  • Keep the two doors, ditch the hallway door. The bathroom is more private to the master bedroom suite if it is accessible through the bedroom and not the hall.

  • Whichever plan you choose with the doors to the bathroom, make sure to keep the independent access to the dressing room from the hallway. You need to be able to access it when someone else is using the bathroom.

However I do agree with you that the toilet door will alleviate the need for locking the entire bathroom for most uses. It depends on the use of that suite, guests, or homeowners I think.

  • love the toilet room inside the bathroom, not a fan of ultra modern vanities, I would want something that will grow old well with the chateau not look outdated like so many modern design end up looking. I also love the idea of keeping the two doors, it gives it a more ensuite feel and brings in more natural light which this chateau is all about. When the door to the corridor are closed you are in your own space, separate from the rest of the house.

    @lilyflower85@lilyflower858 ай бұрын

    • Totally agree about the vanity in the bathroom; a chateau needs a French vanity, not the ultra-modern looking things that are popular now! I have a French vanity in my guest bathroom, and if the previous owners of my house had not already redesigned the master bath with more modern fixtures, I'd likely have put one in there, as well. And I just have a normal house, not a chateau!

    • Remove the hall way door and keep the two doors. I have to agree not liking the ultra modern. The ultra modern bathroom is not as aesthetically pleasing as something reflecting a more classical feel but with modern touches. Something very elegant yet simple. Your chateaux is stunning. Make the master suite equally as stunning.

  • Keep the two doors. You might remove the actual door to the bedroom so it stays open but keep the actual door to the closet. My house has the closet off the bathroom and steam from the shower can cause mildew to form on the clothing. If you can close the door to the closet then you can reduce the moisture in there which will reduce the chance of mildew on your clothing.

  • I wish you could add a washer/dryer (stackable maybe to conserve space?) in the wardrobe area. A lot of new home builds are doing this here in America and you simply take the clothes out and hang them in the wardrobe area and/or simply walk down to the kids rooms. It's all on one floor. The Chateau is so big you can also have a laundry room for the guests, but this would only be for your personal use. I'm surprised that no one else mentioned this?

  • Last plan with mods: 1. As everyone indicates reduce the shower to provide space for the toilet. (less wall construction and does not interfere with the dressing room area doors from bedroom to bath & bath to dressing room.) 2. Keep an access door from the hall to the dressing room. (Gives access and the option to convert this room to a bedroom with a “Jack & Jill” shared bath.)

  • What would be really awesome is if you could do a 3d Matterport tour of the chateau completed rooms and rooms left to be done yet, basement and attic spaces like they sometimes do on Zillow or Redfin for selling homes and post it on you web page. Then people could really get an idea of what the chateau looks like and what you've done and what's left to be done.

  • Getting the door to the hall out is the best way to solve this. I really like the video-animated concept and think that moving the wall into the dressing room is a quite good way to get a double shower and the toilet into the bathroom, even if it's at the cost of a bit of space and the fireplace in the dressing room (but why have a fireplace in a dressing room!?)

    @alejam1603@alejam16038 ай бұрын
  • Keep the two doors. Your chateau was built with the idea of symetry in mind as it was fashionable at the time. These two doors would be congruent with that idea as they help the flow of the suite. You have many other bedrooms with their enduite bathroom in the chateau but this one is meant to be a suite unit so the flow helps with that. You can change other things around to suit your needs, such as reducing the size of that double shower, but the 2 doors are a must.

  • In the after shot the creation of molding to look like French painted boiserie is perfect, and the incorporation of a mirror fitted into the paneled reserve above the bathtub is brilliant. Its like adding another window, reflecting the light and view. I also like how the roman shades match the wallpaper -very old school design and effective. I also like the contemporary lighting -its the 21st century after all, and by creating historic references with the paneling, its fresh and now with contemporary elements.

A HUGE Shower, which can be enclosed to accommodate a shower/steam room. Plus a private toilet area. And the bonus for me is... Opening Up & Combining all 3 spaces... Gives you options for the future. As in... The dressing room could easily be converted to a nursery or sitting room. Or the combined space could be a converted into a separate living space, Studio Apartment/ Granny Flat.

  • You guys are really lucky. You received a bunch of really nice design proposals and all for free! I wrote a note last week with a few general design thoughts but not much specific with the exception of keeping the two doors opposite each other. There is a very good reason you feel comfortable with that concept, Anna. It has a very natural flow and in a house of your genre, it was very common and called the "enfilade" style where a suite of rooms would all be joined by doors in a straight line. Much like formal french gardens which would often have those same long sightlines. (Not the other meaning of enfilade which is a series of cannons all firing at once.) You would also be giving a small but very polite nod to the origins of the house. Next, Philipp, we know you are having trouble with the wall thing, but get over it. It's not that big a deal. Just get one or two guys to come in to do the drywall work for you. They can put up the drywall, patch and mud whatever is necessary and be out the door while you are still trying to figure out how many sheets of drywall you need. None of us mere mortals are good at drywall unless we did it for a living. Don't try to help them, you will slow them down. If you are keeping the floor the same (and I would) like the dining room, for instance, which turned out beautifully, have Benoit do patches where the holes are. You can't hide them but he can make them look good. Typically, they will look sort of like little "x's" but it is done all the time. Then do all the primary floor sanding for all three rooms. If there is no crown mould, put it in now and make it as close to the same as any other in the house. Keep all door and baseboard mouldings the same as the existing. If you install mouldings up to wainscot height like were wisely shown in one of your patron's renderings, keep them the same shape as any others in the house. Even if you don't especially like the shape, so sad. Be consistent, be consistent, be consistent. Again, as in the bootroom color choice, it all helps with the flow of the house, one room to another. Lastly, Anna, if you are going to do paper, that is done after woodwork, paint, caulk, after everything else. You can leave it till later even if you just paint walls for now, get the papers done at a leisurely pace in your atelier, then install them in a month or two or three over a not busy two or three day period, like when you are between guests and Philipp is busy fighting bees or planting trees. You know what i mean. Get Philipp back on the drawing board and walls be damned, full speed ahead!

