Awesomeness. I ache for one!
I enjoy your videos and the cars collection are amazing and they way you represent ❤👍
Thanks! glad you enjoy it!
The 60 lemans performer and 65 and 66 are my faves..!! this one black on black woah woah woah:::::
I have the 2013 427 Collector's Edition she referenced that was a tribute to the 1960s big blocks. Unfortunately, my idle doesn't sound like that. Like her, I love the cold start where the engine rolls the body at ignition. It's like a muscle twitch.
I used to own and run a Corvette and classic car restoration shop back in early 2000s. Strangest story I tell people is that I used to have a customer who would come in almost daily to check out the cars being worked on. So one day a customer brought in a super rare 1969 Corvette L88 (427 engine). It was to go under a full restoration (down to the red line tires) So way later in the day the guy that came around checking out the cars came in and I told him about the 1969 that I had parked. I stayed in the office and a few minutes later he came back in ad said he was going home and would be back. He looked upset. He came back about 30 minutes later with a title in his hand and wanted me to go with him and check out the VIN. Well, the numbers matched on the title. I called the customer that left the car and I called the police as well. Luckily the police and customer came in about the same time. I asked the customer to bring all paper work he have had on the car and would explain what was going on when he got there. So, everyone got together I thought I would do the explaining on what was going on because the one guy was obviously upset. I asked the customer where he got his car and explained to both the guy and police that it was possibly a stolen car. The customer brought his paper work and the police officer looked it over then called headquaters............. turned out the car was reported stolen by the original guy who was upset BUT...... it was found but overlooked at the police impound AND sold at police auction. The end result? The police officer asked if an insurance settlement was made and the answer was Yes. The officer said that this guy is the new legal owner then........... I felt bad for him
That is strange. Doesn't the insurance company have a claim against the car though?
@@DSC800 - From what I understood was that apparently the original owner got a insurance settlement. What I am not sure of is how long it had been missing before it showed up at my shop. I assume the car sat at the police imound for quite some time before it got auctioned off. I do not remember what happened afterwards but I think the guy sued the police dept. over that whole ordeal. Talk about anoher strange story, I had a guy drop off a 1957 Corvette for a complete off the frame restoration and he gave me $10,000 down to start the job. I had the car for quite a while but never heard back from the guy. I called the number he left on the invoice and the phone was no longer in service. My shop was in Texas, I tried searching for the guy and all I found out was that he lived or moved to Florida ( He may have had 2 homes, one in each State) Could never locate him or family. I had the State of Texas search for him and it was believed he had died. I waited a year and nothing, so the State let me have the car as a mechanic lien and I sold the car. Never ever heard anything about him or family...........
I had the same car in White. What caught my attention was the pumping of the gas. In order for that car to run on todays lower octane unleaded fuel, major engine modifications are needed.
Great video nice Corvette
Thanks. It's a blast to drive.
The car is nice but can we also take a moment to appreciate the beauty presenting the car?!
Bent over the car, then maybe. Women trying to be like men doesn't really turn me on at all. What a machine though. I love the look of the C5 too.
2:26 You have absolutely right! The old (muscle) cars are all the money 💰
So what's the rear end? I had a 3:70 rear end in my '64 327ci with 365hp and the tach ran about about 1/2 the speed, meaning at 70 mph it was running 3500 rpm. Loved that car. I remember speed shifting into 4th at 90 mph and "barking" the tires. That's a speed shift, NOT a power shift. The owner before had put a stinger hood on it and it was a convertible with both tops. God, how I loved that car.
