Sea lions are becoming regulars at the fish markets on the beaches of Chile. But for the stray dogs who were there first, a turf war is necessary to keep their territory.

Stray dogs with collars and coats? What do their owners think what they are doing?
In the philippines we own dogs as well but we just let them roam the streets. They come back to the house usually when its time to eat xD
@@harrellt1405 It's a nightmare when dog owners do not think about anyone else at all. Your kid wants to ride their bike down the street? Well there's packs of people's pets roaming around that ruin that. They dig up and shit in everyone else's yard, scratch through screen doors. 2 of the 3 times I've been seriously bitten by dogs (requiring visit to ER, lost a finger) allowed to roam free was as their owner was saying "Don't worry about them, they're friendly" If an owner says, "oh they come back to get food" they are saying I'm selfish and don't care about anyone else in the area or their small children, and it's way easier and less work for me to just let them run around.
In going through this problem right now. Renting a house and can't walk my dog down the street because this 100lb monster comes out aggressively barking at me and following me. Just yesterday he was in our yard and we live a few hundred feet away from where the dog lives. Had to scare it all the way back home and he was very aggressive and hesitant to leave.... barked at me the entire time he was retreateing. Dogs are not cats. They cannot be left alone to roam the streets and possibly kill somebody or their pets.

I feel like the sea lions left the beach out of annoyance. It didn't look like the dog's teeth could puncture the blubber. Also, look at all those pelicans on the pier at the end, lol
they are chickens. look at all those chickens
The layers of skin/fat/blubber are strong but that dog wasn’t giving it a proper hard bite. They were chasing them off as packs do, not trying to kill and/or eat them. With full force any large dog could puncher the skin 100%. I have seen the numbers before comparing jaw/bite strengths in pounds per square inch I believe and was surprised how powerful dogs were on the list.
Even if the dogs were doing anything the sea lion can rip it apart
You would be surprised how canines can be a threat for pinnipeds on land. Seals and sea lions, though powerful, lacks mobility on land and really cannot defend themselves very well. There are cases of coyotes mauling weaned elephant seal pups in California, where seals and sea lions account for more than 20% of coyote's diet.
While it wasn’t doing that much damage, the dogs were still doing damage to the sea lions, the sea lions were also too slow to defend themselves from the dogs so they retreated, I doubt these dogs would’ve killed one of these sea lions even if they were there all day but it was still bad enough for the sea lions to react and retreat, coastal coyotes and wolves actively make a living out of breaking into pinniped carcasses so I doubt that those bites did not hurt at all
2 million stray dogs. But half of these dogs have collars
You're confusing feral dogs with strays. Strays are oftentimes abandoned pets, hence why some have collars. My city hasplenty of strays like that. They're familiar with people, but don't trust them like they used to.

It's wonderful when humans coexist peacefully with wild animals.
The owners of the dogs should keep them on leads
Yeah amazing how peaceful those dogs were to the Sea Lions. Feeding animals is never an acceptable idea. The animals get aggressive when not fed then end up being shot. Just look at the Dingoes in Queensland, they lose their fear of humans and bite people which means they’re shot soon after by the rangers. There are signs saying “a fed dingo is a dead dingo.”
Are you being sarcastic? Unwanted pets (some with collars and coats still attached) harassing wildlife, humans creating unnatural feeding dependency - that's not peaceful coexistance.

For those asking about the collars, yes, they are stray dogs (I'm from Chile).