The pocket doors could have period frosted or patterned glass to allow for both light and privacy. 2 . In the dressing room, keep both the fireplace and the door to the exterior hallway. This allows for future flexibility with the space and does not remove historical features of the chateau. Love your humor and design aesthetics and thanks for sharing your life with us.

Imagining entering the Suite it could feel a bit overwhelming, facing three doors. Also as a potential user of the bathroom I would ask myself what features I would love but also what could distract me while spending time there. I personally would not like to sit in a bathtub right next to a toilett while admiring a beautiful sunset, so I would consider the extra toilet room :)

  • The two doors are beautiful. I would keep the ‘flow’. It’s also hard to tell from the video since I don’t have the exact measurements but the double shower seemed gigantic. I would look into exact measurements and then go for a wider shower of approximately 1,2-1,5m with two shower heads. If that doesn’t work I would go for a smaller shower. Moving of the walls seems too much and the space is already quite large.

  • I agree with you Anna, keep the two doors and have that open feeling with the light and view from both rooms. Excellent ideas from viewers.

  • Close the door from bathroom to the hallway and have one door to the bedroom and one door to the dressing room. Keep an outside access door to the dressing room. I have never seen such clever presentations of the designs. That is a skill I am now going to explore.

  • I’d definitely go for the two doors. Would not like to have to come out only to go back into the rooms via the corridor 🥹 the different plans all look nice, hard to choose. 😊

  • Love how the layout flowed of the last design. Perfect Finch Way design. Yes keep the two doors and I think you’re absolutely right about Light coming into the rooms from one room to another because of the south facing windows. It is so easy to get from one room to another that’s the point of a master suite. The paneling is a great idea. Also seeing one room from another adds luxury to the suite.

  • Thats a really smart idea getting rid of the door to the hallway, the last plan looked great ... just do you have to have a double shower, then you don't need to remove the wall to get the loo in .... the transomes above the connecting doors are great for bringing more light through. Personally I dont think its necessary to see through from bedroom to bathroom etc, its good to have a door to shut the bathroom area away apart from looking lovely when it's open. Amazing how many pipes there were to take out ! Great job.

  • The last rendering is exactly what I had in mind when you first proposed your options. It keeps a really smooth flow between spaces and removes any unnecessary entry points. It is a private master space it should only be accessed through the main bedroom.

  • The last plan is awesome ❤ but I don’t think you need to use part of the closet to make room for the toilet. Keep both doors and I agree with Anna, keep the view and the flow of the room and the light throw the spaces. I’m sure whatever plan you pick it’s going to be another wonderful project. 🥰😍😘 ohhh and the paneling of course. ❤

  • What was most striking with those layouts was the flow for the two side doors & the shower position towards the back half. Very exciting planning.

  • I would close off the door to the hall. This is your bathroom, not for one anyone who is on that floor. This will make it your personal space where you can try to hide away! Love what y'all are doing! Keep up the good work!

  • I agree with Anna- definitely keep the two doors and close off the hallway door. Ultimately, having all three rooms internally connected is what will make it feel like a private suite.

  • Keep the bedroom and dressing room doors. You deserve a private space of your own! Or, if it's a rental room, that person will want a private bath!

  • Une participation d’architectes vraiment intéressante et enthousiasmante. Les portes protègent du froid et du bruit, des regards, … des portes qui coulissent à l’intérieur des murs? Oh, peu importe, c’est bien de les garder.

  • Get rid of the door to the hallway. This is your private, luxurious space where you can retreat after a long day. When the girls are teenagers with friends running around, you will realize how nice it is to have your bedroom, bathroom, dressing room completely private. I loved that last design! Beautiful work. They were all amazing. xx

  • The ensuite renderings from your audience were insightful. The view to the outside from the dressing room, through the bathroom, and into the bedroom was genius. The feeling was expansive, allowing me to take deep breaths. I would want this for myself.

  • I really liked the plan with the tub under the window and the two vanities, it somehow felt more bespoke and like it fits a chateu more than the double vanity opposite the tub

  • I vote to keep the open flow with the two doors and also let the toilet be open, not enclosed, then you have more choice and room… you can always make a little privacy if needed with some clever artistic plant and sculpture like hangings. I was once in a bathroom where the whole room was a wonderful greenhouse with gorgeous healthy plants and each fixture like the bath, shower, toilet, sinks, felt so private and yet so open. It was awesome and if I ever could, I would have such a bathroom which doubled as a plant room! That’s where the moisture is best and wanted.
