How To Change a Tire Pressure Sensor (TPMS ) Yourself !
In this video i show how the average person can change a tire pressure sensor themselves using the Beadbuster. In this video i show how to break a tire bead on a car tire but i can also be done on an atv or small tire. I also show how to replace a tpms and a valve stem on a tire. How to use the slime tool 20088 as well. Also how to reseal a bead on a tire.

Thanks! I already had the same head breaker as you used. I had nothing to buy other than new sensors and a $14 training tool from Amazon. This video gave me instruction I needed to do the job myself! Success! Done in one hour taking it slow and easy complete with sensor training! Saved myself a ton of money! These sensors are real money makers for dealers and tire shops. Not me, not this time!
That wood technique at 3:50 was excellent!

bead buster was cool--put "perpendicular to wheel" would be more accurate usage description. Video said "perpendicular to tire" which I thought meant the tire surface until you went way beyond that. Thx. Great video. Very helpful, clear, good audio, etc. Excellent.

@@klowny1969 I also almost dropped my car on myself but I lucked out and 0 damage to anything including myself. Subbed
I’m working on the rear tires of my 07 is250 this weekend. For the front tires, even though I broke the bead all the way around, it was difficult to move the tire out if the way to access the sensor. I ended up using a scissors jack on one side of the sensor and the bead buster on the other side to hold the gap open wide enough. I hope the back tires will be easier.
Great instructional video. Succinct and entertaining. Well done. Thank you.

Great, I have 2 questions. Does the bead breaker scratch the wheel and can this be done without taking the tire off the car, just jack it up.
Thank you!
I have that very bead breaker. It works just like shown. Easy-peasy. The problem I ran into is my portable air compressor, a Viair 400 P, couldn't reseat the bead. It has plenty of pressure, but not enough volume, I could see it leaking around the rim. I think if I had a ratchet strap around the perimeter of the tire it would have worked. But I had to go to a tire store anyway.
Looks like I'm sticking with electric tape over my warning light.

Hello I bought tire sensors from walmart online however they have no back cover, there is just silicon on the back side. Do you think silicon is strong enough to keep the mechanism and the battery inside in place, are they safe enough to use like that without the back cover? Thx
Good job all round. Lots of good info.

Up until now, I didn't really understood how the tires worked to keep the air inside. And also learned how to install a TPMS at the same time.

Easy way to break tire bead. Lay deflated tire on ground. Ramp 2x6 board up to edge of bead. Drive car up 2x6. Bead breaks easily. Done this lots of times. No prying, no cussing, no smashed fingers, no special tools required.
I could easily see someone damaging there tire doing this.
Never had it damage the tire. Works very well. I uses to do this all the time.
How do you drive up the board on 3 wheels? LOL
I tried something like this on a F-350 tire. Used the truck frame jacked up and a short 4x4. Put the 4x4 on the edge of the tire bead/rim and lower the truck. It did not work and there was much cussing.
Now after seeing how useful that bead buster is I have to buy my own! Great video as always!
Thanks man..yes this thing is awesome..and it's small too, can easily fit in a tool box!
and don't forget to stop at HD to pick up some Great Stuff big gap sealer to seal that tire before adding air to it. That should really help you out too!
Over $100....I'll use wood
Thanks for the video and my only recommendation is to put something soft under the red tool because it has some sharp edges and it might damage the tire thank you again

@6:45 When you install TPMS sensor w/rubber stem, you need to apply some mounting lubricant pasta, how it is shown (I used Bead Don on rubber stems), like for usual stems w/no TPMS. But do you need to apply a bit of that paste on metal stem? Or something else should be applied, or just nothing? But the metal stem also has on the bottom the Rubber gasket as well, so should be lubricated I think. Thank you for the informative film.
You got it, nothing is necessary on the valve stem..you can put bead sealer if you want for added measure..don't forget to subscribe

Did you HAVE to replace the valve stem or could you have just installed the different sensor onto the valve stem which was already there?
They only sold the sensors with the valve stem..its a good idea to change both if you are doing this job

U have to recalibrate
Great video. But In my particular case, I'd have to pay someone big bucks to reconnect new sensors to the car display so I just leave the TPMS light on. I'd sure like to know how to disconnect that light.
You can buy four new sensors that screw onto your valve stems and a solar reader that goes into your car for less than $75.00 from Amazon. Then put some black electricians tape over the damn light.

