In the first of two exclusive Masterclasses, Ryan Giggs talks about his role within Sir Alex Ferguson's first Premier League title-winning team, and in their historic treble-winning side.
During his 24 years as a Manchester United player, Ryan Giggs won the Premier League 13 times - a record for an outfield player.
His first league title came in the 1992/93 season, as Manchester United beat nearest rivals Aston Villa by 10 points. Giggs talks about his combination play with Denis Irwin down the left side, and linking up with Mark Hughes and Erik Cantona in the middle of the pitch.
Six years later, the Red Devils won the league again, and added the FA Cup and Champions League in an unprecedented treble. The Welshman reflects on a period where he started to switch up his game, explaining how he developed as a player to become less reliant on his pace.
Giggs also reveals the toughest full-backs he faced in his long career, and what made them so effective.

It’s called spatial IQ, being able to visualize where you are on the pitch in relation to your team, the ball, the opposition team, the space you can exploit etc. Certain forwards have made careers out of always being in the right place at the right time.

      @omalone1169@omalone11694 жыл бұрын
    • @@omalone1169 I know this is 2 years old, but I'll answer you. Highbury's stands were tightly packed as they were built in the 1800's when distance to the pitch was too much of an issue. Naturally, this made the pitch itself smaller and difficult to get space and time on the ball, much like Goodison Park before any new renovation. The Emirates had stands that were a long way from the grass, thus, the pitch was expanded to larger international standards. So, it's pitch is almost as big as Old Trafford's

And as a got older at 23 the same age has ryan, a thinck am a year older but any way i thought 1 day watching why isnt he even trying to practice kicking with his weaker foot and making it as strong as his left? Becouse he would get into positions where he could score from easy and just couldnt hit the ball with his right foot. He didnt even try to be two footed. But he scored some great free kicks!!!!!

  • So much nonsense about how "modern football" has changed. Really that 4-4-2 is in essence a 4-2-3-1 as Cantona was more of a number 10 dropping between the lines to score and create in the same way a Griezman or Dybala would today. Sure the kits were a little baggier back then,🤣 but football hasn't changed much we just over-complicate simple ideas that have been a part of the game for years. Another example of this is the high pressing game which people seem to think was invented by Klopp/Pep when in fact a lot of English teams played this way in the pre-Premier League era

    @ny-ashmanyumwa4238@ny-ashmanyumwa42384 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you for saying this! People are constantly overhyping "modern football" when its really been the same. The only thing that's been developed is the broadcasting technology and social media to overhype today's current players. Maybe only Guardiola's tiki-taka style was recently introduced when he was at Barca but that's about it. The "modern football" term was just invented as an excuse for the current crop of players which aren't as good as the players of the 90's and early 2000's.