In the late 1970s I bought a former '66 Corvette 427-425 (ermine white exterior, saddle tan interior) 4-spd with 3:70 rear. The previous owner had blown up the engine and dropped in a 327-365, along with the small block radiator and overflow tank. I eventually spun #5 rod bearing hot rodding it. I decided not to take down the engine, hot tank it, etc., and sold the short block, keeping the heads, aluminum intake, distributor, carb, chrome dipstick, etc., and bought a 350 short block and put the 327-365 heads, manifold, carb, distributor on it. But instead of going with another solid lifter cam I elected to go with an after market hydraulic cam slightly hotter than Chevy's 350 HP cam. I also elected not to install the ram head exhaust manifold, and installed a set of Black Jack headers on it. For my money, the small block Chevy is the best engine ever made.
My 65- 327-350 at 70mph is 1700 rpms 3:08 gears. 850 Holley double pump.
Drivetrain was M21 close ratio and axle ratio 3.55 standard, optional ratios 3.36, 3.70 or 4.11. But after all these years they could have anything in them by now.
Of course it starts right up....Its a Chevy
Killin’ it girl!!
Great car. Flat out Awesome. Only thing I noticed, it's missing the wiper knob.
I want to see more of the car!!
Nice racing history. You usually need to do major fiberglass work on these old Vettes. Looks and sounds great.
This car was really solid forcwhat it was, obviosly not a show car bug for being an old race car and driver, it is a great car.
Awesome car
This piece fits you so good. American muscle sports cars in the 60's and 70's beat everything in the world. Then 80's it went down hill.
Yeah, the 80s cars had that perfect combination of awful reliability and ugly design.
Actually 450 hp and road tested back in the day turned a high 12sec. 1/4 mile time on gold line tires.
The vett fits her really good !!
Neat video, black looks so great, but you have to get that 63-64 horn cap off there.
okay, now we're talkin.
Does clutch need replacing often?
I had my heart set on a certain red 66 442. One evening my Dad said "let's go" . We got in the family car and he took me to a car lot in Tulsa, on 15th street. He said " wouldn't you rather have that one?". There, sitting menacingly was a 67 427 Corvette, yellow with black on the hood . Side pipes. It's amazing how stupid a kid can be. The 442 was a great 4speed car. The sight of that Corvette still haunts me. I'm not positive about it being a 67.
There is nothing that compares to the sound of a 427 BBC. Pair it with a C2 - and it's all over.
You ever hear a 429 Boss idle? Mean🤬 as hell👹
Nice presentation. Can i go for a ride next time i am in California? Pleeeeeeease? 🇭🇲☺️🇭🇲
Her voice and the 427 exhaust notes are perfect, by the way.. is the exhaust stock? Or Chambered?
You own this car? I need career advice how do you do it
When a car like that sits for a few weeks it would be good to spin the motor awhile first and get the oil around before you actually start it.
How do you do that? I have a classic that sits all winter, and I always just put a little fresh gas in and start it right up in the spring.
@Bastian I have a c6 corvette and if you put the gas pedal to the floor and press the start button the motor spins but doesn't start. Depending on your ignition you could pull the coil wire and spin the motor and build oil pressure and circulate the oil in the motor for awhile. But it's something you should look into.
@@bobadams3661 Thanks, I will look into that!
@@LastBastian Just thought I'd add that engineers @ GM knew Corvettes are mostly part time and sit for periods of time. So they put that feature into the car to spin motor and build oil pressure & circulate oil throughout motor without the load of a running motor. Love those Stingrays!!
Great video...Still love the Dino videos better :). Great job!
My god.... I'm in love....😍😎
CORVETTE a big part of real ROCK N ROLL !!
I would have that over the Ferrari any day. The Ferrari might be more refined & quicker but there's nothing like a muscle car.
Vette is quicker Ferrari might be faster
that is one good girl she understand what cars is ALL about 👍
By the sound of your rpm in first to second its probay has a 3.70 or 4.11 rear
355
As a teen in the age of everyone my age wanting a lime green dodge hellcat or a 2021 corvette or a Jeep some other expensive or pretentious car, I wonder what on earth posesses them that makes them feel that this is somehow inferior. That’s my dream car right there. Some day. Some day.......