To all the uneducated saying car makers put these on cars today as a scam or to screw the public out of money, RESEARCH......The reason we have TPMS is because the good old American government passed the TREAD Act which required all vehicle makers to equip their cars with this useless feature. So thank your congressman or senator, not the car makers, not the dealers, and not firestone. I hate dealers as much as anyone, but you cant blame them for this one.
the same way the GOOD OLD USELESS GOV'T stuck their useless stupid busybody noses in the plastic gas can business...........now we have unusable dangerous and hard to control gas cans that SPILL MORE GAS WHERE YOU DON'T WANT IT instead of the old ones that were easy to use and WORKED THE RIGHT WAY.............GOOD OLD GOV'T............
If the dumb ass public would check their tire pressure at least once a month TPMS sensors would not be needed.
Good comment, but the reason may be that since it may trigger the ABS, this integral in preventing "spinouts" - yes, a big can of worms.
@@yardlimit8695 Yes, the EPA had too much time on their hands that day (gas can vapor seal).
Hardly a "useless feature". People who complain about additional safety features that our government requires should see the death traps that fly around in other countries. I have, and I hardly consider things like anti-lock brakes, airbags, collision avoidance, backup cameras, TPMS sensors, etc. as useless. Get a clue, dude. I suppose you're one of those people that still complain about them removing lead from gasoline, huh? Checking your tire pressure before every drive isn't exactly practical and not everyone is comfortable with it, or has a clear understanding of what pressure is safe for their given vehicle. There's old people that drive, there's young people who drive, there's uneducated people who don't get it. Just because you think it's infringing on your rights to... I don't even know what your argument is, lol... doesn't mean features shouldn't be developed & implemented to help make it safer for everyone, including yourself - don't forget you and your loved ones are on the road with these people, too.... Not to mention, things can and do happen in between checking your tire pressure. I do all my own auto repair and I'm very diligent about maintaining my vehicles. IMHO, TPMS saved one of tires and possibly my family while we were on a road trip to Yellowstone. We picked up something sharp in a tire while at a roadside stop and a few minutes after getting back on the road, the warning went off while we going 75mph down the freeway. I was able to slowly slow down & pull over - watched the tire go completely flat only seconds after getting out to check it. Put the spare on, drove to nearest town where they plugged the puncture and 2 hours later we were back on the road. Who knows what would happened if I hadn't had 10-15 seconds of lead time - maybe nothing, maybe catastrophe. This was a fully loaded Suburban with camping gear, roof top box, kayak and 7 people inside. I didn't even wreck the tire, drove on it for years afterwards. If it wasn't so expensive to replace, you wouldn't be complaining so the real issue is overinflated prices. Car makers make billions in profit every year and perhaps THEY should be required to service safety features like these AT COST instead of charging the RIDICULOUS prices I see dealers asking for - $800 to replace 4 sensors? $250 at Discount tire and they only last 2 years (my experience)? C'mon man! If you can order 4 of these for $40 off of Amazon and takes Wal-Mart a few minutes to replace, it shouldn't be so expensive to maintain by the dealer.... Profits on the vehicles we buy are through the roof and I shouldn't have to pay bloated prices to keep my vehicle safe just so some jerk at GM can fuel up his jet every week.
What if the old sensor is totally gone . How do you program the new one? Thanks
Same way as if you replace it..don't forget to subscribe
Please Help. DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THIS? WILL ANYTHING BAD HAPPEN TO MY TIRE IF I DONT CHANGE IT? They are charging me $80 dollars To fix this issue. Any advice will be greatly appreciated sir

Rev up your engine!
Tip! Heat the valve stem with a propane torch... just the metal... won’t take but 30 sec and the metal stem will slide right out!!
Can it be done with a heat gun or blow dryer?
what name the liquid?
Very cool. Instead of cutting the valve stem, can't you just tap it with a mallet and pop it through the hole? Also, once you get the bead broken loose in one place, I think you can just take a hammer to the tire and go around hammering until the bead comes completely loose. I think that should work quickly.
Sure you can try that..Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe and hit that bell
How many others have expensive painted wheels that they keep in pristine condition, cringed when they saw this beadbuster and pry bar utilized 😬
This wheel was from a 07 impala and it didn't suffer any damage lol don't forget to subscribe
I assume your going to balance these tires before you put them back on the car? The bead buster can eventually get the tire apart but you still need mounting and BALANCING equipment to do the job right
No you dont..I explained why in the video.
Wrong. Use a replacement sensor that is very close to the same weight as the original, and be sure not to shift the position of the tire on the wheel, and you should be good to go.
Technology that's nothing but a pain in the rear and something else to fail... makes we want to keep my 2003 vehicle forever...

FYI People, most cars require a TPMS scan tool to register the NEW TPMS ID with your computer. Or else your computer will not detect the new sensor. Additionally, some TPMS sensors require programming as well, so it's just not a pop in and let's go. Make sure you purchase a pre-programmed sensor and hope you don't have to upload TPMS ID's to the computer. Good luck. I love videos like these, they are my best friends. I have a shop and half the repairs are from people who watch these types of videos.
And that was the real reason I watched the video I wanted to know if the sensors needed to be programed to the computer

With that tire sensor flashing, you don't know which of the 4 tire is involved. That means that you have to do this on all of the 4 tire or perhaps it might be a defect not on the tire senor but on the display.
On this car it tells you what tire has no input from the sensor
@@klowny1969 Thanks for the reply. In my car, a 2014 Prius V the tire sensor display is lighted up. I know that tire pressure on all of the 4 tire are OK at 35 PSI so it's a false alarm.
@@manuelmoraleda9285 It also reads the spare so check that.
Good vid, but I wish you would have shown how to get the vehicle to recognize the new sensor.
Take it to your nearby discount tire and they will do it for you free of charge. They have the computer device that will sync your new sensors to your computer.
@@mattp533 They said they can read & reset the sensors, but it would cost 64$ to replace one. Fortunately, I discovered the vehicle has a reset button & that worked to clear the sensor light. Apparently, a reset needs to be done from time to time as tire load & pressure changes. Amazing what you can learn when you download the user's manual. Thanks you.
@@ab_ab_c No problem. How did you reset the tpms system? Was it the tpms button by the steering wheel column? I recently put on new tires on my 2006 Lexus GS and my tpms light came on after 50 miles of driving. It flashes and check system light is on. Tire Pressure is fine. ☹
@@mattp533 Not sure how it would work exactly for a Lesus. The YT vid that I watched showed how to set the TPMS for another model Toyota vehicle (which I tried & discovered it did not work on my model, so I downloaded the user's manual & followed it's instructions & it worked). The procedure for my vehicle (Toyota Sienna) is as follows: Switch off the engine, turn the ignition to the on position (i.e. the position just before the starter engages), press & hold the TPMS button until the dash indicator light flashes 3 times. Turn off the ignition. Start the car & take it for a drive--the TPMS dash indicator should remain off (if it doesn't, then the book recommends you take your vehicle to an authorized stealership--but, I suggest you take it to Discount tire to identify the bad sensor). By the way, you can change out the sensor yourself, if you're handy--there are YT vids that show you how to do it. Good luck!
As he said in the video, it all depends on the car’s maker. They all have different ways to reset and reactivate/relearn the tpms. That’s a 2 steps process: 1) reset 2) relearn. For the relearn process, you can also buy a universal tool (just check on amazon for “tpms relearn reset activation tool”) for about 12-15$, then youtube it to see how to use it (pretty easy, just put the tool next to the tire, click on the button on the tool, wait until it turns green then do the same for all tires).
As a tire tech he made this way harder then it needed to be