1967. 427 / 435. Hp was my favorite 😂😂😂❤😂❤❤
I wonder if the previous owner swapped out the trans or rear end gearing to shorter gearing? You figure a 427 should have long legs.
The sight sound power?...not to mention what takes place in my mind...
First gear is to get you across the street. Fun begins at 80 miles an hour. That big block lunge, especially at night when you hear it come on.
This lady needed a vintage 60 year old man to make her happy,
Clutch? I thought the badge next to 427 said Turbo Jet. Isn’t that an automatic.
Nice vette😉
I have a question. What is your favourite classic car?
67 Pontiac G T O
That's a car that begs to be bang shifted. No clutch, no rev drop, just bang, bang, bang!
Gasoline just smells good I’m addicted to the scent
I believe the term is first gear is too tall and requires you to rev the engine a little much
Love the perfect narrator!
Tell me you’re Italian without telling me. :::waves arms for 5 minutes while driving a stick::::
I had a friend who had a1969 l88 427 it was bad to the bone it was a former road race car when it was new
427 425hp black on black 2 tops 4spd super shifter
Tell the model to move OUT of the picture. I want to see 👀 CORVETTE.
where was the model?
Nelly Farnsworth - The model? Her father owns the dealership and she works there. Probably knows more about the cars than most
@@cirenosnor5768 Doubtful... talks mostly in generalities, however with just a little more effort with those hands and arms she can simultaneously "sign" for the hearing impaired.
@@mikethompson2007 i didn't know this was one of those roasting videos XD
Do you feel anything from your Tesla? How could one?
You feel a smile as you overtake Corvettes...
A new model S will run 10 second quarter miles, you obviously don't understand.....
@@heavenstomurgatroyd7033 so? I can watch a video of a tesla doing a 10 second quarter mile and I get almost the same experience. Not so with this corvette
My favorite model.beinga big block you wouldn't need to use first gear with all that torque
That's what I want...a 60 yo car that's been raced.
Floor It !
I know every car guy/gal feels the need to flail around with their spaghetti arms like one of those inflatable wacky wavy tube shaped guys, but this one here makes Scotty Kilmer look like a double stroke victim.
Yes that is one of the greatest cars...but to hve one back in the 1960s is much better
Did I miss the part where you mentioned the knockoff/spinner wheels - I believe they were an optional add-on. You probably don't even read the comments.
I do read the comments. Thanks.
@@FerrarisOnline - my apologies - I like the Sting Ray and the Knockoff wheels -
My dad had a 68 big block 4 speed. Nice car. He sold it during the gas crunch for next to nothing.
Beautiful Girl 😍 Amazing Car 😍 What You want more Man!? 😎💪❤
That thing doesn’t need a gearbox! Just weld a prop shaft to the end of the crank and be done with it! 😂
Nice vette but you should keep your hand off the inside gasket of that " smelly" gas cap!🤣🤣🤣
"Sting Ray" was two words in 1966...
and in 63...
63-67- Sting Ray
C2 Hardtops are the Greatest Corvettes.
Please.
Heck with the vet she’s a knockout
:( that was it ? :/
Show the road and the hood of the car while in motion!!@!!!!!
couldn't say a word with her hands tied behind her back...
OK, it's a big block 427. What flavor? 390 hp? 400 hp? 425 hp? 435 hp? Has someone stuffed a big mutha thumper cam in it? As for the transmission gears, maybe a wide ratio unit would be a better choice. Not being a transmission expert, I think the Muncie M-21 may have been available in close ratio gear sets as well as wide ratio gear sets. Ooops...there's that 425 hp sticker on the air cleaner. I like that green top....but you could loosen it up a bit without violating YT standards.
The presentatrice is definitely cute
The tires are older than the girl. Someone that can give us abit more info would have been nicer.
Very nice. But it is not a muscle car - it is a sports car! Yeah, I'm nit-picking.
Could someone easily p/u girls with this car?
